Exclusive: Clive Myrie, one of the BBC’s most senior news anchors, has been criticized after making thousands of pounds delivering speeches to an investment company linked to Israeli arms suppliers.
Myrie is a household name in the UK and will be the face of the BBC’s election night coverage next month after being elevated into a more prominent role following the resignation of Huw Edwards in April.
The presenter supplements his £290,000 BBC salary with external speaking engagements and he was paid up to £10,000 by Quilter Cheviot, one of the UK’s largest asset managers, to present at a series of adviser roadshow events earlier this year. The events came after Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, sparking months of retaliatory assaults.

The founder of a U.K. charity, to which Hugh Grant is famously a major donor after contributing around 75,000 pounds, has become the subject of an extensive BBC exposé for faking viral stories of kindness to make money.
On Thursday, the BBC released a documentary, Britain’s Hero Plumber Exposed, with an accompanying report accusing Depher founder James Anderson of lying in X posts, using photos of non-consenting beneficiaries and spending company cash on a house and a car.
Anderson has accrued a huge online following in recent years for his social media posts detailing the desperate pleas for help his charity has answered — prompting two million pounds in donations, according to BBC analysis of company accounts and even receiving letters of thanks from the late Queen Elizabeth II and the now-King Charles.

Exclusive: The BBC has quietly cut by two-thirds the length of news bulletins on Greg James’ Radio 1 breakfast show, one of the UK broadcaster’s most important ways of reaching young people.
Newsbeat updates on Breakfast with Greg James have been slashed from three minutes to just one minute this week, with the BBC declining to provide a reason for the change.
BBC insiders are concerned about peak-listening news bulletins being butchered, with one person telling Deadline that they “can’t understand how it can be defended.”
There is suspicion that the change has been made in a naked attempt to keep hold of listeners in the week Capital launched a revamped breakfast show with former Radio 1 DJ Jordan North.
The BBC declined to comment on whether shorter bulletins are a tactical short-term switch or a more strategic permanent change. “Not a great look either way,” said an insider.

Jessie Cave has shared her thoughts after Harry Potter co-star Miriam Margolyes divided opinions after saying adult fans of the Jk Rowling book saga-based films worried her.
Cave appeared at Dream it Con and was asked about Margolyes’ comments about fans, who are now adults, needing to outgrow the franchise.
“It’s such a shame that that happened,” she said. “You know how she is — she’s just a bit funny. And I think she didn’t mean for it to be taken like that, I hope.
She then added, “I really don’t like that she said that.”
Cave played the role of Lavender Brown in three films, starting with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in 2009 and followed by the last two films, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Margolyes caused uproar among Harry Potter fans when she appeared on a New Zealand show dissing adult fans of the fantasy saga.

The “asymmetric” nature of the Israel-Hamas War has made it a difficult story to cover impartially, one of the most senior BBC News execs has said.
Jonathan Munro said “striking a balance” can be difficult for the BBC’s news teams when they are not allowed on the ground in Gaza.
The BBC’s coverage of the conflict has been intensely scrutinized since Hamas’ October 7 attack and news items are regularly flagged in its regular complaints assessments – the most recent being coverage of the death of a child in Gaza, which said viewers felt she should have been described as “murdered” not “found dead.”
“It is a very asymmetric conflict,” Munro told the Communications & Digital Committee’s inquiry into the future of news. “We are not on the ground in Gaza – we can’t be – and so it is a difficult story to strike a balance. Balance is not necessarily achieved in one program,...

Celebrity chef Nigella Lawson, who three years ago mispronounced “microwave” as “mee-krow-wah-vay” on an episode of her cooking show, has addressed the infamous yet viral incident. The British chef, 63, was explaining the steps on how to make brown butter colcannon when the interesting pronunciation slipped from her mouth.
“I still need a bit of milk, full fat, that I’ve warmed in the mee-krow-wah-vay,” she said in the clip, which quickly caused an uproar on social media.
“I wasn’t quite aware I’d said it because that’s what I call it at home,” Lawson said in an episode of BBC Breakfast, which aired on Christmas, reports people.com.
At the time, people were debating if Lawson really pronounces “microwave” that way, so the chef clarified that she does but “not because I think that’s how it’s actually pronounced.”

It’s been nearly a year since Andy Taylor revealed that he has been fighting stage IV metastatic prostate cancer, and now, the Duran Duran guitarist is back with a positive update: thanks to a new “nuclear medicine,” he feels his life has been extended for five years.
The update came when Taylor appeared on BBC Breakfast on Friday, August 11th. Speaking with the show’s hosts, the 62-year-old explained that he was contacted by scientists after he went public with his cancer diagnosis (via a letter read at Duran Duran’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction). Rita Ora and Taika Waititi are celebrating their first wedding anniversary in a sweet way — by finally spilling the details of their intimate ceremony!
Opening up about their special day to Vouge, the couple admits that they’ve been enjoying all the misinformation that has spread like wildfire about their nuptials across the internet. After sparking romance rumours in April of 2021, when Ora shared a pic of herself hugging the director, the 32-year-old singer and 47-year-old filmmaker generally played their cards close to their chest when it came to sharing their relationship.
They made their red carpet debut in August 2021 at the premiere of “Suicide Squad”, in which Waititi starred in, before engagement rumours began swirling in June 2022, after they’d been together for more than a year. So it’s no surprise that fans have been speculating about how the couple formally tied the knot.

Warning: This contains spoilers for Not Going Out
Back in 2015, during a BBC Breakfast interview about series seven of Not Going Out, presenter Bill Turnbull asked Lee Mack: “Did you ever imagine when you first got that pilot that you’d get seven series?”
“I didn’t think we’d even get a series,” Mack answers incredulously, explaining that even going from script to a pilot episode felt like “the biggest hurdle”.
And yet, eight years later (17 since the show began in 2006), Not Going Out has now almost doubled its series from seven to 13, still regularly pulling in audiences of over four million, with the newest series arriving on BBC One on Friday 23rd June at 9pm. As ever, the show will focus on Lee Mack as a fictionalised version of himself, alongside his landlady-turned-wife and sparring partner Lucy, and their eventful and often farcical life together.

BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty has revealed she has the debilitating womb condition adenomyosis.
Speaking on her BBC Radio 5 Live show this morning, Munchetty said she is in “constant, nagging pain” due to the condition and often can’t move, turn over or sit up. One particularly bad episode over the weekend led her husband to call an ambulance, she said.
“I screamed non-stop for 45 minutes,” Munchetty added. “Right now as I sit here talking to you: I am in pain. Constant, nagging pain.”
“It’s in my uterus and around my pelvis,” Munchetty went on to say, having invited others onto her show to discuss the condition. “Sometimes it runs down my thighs. And I’ll have some level of pain for the entire show and for the rest of the day until I go to sleep.”
Around one-in-10 women are thought to have adenomyosis, according to the BBC.

In the past few years, the Grammy for Best Alternative Album has been a highly contested award. With recent nominees and winners including critically beloved masterpieces like Fiona Apple’s “Fetch the Bolt Cutters,” Phoebe Bridgers’s “Punisher,” Wet Leg’s self-titled album, and Japanese Breakfast’s “Jubilee,” it’s no wonder that the caliber of the nominees is expected to be pretty high, especially since alternative music tends to enjoy better critical reception than most genres these days. This year the race already seems to be quite competitive, with still a few months left until the September 15 eligibility deadline.

A British radio and TV presenter has expressed the fear that his career will be rendered obsolete with the rise of ChatGPT, and the prospect of A.I. robots who will become better, funnier, cleverer, and at the fraction of the price of human beings on screen.
Greg James has been presenting the BBC’s Radio 1 youth-targeted Breakfast Show since 2018, and has recently made the move into TV, hosting a new reality show on Channel 4, Rise and Fall.
Striking a similar tone to a prescient interview David Bowie gave in 2000, giving advance notice of the good and the bad potential of the internet, something his interviewer seemingly scoffed at – and which is still often re-broadcast – James told the British press:
“I’ve got to be better than an A.I. That’s my challenge. It’s quite scary, how quickly things are moving but we can work with technology.

Dove Cameron first rose to fame for her work playing the title roles on the Disney Channel’s “Liv and Maddie” followed by her starring role in the “Descendants” franchise.
Now 27, she returns for the second season of “Schmigadoon!” as Jenny Banks, a character based on Sally Bowles from “Cabaret.” The sophomore season of the Apple series, titled “Schmicago!,” is inspired by Broadway musicals of the 1960 and ‘70s.
“It was transformative, an education awakening for so many of us,” Cameron says of the legacy of “Cabaret” on this week’s episode of the “Just for Variety” podcast. “Especially, I’m sure you can relate, but growing up as a queer person and seeing queer representation in an environment that was also so sexually liberated — those two things coupled together were really healing and necessary to see growing up for me to become the person that I am. Rina Sawayama makes her acting debut in the brand-new John Wick: Chapter 4, and it sure would’ve been a waste if she hadn’t contributed to the soundtrack as well. Ahead of the film’s theatrical premiere this Friday, March 24th, the Japanese-British pop experimentalist has shared the anthem “Eye for an Eye.”
“Eye for an Eye” was produced and co-written by Tyler Bates, who’s also composed the futuristic-sounding scores for all four John Wick films. It begins with a funky, heavy-hitting synth riff that definitely feels a little reminiscent of Nine Inch Nails’ “Closer,” and the ’90s industrial vibes only get stronger from there as the instrumentals layer more and more, culminating in a pretty explosive chorus.
Lyrically, Sawayama’s narrator is on the prowl for revenge: “An eye for an eye, a life for a life/ I’ll see you in hell on the other side,...

Gethin Jones wept on BBC One’s Morning Live today (17 March) as he neared the end of a 24-hour dancing challenge for Red Nose Day.

At the end of the 24 hours, it was revealed on the show that Jones had raised more than £900,000.
At one point during the challenge, he was shown crying with joy at how much he had raised.
Over on BBC Breakfast, clips were shown of Jones dancing throughout the morning, with the presenter so exhausted he was unable to speak. He managed to give a thumbs up to camera at one point, while bobbing up and down on the spot.
Countryfile star Helen Skelton briefly danced next to him, telling viewers he was a “broken” man.

Mike Rutherford has updated fans on Phil Collins’s health after the legendary drummer retired from playing with Genesis.

Greg James To Host Channel 4 Reality Series ‘Rise And Fall’ From ‘The Traitors’ Maker Studio Lambert
BBC Radio 1 presenter Greg James is to host Channel 4 reality series Rise and Fall from The Traitors maker Studio Lambert.
James hosts BBC Radio 1 Breakfast, one of the most-listened-to UK radio shows, and Rise and Fall represents one of his few TV hosting gigs.
He will oversee the action on Channel 4’s latest big entertainment bet, in which 16 ordinary British people from all walks of life begin the game as equals but soon find themselves either in a position of power as a Ruler or as part of the powerless as a Grafter. While the Rulers live in an opulent penthouse, the Grafters must survive in basic conditions in the basement. And much like life, those in power will be responsible for making decisions that affect those who have none.

Dan Walker has branded Piers Morgan “bitter” and a “numptie” after the TalkTV presenter accused him of “milking” his recent bike crash.

He then proceeded to make a dig at Morgan – his long-standing rival – over his 2021 departure from Good Morning Britain.

Dame Joan Collins has issued a complain to Sadiq Khan after being almost knocked down by a cyclist.
The Dynasty actor, 89, was getting out of a taxi in Covent Garden when she says she was “crashed into” by a “masked cyclist with no lights and weaving on the pavement”.
The incident prompted her to post an Instagram message to Mayor of London to “do something” about cyclists who ‘consider themselves above the law”.
“Getting out of a #blackcab on the way to @rules_restaurant, we discovered #maidenlane was closed to all traffic,” she wrote on Thursday (23 February).
“However, that didn’t stop a masked #cyclist with no lights and weaving on the pavement from crashing into me, almost knocking me over. How much longer must we live with closed roads and cyclists who consider themselves above the law?
She continued: “Why don’t you do something @mayorofldn @sadiq before this...

Body language expert Darren Stanton says Kate usually wears light colors when she wants to blend in with everyone else. According Stanton, she wore white to the BAFTAs so she wouldn’t draw too much attention away from the celebrities.
“Kate wore a flowing white dress, a color she chooses when she wants to blend,” says Stanton on behalf of Betfair. “She clearly did not want to be the center of attention, as opposed to when she wears striking reds or blues.

Dan Walker was knocked unconscious for 20 minutes when he was involved in a bike crash earlier this week.
The former BBC Breakfast host was struck while cycling on Monday (20 February), which left him with a bloodied face and needing treatment in hospital.
On Wednesday, Walker said that he had no recollection of the accident, as he had been “out cold” for 20 minutes.

“I can’t believe I haven’t broken anything or that it is so much worse. I came round on the tarmac with paramedics and police standing over me. I’m very thankful to still be here and just have a beast of a headache.”

BBC Breakfast host Sally Nugent “banned” her co-host Jon Kay from a discussion on the latest episode.
On Monday (6 February), Nugent said she was unable to “have a conversation” with Kay as she was concerned that he might share some Happy Valley spoilers.
The BBC drama’s latest run drew to an end on Sunday (5 February), with an acclaimed finale that brought the entire series to a close.
On BBC Breakfast, Carol Kirkwood said she was planning to swiftly leave the studio after delivering her weather update as she didn’t want to hear the hosts’ Happy Valley discussion.
However, Nugent, when Kirkwood told her she hadn’t yet seen the finale, replied: “Carol, neither have I! I haven’t seen the ending. So do not worry, we are safe! I give you my word.”
However, Kay replied: “I’ve watched it and I can’t speak to anybody about it.

Dove Cameron looked amazing while wearing an all-black outfit.
The Boyfriend singer recently switched her blonde hair to a dark brown, but the change also came about in her music and style.
Now embracing this new “dark” era, Cameron attended the Peter Do Spring 2023 collection at New York Fashion Week.
She wore a skimpy black silk bra with a suit jacket on top that seemed to have an attached trail of black sheer fabric for a more dramatic look.
Her pants were cut in a very chic and loose way, adorned with a silver belt.
Cameron didn’t accessorize much, she only carried a small shoulder bag and cat eye sunglasses.

Channel 5 has been praised for being the only UK public service broadcaster not to show any Queen-related coverage on Monday 19 September, the day of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.
While BBC One, BBC Two and ITV all aired the funeral live and Channel 4 showed a documentary on the Queen, Channel 5 chose to air animated children’s film The Emoji Movie.
The choice went down well with some viewers. One tweeted that they “don’t understand the criticism of Channel 5 for showing The Emoji Movie during the queen’s funeral”, adding: “What are kids of families who don’t have paid TV/streaming supposed to do otherwise, sit and watch people in suits look overly sad for six hours?”
“Channel 5 deserve a lot of respect for this,” another posted. “Airing an entire day’s worth of kid and family-friendly content to give us a break from wall-to-wall bleakness is a great move.

One of the year’s biggest breakouts in music has been Dove Cameron. While she was a known figure on the Disney Channel in the mid-to-late 2010s, Cameron’s musical breakout truly came this year, with the success of her viral hit “Boyfriend.” The song managed to peak in the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 and reached number-two on the Mainstream Top 40 airplay chart, a very impressive feat for the newcomer. Cameron’s year got even better when she won the MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist, besting big names like Maneskin and Latto. Is she headed for the same success at the Grammys?

Dove’s biggest advantage in the Grammy race is her general musical profile. Not only is she a pop artist, which historically is a big advantage in the general field categories, but her sound is a more serious brand of pop.
