The shortened version, released in 1947, appears to have additional material, as there is reference to the Normandy beaches in the narration and the actuality footage.
The film was originally released in 1943 and then re-released, in a shorter version, in 1947. In August 2017, the short version gained tremendous attention due to the "Unite the Right" torchlight rally in Charlottesville, VA, that resulted in the death of an anti-fascist protester.
In 2024 a 3 minute 20 second version was released on YouTube and other social media by Now This, a part of Now Media Network.
