Skinheads, hit men, cops, criminals, cops-posing-as-criminals, princes, junkies, executioners, politicians, supervillains, an 18th-century fop, a 19th-century impressionist painter and a 21st-century psychotic chimp – you name it, and there's an extremely good chance that Tim Roth has played it. The 56-year-old British actor has the sort of varied, overstuffed resumé that suggests a reserved spot in the steadily-working-character-actor canon, and has not one but two projects hitting TV screens at the moment: Tin Star, an Amazon thriller that about an expat cop living in Canada that starts as a quirky fish-out-of-water...

On Sept. 27, 1992, The Ben Stiller Show premiered on Fox, showcasing the titular star’s now well-known talent for emulating celebrities and crafting original characters. The sketch comedy series was abruptly canceled before its first season finished airing, but almost a year after it debuted, the show won an Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Variety or Music Program.
“We had no idea,” Stiller told Et backstage at the 45th Primetime Emmy Awards. Apparently, none of the show’s writers had attended the ceremony with the notion they might beat out comedy institutions such as Saturday Night Live and Late Night with David Letterman. At some point leading up to the night, Stiller thought maybe he should put together a few words, just in case. “And then at the last minute, I thought, You know, I'm not gonna prepare a speech, because I'll feel like such a jerk when I don't win.”

"Ecstatic ritual, danger and the absolute beauty of fireworks." Oscilloscope Labs has debuted an official trailer for a documentary titled Brimstone & Glory, profiling the glorious National Pyrotechnic Festival in Tultepec, Mexico. This 10-day festival of fireworks and pyrotechnics is unlike anything else, considering more than three quarters of Tultepec's residents work in pyrotechnics. The doc features a score by Beasts of the Southern Wild's Dan Romer & Benh Zeitlin, which actually makes me even more excited to see this (I love the unique sound of their music it always makes my heart race). This seems like one of the most spectacular, stunning docs about fireworks ever made. "For the people of Tultepec, the National Pyrotechnic Festival is explosive celebration, unrestrained delight and real peril." This looks totally amazing. Fire it up. ABC has kicked off the pickups of new series with nods to the hottest pilots from its sibling ABC Studios: comedy The Mayor, executive produced by Daveed Diggs and starring Lea Michele; and dramas For the People from Shondaland, The Crossing starring Steve Zahn, and The Gospel Of Kevin toplined by Jason Ritter whose appeal in the role was a major driving force behind the renewal. I hear most if not all of the other ABC Studios pilots are dead but will update on their…...

ABC has picked up four new series from its sister ABC Studios, including a new drama from Shonda Rhimes’ company, a drama about saving the world (starring Jason Ritter), a series about refugees… from America, and comedy that sounds like it might take a few cues from the recently installed White House inhabitant.
In “The Mayor,” Brandon Micheal Hall plays an aspiring young rapper, Courtney Rose, who decides – as a publicity stunt – to run for mayor. He did it solely to generate buzz and become rich and famous. Instead, he is actually elected mayor, an outcome he never predicted. Now he must lean on his mother (Yvette Nicole Brown) and friends, including Valentina (Lea Michele) to become the mayor he didn’t think he wanted to be.
Sound a bit Trumpy?
The series also stars Bernard David Jones and Marcel Spears. Executive producers include Daveed Diggs (Broadway’s “Hamilton”), writer Jeremy Bronson (“Speechless,...

Premiering in the Directors’ Fortnight section at the Cannes Film Festival last year, Claude Barras‘ feature-length debut animation My Life as a Zucchini (aka My Life as a Courgette) is a deeply felt tale of the healing process through the eyes of an orphan. Ahead of its U.S. release this weekend, where it will also compete as a Best Animated Feature Film nominee at the Academy Awards, I had the opportunity to speak with Barras about crafting the animation.
We discussed his collaboration with Céline Sciamma (Girlhood) on the script, taking the perspective of a child, capturing taboo subjects, a crisis in production, his biggest animation influences, his Oscar nomination, and where he sees the future of his craft heading. Check out the full conversation below.

Less than 24 hours after being named a headliner of Donald Trump's inauguration concert, Jennifer Holliday has canceled her performance.
The 56-year-old Tony-winning actress announced that she would no longer be performing at the welcome concert ahead of Trump's inauguration, after she realized the negative effect it had on her Lgbt fans. Holliday was slated to perform alongside Lee Greenwood, Toby Keith and 3 Doors Down at the Lincoln Memorial on Jan. 19 for what is being called the "Make America Great Again! Welcome Celebration."

Among the massive amounts of Easter Eggs that were packed into Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, many eagle-eyed fans noticed several connections to Star Wars: Rebels, the animated series currently airing on Disney Xd. Along with the show's main spacecraft, the Ghost, being glimpsed at several moments, the show's grumpy C1 droid unit, Chopper, was also spotted at the Rebel base on Yavin 4. Rebels executive producer Dave Filoni confirmed with Entertainment Weekly that he worked in tandem with Rogue One producers to include these small things, though not at the expense of the film. "None of the things we put in really jump out at you," said Filoni. "If you don’t watch Rebels, there’s never a moment where you’re staring at the [movie] screen going, 'Why was that important?' For the people who do know, they get that added level of immersion." One other tidbit...

We all know Justin Bieber loves his fans, but in recent years, relations with the Beliebers has been a little ⦠complicated.
At a recent Purpose World Tour stop in Birmingham, England, he told his arena of screaming fans to tone it down a little bit.

Having now played the second episode of the new Telltale Batman game, it can’t be easy for the writers, in fact it must be worrying. One of the biggest games the company has worked on, it is also one of the most protected of DC characters. With Batman: The Telltale Series Episode 2 – Children of Arkham, Telltale is taking Bruce Wayne in an interesting direction, but is it the right one?
Continuing from the first episode Bruce is having to come to terms with what he has learnt about his parents. Changing everything they have meant for him, and even making him question Alfred’s allegiance and actions, what does it mean for the man behind the bat?
Now that we’ve got the story set for Telltale’s take on Batman, episode two should be where everything is put into action. We know who Harvey Dent is and what he will be,...

Earlier this month, we reported that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story composer Alexandre Desplat had dropped out of the film after reshoots caused him to have a scheduling conflict. Rogue One hired Michael Giacchino to replace him, and now The Hollywood Reporter says that Desplat has moved on to Luc Besson’s Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets—because you can take the man out of the space movie, but you can’t take the space movie out of the man. Besson made the announcement himself on Instagram, explaining that Desplat had to “leave the ‘Black Star’” but found “a new home” in Valerian. (For the people out there who aren’t Francophiles, “Black Star” is how “Death Star” is translated in the French version of Star Wars.)

Stressed and overwhelmed from a seemingly never-ending schedule of work, I began Bound with exactly the wrong attitude. At the moment when I clicked on the icon, it was just an obligation. Another box to check. Another review to be done by a deadline. Another item on the to-do list standing between me and the relaxation I’d been craving for weeks.
Then the game started, and I immediately remembered why I was so excited to play it in the first place. Bound is a visually stunning work of art, a journey through the abstract that fills every corner of the screen with mesmerizing shapes and colors. And outside of the framing device that makes up just a few minutes of play time, it also attempts to serve as an interesting metaphor for the healing process.
Enjoying the beautiful tranquility of the visuals and music gradually transformed my stress into quiet contemplation and gratitude.
