Before we knew Justin Vernon as the force behind Bon Iver, he fronted DeYarmond Edison, a band formed along with his childhood friends Joe Westerlund, Brad Cook, and Phil Cook. Those early recordings by the future indie rock heroes are now getting a proper release with Epoch, a comprehensive box set out August 18th on Jagjaguwar. You can hear a preview now with the single “As Long As I Can Go” b/w “Feel the Light,” along with a remastered version of their 2005 track “Bones.”
Epoch comprises 83 recordings — many of which are being heard outside the band for the very first time — across five LPs and four CDs, dating all the way back to 1998. Along with the music comes a 60,000-word biography from journalist/executive producer/self-described biggest fan Grayson Haver Currin, the collection captures DeYarmond Edison’s evolution from high school rockers who performed as Mount Vernon to their...

On Gilmore Girls, Tricia O’Kelley played Nicole Leahy, Luke (Scott Patterson)’s season 3 love interest. Obviously, Luke and Nicole were not meant to be. Luke and Lorelai (Lauren Graham) were the long term romance of the show. But, while it lasted, Nicole had red hair. O’Kelley reveals this was entirely due to a show she was on prior to Gilmore Girls that got canceled.

O’Kelley was a guest on Patterson’s I Am All In podcast on July 13. They reminisced about their Gilmore Girls scenes. She explained how Nicole’s red hair came from her previous show, That Was Then. It lasted another year while she was on Gilmore Girls.
The canceled show that made Tricia O’Kelley dye her hair red
That Was Then was one of two time travel shows to premiere in the 2002 season. Neither that nor Do Over lasted an entire season.

Call it a case of bad things happening to a good actor. Again and again. With the news this week that NBC had canceled Animal Practice — yet still allowing audiences to see it in its death throes until replacing it with Whitney in November — it marks another TV disappointment for actor Tyler Labine. Try as he might this affable bloke just can’t seem to catch a break when it comes to finding a steady gig on TV. Here’s a list of his trail of boob-tube carnage: Animal Practice Mad Love Sons of Tucson Reaper Invasion That Was Then He [...]...

This doesn’t hold a lot of promise. Variety reports that Andy Fickman has been hired to direct Over My Dead Body, a U.S. remake of the 1995 German comedy Nur über meine Leiche. The movie follows a womanizer who ends up in Hell after dying and strikes a deal with the Devil himself: if he can fix the broken hearts of three women whom he wronged while he was alive in three days, he will be allowed a second chance at life. TV writers Jeremy Miller and Dan Cohn (HBO’s Entourage, the ABC show That Was Then) have also been hired to pen the screenplay (the 1995 original was written by Rainer Matsutani and Sebastian Niemann).
While Over My Dead Body doesn’t have the worst (or most original) premise in the world, Flickman’s resume is insanely spotty (The Game Plan, She’s the Man, You Again, Race to Witch Mountain...

McG’s Wonderland Sound and Vision has continued it's streak of prolific TV development. Deadline reports that the company has sold three projects to ABC, NBC, Fox and the CW, and also has several comedy and reality pitches in the works. McG is also set to direct his first pilot since 2007's Chuck. The company has 3 series on the air this coming season, with Chuck, Supernatural and Nikita. The company is based at Warner Bros. TV, after renewing it's deal with the studio through 2013.
Here is what McG had to say about the deal and his parnter Peter Johnson:
“Warner Bros. bet on us 10 years ago and has helped us build an amazing business. Peter doesn’t chase the same writers as everyone else: we look for people on the verge, and for people who can tap into the youthful vibe of our company as they approach storytelling for broadcast TV.

The O.C. writer-producer Jennifer Philbin has inked an overall deal with NBC Universal TV Studio.
Under the two-year pact, Philbin will develop new projects for the studio and join existing NBC Uni TV series on the drama and the comedy side.
Philbin, known as JJ Philbin, has been a hot commodity this season because of her diverse background in sketch comedy (NBC's Saturday Night Live, Fox's Mad TV), comedic drama (Dead Like Me), drama (ABC's That Was Then) and teen soap (The O.C.).
"JJ is brilliant and hilarious, and she writes across all genres," said Laura Lancaster, senior vp drama at NBC Uni TV.
Added the studio's senior vp comedy Shelley McCrory, "As half-hour comedies open up and become more sophisticated, JJ is someone we are extremely lucky to be in business with."
The deal marks Philbin's first crack at development, and she said she feels "very lucky" to be doing that with NBC Uni TV.
"They've developed some of the most exciting shows we've seen recently in comedy and drama," Philbin said. "They take risks, and most importantly, they tend to stick by them."
Philbin, the daughter of Regis Philbin, spent the past 3 1/2 years on O.C., rising through the ranks to supervising producer.

UPN has given a last-minute pilot presentation order to an untitled comedy from former Late Night With Conan O'Brien writer Andrew Secunda. Charisma Carpenter and Tyler Labine topline the project, from Paramount Network TV, the Littlefield Co. and Nervous Properties. The show, written by Secunda, centers on an uptight, career-minded woman (Carpenter) and her fun-loving brother (Labine). Adam Chase and Warren Littlefield are exec producing, with Secunda serving as co-exec producer. Veteran helmer James Widdoes is on board to direct. Meanwhile, another UPN comedy pilot presentation, I Do, I Did, Now What? is not going forward. Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel alumna Carpenter is repped by the Gersh Agency and manager John Carrabino. Labine, whose series credits include That Was Then, Dead Last and Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, is repped by UTA and Characters Talent Agency in Vancouver. In other pilot casting news, Tobin Bell (In the Line of Fire) has joined NBC's drama pilot Revelations, while Johnny Sneed (NBC's American Dreams) has been added to ABC's comedy Earthquake. Bell is repped by Saffron Management and attorney Bill Jacobson.

Writer-producer Jeff Kline has inked a new two-year development deal with Touchstone TV and a separate pact with Walt Disney Television Animation. Has ABC finally turned the corner? Three weeks into the new season, the Walt Disney Co.-owned network has hardly repaired all the damage from the implosion of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and the resulting double-digit declines last season. Indeed, NBC won the crucial 18-49 demo and CBS took the prize for total viewers for the week ending Oct. 13, according to figures from Nielsen Media Research. ABC was actually off 3% in 18-49, compared with the same period last year. Still, there's no denying that the alphabet net has been spelling comeback lately. Virtually shut out of the top 20 during last year's doldrums, ABC now has several contenders there. Perhaps most notably, the mating call of The Bachelor drowned out NBC's The West Wing by 3 share points last week. The family sitcom 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter, meanwhile, is building again after the typical post-premiere drop-off; last week's fourth episode was up 9% from the third. Even The Practice, which wobbled last season, looks like a solid winner in its Sunday slot. Of course, the net still has some major holes, having axed the low-rated new dramas Push, Nevada and That Was Then. Thursday nights in particular are likely to remain problematic for some time. But ABC now stands a good chance of remaining flat in the November sweep, which few thought likely even a few weeks ago.
