This article contains major spoilers for "The Hunger Games: the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes."
Welcome to the 10th annual Hunger Games! The methods are cruder (and crueler), the batch of unwilling participants are much less marketable, and the masses haven't been successfully distracted by bread and circuses just yet. When "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" begins only a decade after the First Rebellion tore Panem apart, over 60 years before the events of the first "The Hunger Games," we find the country in a very different place than last we saw in the original movies. Although the government bears all the hallmarks of a dystopian, post-apocalyptic hellhole, power hasn't yet been consolidated under the office of a single figurehead -- namely, one Coriolanus Snow (Tom Blyth), future President of Panem.
Instead, the Francis Lawrence-directed prequel tells a much less refined story about an authoritarian regime...

In the offices of Dunder Mifflin (Scranton branch), salesmen, accountants and even Hr got together to decide once and for all: Is Hilary Swank hot or not? They’re referring to her looks, but one could just as easily be talking about her career. At what point was Hilary Swank hot in her career? In 2008, when the episode aired: Yeah. In the years between her Oscars? Not exactly. Now? No. So, let’s take a look and find out…Wtf Happened to…Hilary Swank?
But to truly understand what the fuck happened to Hilary Swank, we go back to the beginning. And the beginning began when she was born on July 30th, 1974, in Lincoln, Nebraska. As a youth, Swank bounced around a bit, going from Nebraska to Washington to California, developing a love for both gymnastics (Junior Olympian; state finalist) and acting (appearing in The Jungle Book at 9 as Mowgli...

The odds were ever in the favor of the crowd at CinemaCon, which was treated to the first trailer for “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.” The upcoming prequel film delves into the history of how the games as we’ve come to know them got their start. The first look was a fitting conclusion to a long week in Vegas.
It’s been a busy week at CinemaCon, with every major studio attempting to generate hype for its upcoming slate of blockbusters. Highlights so far include a buzzy new trailer for “Oppenheimer,” which debuted alongside new footage from “Barbie,” “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” and “Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning — Part I.”
But in Lionsgate’s presentation on Thursday afternoon, audiences finally understood just how Lionsgate intends to revitalize one of their flagship franchises. The trailer prominently features its adult cast of Viola Davis dressed in the wildest Panem garb,...

Just because a movie is a romance doesn’t mean it was all love on set, as Gerard Butler has now detailed that he “almost killed” co-star Hilary Swank in an on-set freak accident that landed her in the hospital.
On an episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Gerard Butler recalled the event in which he bloodied his on-screen wife, played by Hilary Swank. “You know the scene where I’m dancing and I [am wearing] suspenders? I shot that scene for a day and a half, and I had to dance like an idiot in the suspenders…At one point, the clip, which was a crocodile clip, got stuck in the television as I’m crawling towards her, and she’s right in front of me, laughing hysterically.” Goofy enough until Butler revealed what came next. “I’m crawling towards the bed, it gets stuck, it releases, flies over my head,...

This new, jump-scary adaptation of Henry James’s The Turn of the Screw is a contrived and spiritless disappointment
Henry James’s classic 1898 ghost story The Turn of the Screw is splodged with unsubtlety in this jump-scary new screen version, wasting a lot of acting talent. It is a bag of very familiar horror tricks from the screenwriting brothers Chad and Carey Hayes, who scripted so-so chillers such as The Reaping (2007) and The Conjuring (2013), and it’s directed by Floria Sigismondi.
The Hayeses top off their by-the-numbers movie with a bizarre trick ending that explains their take on James’s title – sort of – and messes with the timeline in a way that’s certainly unexpected, yet exasperatingly contrived and involves suddenly and unsatisfyingly promoting a minor character. This finale may also be there to set up a pointless new franchise: The Turning 2, 3 etc.

Netflix post-apocalyptic film, I Am Mother, stars Hilary Swank, Clara Rugaard and a creepy maternal robot voiced by Rose Byrne.
A while ago, we first heard that Oscar winner Hilary Swank was teaming up with first time director Grant Sputore for a new sci-fi/horror film called I Am Mother. We were curious, because Swank's previous forays into the horror genre weren't exactly...good, for the most part. The Gift was solid enough with Sam Raimi at the helm, and The Reaping and The Resident both initially looked promising, but didn't ultimately make the grade, so it was interesting to us that the actress had chosen to dip her toe back into the scream queen water some years later, especially with an unproven director at the helm. Yet, when the film became bound for Netflix direct distribution, the logic became a bit clearer.

Chad and Carey Hayes, the writers of The Conjuring, are going to be taking on the Die Hard series as it’s being stated that the movie is going ahead and will begin eventually. Having a couple of people that written for straight to TV action flicks seems like it would be questionable but it could be a workable deal if they keep in mind that they’re now writing for a less emotional and more action-packed franchise. Their credentials hold up despite the fact that they’ve worked on a few movies that weren’t exactly universally loved such as The Reaping and

The next Die Hard sequel that has been in development since 2015 is moving forward with two new screenwriters. The studio has hired Chad and Carey Hayes to rewrite the script for Die Hard 6. They have written the scripts for both of The Conjuring films that were directed by James Wan.
Len Wiseman (Live Free or Die Hard) is still set to produce and direct the sequel, which is said to be both a prequel and a sequel. The film will be set in 1979, when McClane was fighting crime as a New York City cop. It will show how he "became a die hard kind of guy." Bruce Willis will reprise his role in the film, but in the later part of the story which will take place in the present. The movie is expected to jump back and forth between the past and the present.

Most female characters in film succumb to the Devil. They are used as vessels or conduits for the Anti-Christ, lesser demons or the grandiose ideas of an occult. More often than not- they are chased, seduced or beaten into submission by satanic happenings. You might remember The Entity from when it first haunted the big screen in 1983, telling the supposedly true life tale of Doris Bither, a woman who claimed she was sexually abused by a supernatural presence. It's now been announced that The Entity is being reimagined in a remake produced by James Wan and Roy Lee, with two notable horror movie scribes set to write the script.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Entity remake will be penned by Chad and Carey Hayes, the brothers behind the respective screenplays of The Conjuring (and its upcoming sequel), 2005's House of Wax, and The Reaping. No director is attached to the project at this time.
In 1983's The Entity, directed by Sidney J. Furie, "Barbara Hershey played Moran while Ron Silver played a doctor who believes the woman is actually abusing herself and experiencing delusions brought about by a troubled past. Also figuring...

Though his spectacular work behind the camera on Furious 7 is sure to send countless blockbuster offers across his desk, James Wan is still keeping true to his bloodcurdling origins. The Insidious helmer will produce a remake of 1980s horror pic The Entity with the same creative team behind his 2013 horror hit The Conjuring.
Chad and Carey Hayes, who scripted The Conjuring and are also set to reteam with Wan in the same capacity when he directs next year’s The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist, will write the screenplay, working from novelist Frank De Felitta’s original script. Think that winning an Academy Award provides an actor with a surefire path to unlimited great roles? Think again. Oscars history is filled with stars who've taken home a gold statue only to see all their hard work undone in seconds with a stinker of a follow-up movie.
Digital Spy takes a look at 10 of these instances below...
Halle Berry - Catwoman (2004)
A piercing performance in Monster's Ball won Halle Berry an Oscar in 2002, but a rocky road lied ahead. Most female characters in film succumb to the Devil. They are used as vessels or conduits for the Anti-Christ, lesser demons or the grandiose ideas of an occult. Busy Signals: Stone’s Aptly Named Thriller Phones It In
There is not anything innately offensive about a really decent made-for-tv thriller, especially the type based on those ceaseless examples of books once referred to as dime store pulp fiction, juicy, hard boiled or even illogical. These types of mildly entertaining whodunits aren’t without a certain sense of craftsmanship either. But half their charm is that they’re on television, so they may seem a bit irritating if you had to pay to see them in the theater—and that’s concerning the really decent ones. It’s hard to say why writer/producer Jason Stone chose to adapt The Calling, the first in a series of mystery novels by Michael Redhill, published under the pseudonym of Inger Ash Wolfe. Adapted by screenwriter Scott Abramovitch, who has only written films for television previously, it’s a lukewarm endeavor a...

New Line Cinema has hired "The Conjuring" scribes Chad and Carey Hayes to pen a third and fourth film in its 3D "Journey" franchise.
Starting in 2008 with "Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D," the film scored a sequel in 2012 with "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island" which saw Dwayne Johnson take over for Brendan Fraser as the adult male lead. Johnson is expected to return for both the new sequels.
The Hayes became known for penning numerous films for Dark Castle including "House of Wax," "The Reaping" and "Whiteout" before hitting it big with "The Conjuring". They're returning to pen that film's upcoming sequel, and also wrote Johnson's in production earthquake disaster thriller "San Andreas".
The Hayes will take over for previously attached screenwriters Brian Gunn and Mark Gunn, and are expected to "take the project in a different direction than what had been in development before."

It's a pretty straight forward story focusing on absolute destruction and chaos. Read on! The Conjuring movie may have broken horror genre box-office record - even considering inflation (photo: paranormal investigator Patrick Wilson in The Conjuring) James Wan’s Warner Bros.-distributed horror movie The Conjuring, starring Patrick Wilson (Little Children, Watchmen) and 2009 Best Supporting Actress Oscar nominee Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air), opened with more than twice its reported $20 million production budget at 2,903 North American venues this past weekend, July 19-21, 2013. According to weekend box-office actuals found at Box Office Mojo, The Conjuring took in an outstanding $41.85 million — including an estimated $3.31 million from Thursday evening and midnight screenings. The Conjuring: ‘True story’ horror movie box office beats (much) costlier competition (Photo: Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson in The Conjuring) James Wan’s $20 million-budgeted horror movie The Conjuring, starring Best Supporting Actress Academy Award nominee Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air) and Patrick Wilson, may end up grossing about twice its production cost at the North American box office this weekend, July 19-21, 2013. According to studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo, The Conjuring scored a highly impressive $17.03 million from 2,903 venues on Friday — including $3.31 million from Thursday evening and midnight screenings. That means Wan’s generally well-received effort (see below) may end up boasting the biggest domestic opening ever for an original R-rated horror movie — well, if you pretend inflation doesn’t exist. Now, inflation plays no role among this weekend’s films: The Conjuring has been leaving far behind three other (way costlier) new releases: DreamWorks Animation’s...

The Conjuring box office: Biggest opening weekend ever for an original R-rated horror movie? (Photo: Vera Farmiga in The Conjuring) The Conjuring, James Wan’s low-budget horror movie starring Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, collected an impressive $3.31 million from Thursday midnight screenings (July 18-19, 2013) according to studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo. That site’s Ray Subers is expecting The Conjuring, which has a somewhat surprising 84% approval rating and 7.3/10 average among Rotten Tomatoes‘ top critics, to gross close to $38 million from 2,903 locations by Sunday evening — thus leaving far behind this weekend’s crowded competition, which includes DreamWorks Animation’s Turbo, the Ryan Reynolds / Jeff Bridges actioner R.I.P.D., and the Bruce Willis / Mary-Louise Parker action sequel Red 2. What truly scares usc In my opinion, it's largely the fear of the unknown. It's why when horror movies show us what's behind the curtain our fear begins to subside. A good horror director will use the idea of the unknown to their advantage, increasing the fear factor, while also improving the production's bottom line. In recent history director James Wan (Saw, Insidious) has used the fear of the unknown to his advantage and he does so again with The Conjuring, something of a Paranormal Activity meets The Exorcist, supernatural thriller certain to give even the most seasoned horror fan the chills. Like many horror films before it, The Conjuring makes use of the idea it is based on a true story. In this instance, the story of the Perron family who bought a place in the early '70s in Harrisville, Rhode Island that eventually turned into ten years living among the dead.

The powers-that-be over at New Line are expecting to scare up some decent box office cash this weekend as The Conjuring begins haunting theatres. In fact, they're so confident in the flick (which they should be since it's pretty awesome), they're already thinking franchise.

It’s been a good few weeks since we last had a full-blown horror movie in theatres, so naturally I’m looking forward to James Wan’s The Conjuring that much more.
Wan’s past credits really speak for themselves, boasting the likes of Saw and Insidious, and he returns to the director’s chair for another two horror films this year, kicking things off this month with The Conjuring, before coming back in the autumn/fall with Insidious: Chapter 2.
The former has long been on our radar as something to get excited about, with the film earning an R rating in the Us for simply being ‘too scary’. Whilst I remain sceptical about the true-story nature of the movie, as touted by the latest trailer, the film itself looks awesome, and we’ve got a great new TV spot to prove it.
