In recent years, Netflix has made a lot of changes to its standard operating procedures, and one that is becoming increasingly part of its release plans is breaking up series into blocks. The world’s largest streaming service will release the second half of “Bridgerton” Season 3 in June looking to capitalize on the success of the first four episodes that were released last month. Also coming to the streaming giant this month will be the final season of fantasy drama series “Sweet Tooth,” the Glen Powell-led action comedy “The Hitman” and much more.
Netflix offers three different subscription options, on the low end is the Standard With Ads option for just $6.99 per month. However, if you prefer your streaming without commercial interruptions, you can opt for the Standard plan for $15.49 monthly or the Premium option for $22.99.

A sexy comedy featuring man-of-the-moment Glen Powell posing as an undercover hitman, Jessica Alba kicking ass in an all-action revenge tale, the inimitable David Letterman interviewing a new round of guests, the continuing saga of Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton, the return of a beloved fantasy series and the story of the most iconic franchise in cheerleading are among the standout new additions to Netflix in June.
Returning in June on Netflix is the third season of the fantasy series Sweet Tooth. Based on the beloved comic book series created by Jeff Lemire, the show tells the story of society after it has been decimated by a virus and human-animal hybrids begin to appear. The focus of the show is Gus, a young half-human, half-deer boy who is looking for his mother. Season one of Sweet Tooth debuted in June 2021, with season two arriving last June. Netflix’s list of new releases for June 2024 look suspiciously like last month’s.
That’s because the biggest item on the schedule is Bridgerton season 3 once again. The final four episodes of Bridgerton‘s third season will premiere on June 13. Polin fans everywhere, rejoice! Other TV items of note this month include the third and final season of Sweet Tooth (June 6), Worst Roommate Ever season 2 (June 26), and That ’90s Show Part 2 (June 28).
Bridgerton aside, Netflix’s original movie options this month might be even more impressive than the TV slate. Richard Linklater’s Hitman, which stars Glen Powell as the titular assassin, premieres on June 7. That will be followed by documentary Black Barbie on June 19, the Jessica Alba-starring Trigger Warning on June 21, and romcom A Family Affair on June 28
Here’s everything else coming to Netflix this month. Note that Netflix marks its international offerings with that respective country’s two-letter country code.

A New Year means lots of removals from Netflix and January 1st is looking busy, with over 100 movies set to leave the service already. Below, we’ll be keeping track of all the Netflix departures for the first month of 2024.
First, a few housekeeping notes as to how Netflix removals work before we dive in. Due to licensing agreements, shows and movies added to Netflix aren’t added forever. Instead, they’re essentially rented for a fixed period. All the shows below have their current window on Netflix ending and will likely be bound for a rival streaming service.
We list titles slightly differently from other outlets, with our listings being the actual day of removal. If you want to watch any titles scheduled to expire on January 1st, for example, you’ll need to watch by the end of December 31st.

Marty Krofft, the savvy businessman who partnered with his older brother Sid to amass an entertainment empire fueled by such mind-blowing kids TV shows as The Banana Splits Adventure Hour, H.R. Pufnstuf and Land of the Lost, died Saturday. He was 86.
Eight years younger than Sid, Marty Krofft died Saturday in Los Angeles of kidney failure, his family announced.
“There’s nobody better on this planet,” Sid said of his brother in a 2000 interview for the Archive of American Television website. “I get a dream, and Marty gets it done.”

As befitting its status as one of the world’s biggest companies, every now and then Amazon likes to take a big swing with its Prime Video originals. With its list of new releases for April 2023, the streamer is taking one of its biggest swings yet.
Though it’s not quite as vast or expensive as fellow Prime Video series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Citadel (premiering April 28) is a massive, massive undertaking. Starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, this spy series is described as “an expansive and groundbreaking global event comprising a mothership series and several local language satellite series.” This means that the Russo Brothers-produced project will eventually feature several spinoffs in multiple countries and languages around the world. Neat-o!

Adam Driver has made a name for himself as one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood. However, before becoming a famous actor, Driver served in the Marine Corps for several years. In a recent interview, the Logan Lucky star dispelled a common myth about military service and shared his experiences as a former serviceman.
Adam Driver joined the military after September 11
There are lots of actors who have put their acting careers on hold to serve their country. This was most noticeable during World War II, but it has happened in every war since then. One example is Driver, who joined the United States Marine Corps at 18 after the September 11 attack. The Marriage Story star served for over two years as a Mortar man with the 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, before being medically discharged due to injuries sustained in a mountain biking accident.

With its list of new releases for October 2022, Amazon Prime Video isn’t fully aboard the spooky season train but it is at least spooky adjacent.
The biggest release this month is Prime Video original series The Peripheral on Oct. 21. While not outright horror, it does sound more than a little unnerving. Based on a 2014 sci-fi novel by William Gibson, The Peripheral stars Chloë Grace Moretz as a woman in a near-future society who may have just discovered an alternate reality. Fittingly, Westworld‘s Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy serve as executive producers.
The other TV series of note in October is The Devil’s Hour on Oct. 28. This British thriller comes form Steven Moffat and tells the story of a woman who wakes up at 3:33 a.m. (the devil’s hour) each night to receive a disturbing vision.
October is home to a couple of Amazon movies of note as well.

Congrats, everyone! We’ve finally made it to another spooky season. To celebrate, Netflix is highlighting its best horror content on its list of new releases for October 2022.
It wouldn’t be October on Netflix without a new Mike Flanagan title. Thankfully the Midnight Mass showrunner returns with The Midnight Club on Oct. 7. This series, adapted from a book of the same name, takes place in a hospice for terminally ill teens who have all made a gruesome pact. This series will be followed up by other creepy TV titles like Unsolved Mysteries Vol. 3 on Oct. 18, 28 Days Haunted on Oct. 21, and most importantly: Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities on Oct. 25, which will collect eight terrifying stories from the famed director himself.

Star Trek writer D.C. Fontana has passed away, leaving behind a trailblazing legacy that opened doors for female writers.
Dorothy Catherine Fontana, the legendary television writer better known by her gender-hiding nom de plume, D.C. Fontana, has passed away on December 2 at the age of 80, following a short illness, announces the official Star Trek site.
Even to casual fans of 1966-1969’s original Star Trek series who might be oblivious to the show’s behind-the-scenes stories, the name D.C. Fontana should ring a bell, since it was prominently and frequently affixed in the credits. While the story of her emergence in the monolithically male-dominated television industry of the 1960s is one that – especially now – seems destined for dramatization, Fontana’s contributions to the canon of the still-thriving bellwether sci-fi franchise also happened to be crucial.

Dorothy Fontana, the first female Star Trek writer and a stalwart presence in television science fiction for four decades, died on Monday. She was 80.
The screen credit “D.C. Fontana” became a familiar one to several generations of sci-fi television viewers — and Star Trek fans in particular — but most didn’t know the pen name belonged to a trailblazing woman hoping to carve out a career in an arena long dominated by male writers, executives, and fans.
Fontana’s considerable contributions to the Starfleet universe include the classic episode “Journey to Babel” from the original Star Trek series (1966-1969), Yesteryear from the well-regarded Star Trek: The Animated Series (1973), and “Encounter at Farpoint,” the pilot for Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987-1994), which she co-wrote with the brand’s creator, Gene Roddenberry.

The New Jersey native’s television writing career began in 1960 with The Tall Man and her eclectic credits included...

Dorothy Catherine (D.C.) Fontana passed away peacefully last evening at the age of 80 after a brief illness.
Ms. Fontana gained global notoriety for her writing and story editing on the 1960’s television series Star Trek, as well as the 1970’s animated series, which she also associate produced. Her myth-building work on classic Trek blazed a trail for women, not only in television, but also in science fiction. Her well-known screen credit kept the fact of her gender a secret from most fans until they saw her picture in Stephen Whitfield’s The Making of Star Trek, one of the “bibles” of classic Trekker fandom.
Dorothy Fontana was responsible for creating Spock’s childhood history, including the essential story “Yesteryear,” which though produced for Star Trek: The Animated Series, is as powerful as the best episodes of the classic series. I grew up in the ‘70s, and as a burgeoning horror fan, there was no better time to be alive. I cherished every outlet and every aspect – I had The Witching Hour comics and Creepy magazines, a mom who took me to the movies to see Burnt Offerings at the age of six, and a cavalcade of small screen terrors. Being a kid, my domain was Saturday morning, naturally. Scooby-Doo and the gang fighting the (usually) fake monsters, The Monster Squad, Far Out Space Nuts, and Land of the Lost were but some of the shows that tackled not necessarily horror, but at the very least the fantastic.
Because I was a kid, seeing previews for The Night Stalker TV series almost made me weep – it came on way after my bedtime as part of CBS’ late night programming. So imagine my delight one Saturday morning as I arose an...

Bingo, Fleegle, Drooper and Snorky, the zany collective better known as The Banana Splits, are coming back with a vengeance — and with a body count?
As revivals go, this one may be as audacious as it is unexpected: Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and Syfy are bringing back the Banana Splits, the trippy-dippy characters introduced back in 1968 as the anthropomorphic hosts of The Banana Splits Adventure Hour variety program. This time around, however, the Banana Splits are being served up in a horror thriller.
The original movie will premiere this year from Blue Ribbon Content, Warner Bros Television Group’s digital studio, via a Warner Bros. 8th Update, 7:30 Am Wednesday: Aquaman had a huge Christmas Day, earning $22M to make it one of six films to gross north of $20M on Christmas after Star Wars pics The Force Awakens ($49.3M), The Last Jedi ($27.4M) and Rogue One ($25.8M), along with Sherlock Holmes ($24.6M), and Avatar ($23M). This takes the James Wan-directed movie to $101M through five days, and with previews $105.7M. Aquaman jumped 102% over its Christmas Eve take of $10.95M.
Note that even with previews, Aquaman still is slightly behind the five-day take of last year’s Justice League ($111.9M), which was one of the low points in the recent DC franchise commercially and critically, ending its domestic run at $229M and Ww at $657.9M. However, there’s more optimism in Aquaman given its slightly higher exits of A- to Justice League B+ and the fact that the DC title is in the lucrative year-end post-holiday season.

Jennifer Aniston will play the first female and lesbian President of the United States in an upcoming Netflix film. Announced Friday, “First Ladies” is the brainchild of Tig Notaro and her wife/former “One Mississippi” co-star Stephanie Allynne. They are now at work on the script, and Notaro will star opposite the “Friends” Emmy-winner as Flotus.
“When Beverly and Kasey Nicholson move into the White House, they’ll prove that behind every great woman… is another great woman,” reads the political comedy’s official synopsis. Aniston, Notaro, and Allynne will all co-produce, along with Oscar-winning writer Adam McKay (“The Big Short”), his longtime Gary Sanchez Productions partner Will Ferrell, Jessica Elbaum (“Bachlorette”) and veteran Notaro collaborator Betsy Koch (“Tig Notaro: Boyish Girl Interrupted”).
In 2013, Elbaum — Ferrell’s former assistant — came up with the idea for Gloria Sanchez Productions, a spinoff company created to tell women’s stories, which will oversee “First Ladies.

Sid and Marty Krofft have often said that, through their programming, they “messed with kids’ minds.” But that has proven not to be a negative thing, as their programs not only entertained but inspired future content creators.
“Instead of trying to capture grounded reality with their puppetry, [Sid and Marty] celebrated the absurd and embraced the cartoon sensibility,” says Dan Milano, creator of “Greg the Bunny,” who later worked with the Kroffts on a feature adaptation of “H.R. Pufnstuf.”
“They understand a child’s imagination and how fragmented and sweet — but with an edge of darkness — it can be.”
Milano discovered at an early age that it was entirely feasible to grow up and become a paid creator by watching Krofft productions.
“It made it so that I didn’t feel it was unusual at all that I would draw silly pictures, do silly voices, put on puppet shows, make them talk, and...

Sid and Marty Krofft created memorable, magical Saturday morning live-action television shows including “H.R. Pufnstuf,” “Land of the Lost” and “Electra Woman and Dyna Girl,” but their success extends far beyond sea monsters, magic flutes and Vroom Brooms. They’ve entertained millions, employed thousands and inspired many of today’s content creators — they’re still in production today with “Mutt & Stuff,” which airs on Nickelodeon. Recently, a revival of “Sigmund and the Sea Monsters” appeared on Amazon. Now, the dynamic duo is being honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 45th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.
“It’s not easy to be in the business with your relatives,” says Marty Krofft. “But we’ve lasted longer than most marriages in the world.”
“You just make it work,” says Sid Krofft. “We’ve been together professionally for 60 years. We argue, but that’s just part of being Sid and Marty Krofft.

As revealed when its synopsis was unveiled, fittingly, on February 2nd, an upcoming episode of Legends of Tomorrow will see the DC superhero show offer its own spin on the classic Groundhog Day time loop scenario. In season 3, episode 11, titled “Here I Go Again,” the crew of the Waverider will be frozen in time – and Zari (Tala Ashe) is the only one who can save them.
We now have our first look at this exciting-sounding episode in the form of a batch of photos. Going by the groovy costumes the team are wearing, it seems that the outing is set in the aftermath of a visit to the 1970s. Considering that we know the cast will be frozen still for most of the runtime, this should provide a lot of laughs.

That’s right, woodchuck chuckers, it’s Groundhog Day! So, seeing as it’s February 2nd, let’s take a look at the just-released synopsis for an upcoming episode of Legends of Tomorrow which will take inspiration from the classic Bill Murray comedy based around the holiday.
In episode 11 of season 3, “Here I Go Again,” Tala Ashe’s Zari will find herself trapped in a time loop. Rather than being stuck in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, though, the heroine will have to prevent the Waverider from being destroyed over and over. That’s definitely higher stakes than trying to woo Andie MacDowell.
It also sounds like the time loop gimmick will be used to explore Zari’s character and what her place is on the team. Having joined the gang at the beginning of the season, she’s still the newbie of the bunch, so this one will likely deal with her...

One of the best bonuses to come out of the original streaming explosion is the launch of tons of new content for kids and family, and that includes a few throwback titles, like Amazon‘s Sigmund and the Sea Monsters.
The original show first aired when I was about two, and was part of a larger Sid & Marty Krofft world that became an integral part of ’70s culture. While there is much to be said for both incarnations of the wacky, family adventure, the best recommendation you can probably give for either is that the spirit of the Krofft effort is fueled by such a childlike imagination that you’re going to end up with something fun. For good or ill, the new effort feels like transporting yourself back in time, not just because the production isn’t exactly updated, but also because the mindset behind the creation isn’t different.

There’s several ways you can look at “Jumanji,” a reboot of the franchise started in 1995 with Robin Williams, but quickly abandoned. One, the modern version features Dwayne Johnson, arguably the world’s biggest and bankable star, so it has that going for it. It also looks like a cross between “Kong: Skull Island” and “Land Of The Lost.”

But what’s perhaps more interesting to us is the fact the film’s being directed by Jake Kasdan, the comedy filmmaker behind films like “Bad Teacher” “Sex Tape” and Judd Apatow’s “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.” And like many filmmakers around him, Kasdan is making the ambitious leap into big-budget filmmaking with “Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle.

Although DC’s Legends of Tomorrow certainly won over many viewers with its first season, it could be argued that it really started to live up to its potential in the second. Sure, Vandal Savage certainly made for a formidable adversary and it was cool to see the time traveling series utilize beloved characters such as Jonah Hex, but seeing as how this is a team-up show, it only made sense that a cadre of villains unite to confound the Waverider crew.
We are, of course, speaking of the Legion of Doom. Rip turning from Waverider captain to member of the Legion of Doom has been one of the better moves in a very smart season 2 of Legends of Tomorrow. Arthur Darvill did as fine a job as the original Rip, but as evil Rip, he has been at a whole new level of engaging. Rip's days as a villain were always limited, though, and this episode, "Land of the Lost," makes an effort to restore the status quo in more ways than one.

The first season of Legends of Tomorrow was met with mixed reviews, but season 2 has been considerably better so far. Part of that’s because the show’s been throwing huge twists and turns at fans pretty much each and every week, with the biggest being the villainous transformation of Rip Hunter.
Left without his memories after saving the team in the premiere, the Reverse-Flash and his Legion of Doom soon tracked him down and reprogrammed his mind so that he would do their bidding. Now, the Legends have him back and they’re hoping to travel into his subconscious in order to return Rip to his old self as their leader and the man who knows more about time travel than anyone else.

Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events was a Ya book series like few others, one that relished in the morose, the bizarre and the tragically hilarious lives of the Baudelaire children, a trio of precocious, remarkably-astute orphans struck with endless tribulations after their house is burned to the ground, everything they owned is destroyed and their parents are horrifically consumed in flames — and that’s before they meet Count Olaf, their wicked, deprived, massively selfish legal guardian who’ll stop at nothing to steal his adopted kids’ enormous fortune.
It was a deliciously absurd, gleefully disdainful, compulsively wicked and thesaurus-friendly 13-part collection, the kind that tickled the fancy of the right kind of young literary consumer (notably, those who enjoy their comedy dark), though one that didn’t quite get the cinematic transition...

If you are excited by the prospect of a Lonely Island movie, I have good news for you. Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping is a Lonely Island movie in every way, packed with music and jokes. At 90 minutes, it moves fast, and it offers up some laser-sharp satire. If there’s any overall problem with the film, it is that they’ve made a very specific satire of a target that is so ridiculous it almost resists parody. It’s easy to just make the comparison to This Is Spinal Tap, the mockumentary that launched Rob Reiner’s career as a director, but Popstar is a reaction to a very different kind of film than Spinal Tap was. You have to go back and look at films like The Song Remains The Same or The Kids Are Alright to understand what the culture was that Spinal Tap targeted, while modern...

Mutt & Stuff is an adorable new series premieres Friday, July 10 and is about a unique school for talented real-life pooches and hilarious puppets. There simply aren’t enough dinosaur movies. Even with Jurassic World in theaters right now (and Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur just a few months away), I still feel like we’re owed at least three or four more by next week. Like there’s some gnawing hole in the world that won’t be satisfied until the coolness factor of your average dinosaur (extremely high) matches with the amount of enthusiasm Hollywood has for crafting high-quality dinosaur films (middling at best). It hurts. And if you’re a fan of really big extinct lizards, you’re probably hurting too (especially given the state of the last few dinosaur flicks to hit theaters — Land of the Lost, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Walking With Dinosaurs: The 3D Movie. Come on, people). So let’s do a little walkthrough of dinosaur movie history, with two goals in mind: 1. Figure out why those who love dinosaur...

How do you convert a television show to the movie screen? It is a conundrum that has plagued movie studios for decades now. For every Mission: Impossible, The Fugitive or 21 Jump Street -- movies that figure out how to extend the premise of the original program . there are far too many I Spy, Land of the Lost or Entourage adaptations out there. It.s a tricky line to balance, and one that many are going to try and figure out because TV shows will continue to inspire movies . and vice versa. One of the latest attempts at reviving the past reaches theaters on August 14. Guy Ritchie, who recently energized Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.s Sherlock Holmes, is applying his dry wit and stylish visuals to the 1960s Cold War spy series The Man From U.N.C.L.E., except instead of modernizing the story, he.s sending 2015 audiences into ...
