The Fact of Fiction: The Making of 'The Mind Robber' (to give it it's full on screen title) is a 34 minute long documentary featured on the special edition DVD release of the Doctor Who story The Mind Robber (1968) staring Patrick Troughton.

To get straight to the point this is an excellent documentary with contributions from most of the surviving cast & crew members from actor's Wendy Padbury & Frazer Hines to script editor Derrick Sherwin & writer Peter Ling. There's lots of interesting tidbits of information & some anecdotes as well just the way I like these documentaries. Form the origin of the script by Crossraods (1964 - 1988) creator Ling to the widely known fact that Sherwin wrote Episode 1 on his own after the previous story The Dominators (1968) lost an episode which was a problem since they couldn't hire any more actor's, make any sets or monsters or do anything which is why most of it is set in the TARDIS or a white void. It's interesting to hear that Patrick Troughton complained that since no other actors featured in Epiosde 1 himself, Hines & Padbury should be paid more & even threatened to go on strike! Needless to say he failed in his request. There's the story about Hines coming down with chicken pox, the brown horse they had to paint white & various other nice little stories & info.

The Fact of Fiction is a great documentary that is actually informative for a change, seasoned Doctor Who fans who know everything about the series already probably won't find much here they didn't know already but anyone new to it or more casual fans will learn plenty from this from the people directly involved with making it.
