interesting film-project sort of movie
therica28 October 2006
I don't know anything about the makers of this movie, but I see the director / writer / producer (et al) is the same person, and the lead-actor is also assistant director.

The quality of this film is second-rate for "commercial," more of a well-done project or class-production of some sort. The audio is a bit muddy and echoing, usually the result of only using a solitary microphone. On DVD, the audio would occasionally blip-out for a millisecond or so.

The acting quality is of modest talent, sort of the typical home-movie level that results from inexperienced direction and production. Actors frequently entered the scene, approached the other character and turned to face them in novice manner.

The movie proceeds a bit slowly but surely. The plot is interesting and moderately enticing. The story surrounds a high-school upcoming-senior forced into his father's small and small-town Maine ice-cream delivery business, during his last summer at home. The main character would rather be pursuing his art talent and interests, but his father disapproves of his interest in becoming an artist.

The father is unduly overbearing toward his son, both in personal and business matters. The son, of course, feels torn between the rejection and disapproval of his father, versus just finding himself and his own way in life.

In the long run, the movie becomes slower and slower, with some scenes taking half a minute that would be no more than a few-second shot in most commercial-quality movies. The plot gradually becomes confused and muddled, and unfocused, with ultimately little satisfaction.

If you're a new film-maker looking for an interesting movie that shows all of the pitfalls while dabbling with modest potential, you'd probably enjoy this as a technique-study. If you're simply looking for an enjoyable movie to entertain a few hours, or challenge your thoughts and beliefs, pass on this one.
