Down For The 'Count'
ccthemovieman-121 February 2010
"Count de Walden" is kidnapping free men and using them for his military service, even innocent 14-year-old kids, which has one grandma really upset, enough to contact her friend "Maid Marian" (Bernadette O'Farrell).

Why is the count taking men and buying all the weapons and armor in the territory? That is for "Robin Hood" and his cohorts to discover and to stop. Marian tells Robin what's what and through her, the "outlaws" hope to penetrate the Count's castle and free the captives, along with thwarting his plans.

All of this takes place in another fairly action-paced episode which looks corny is spots but one has to remember this was a kids' show probably more than for adults, although both enjoyed this back in the 1950s. It's still pretty darned entertaining. Richard Greene is always good as "Robin Hood" and O'Farrell made a beautiful "Marian." Phillips is good as "Count de Walden," a man who gets careless and stupid over a pretty woman. Hey, that sounds familiar!

Checkmate
Prismark1024 August 2020
These days it is easy to forget just how much impact the Norman conquests made on Anglo Saxon life. It almost destroyed it.

Leslie Phillips plays the dastardly Count de Waldern. An aristocrat who is more comfortable in all things French.

The Count is rounding up men, even kids who are told of a life of adventure to go and fight the crusades. In fact it is a ploy to grab King Richard's throne.

A distraught grandmother approaches Lady Marian when her grandson has been taken. The Count agrees to see Marian over dinner and a game of chess.

It gives Robin Hood a chance to overpower the Count's men. Friar Tuck is concerned the Count is counting on to seduce Marian over some dinner and wine. Marian has a plan to make the Count talk.

Another humorous adventure with more focus on Lady Marian. You can count on Phillips having an eye for a pretty lady.
