- Parker Pyne helps a middle-aged wife to recover the attention of her husband, a philandering business-man too interested in his pretty young secretary.
- Dismayed that her husband George is ignoring her in favour of his much younger secretary Nancy, Maria Packington answers an advert guaranteeing to make her happier and ends up in Parker Pyne's office. As a result she is introduced to handsome young Claude Luttrell who makes her feel special, and eventually Maria and Claude 'bump into' George and Nancy, as a result of which George that what is sauce for the goose applies to the gander and returns to his wife. Claude lets Maria down gently by saying that he is a gigolo but will reform because of her so that she will always feel special.—don @ minifie-1
- Maria Packington is at an age and a point in her marriage where she is unhappy. She has a dreary existence and she and her husband, a kind man but something of a buffoon, have little in coming. He has also taken to staying at the office late on most evenings and she suspects that he is spending time with his pretty secretary, Nancy. Maria sees an ad in the newspaper from Parker Pyne who offers to help people who want to be happy. She contacts him but recoils at the cost, £200, eventually agreeing. She spends the day at the spa and feels like a new woman. Pyne arranges for her to lunch with a young man, Claude Luttrell, who seems to have an interest in her. When she and Luttrell meet her husband and his secretary at a dance hall, her relationship begins to mend itself.—garykmcd
