Another relatable episode for all of us teen BRADY BUNCH fans who grew up on the series in the 70s.
And this story is especially timely as it follows the CLASSIC swollen nose episode involving Marcia!
Make it a double feature.
Peter gets his first big job fixing bikes for nice, old Mr. Martinelli (played by the ever terrific Jay Novello). The rest is a disaster.
For one thing, Pete ain't mechanically inclined when it comes to putting bikes back together --and the phone is ringing with impatient customers who want their bikes ASAP! As a kid, this is
the frightmare of a lifetime --REJECTION. And as you watch this episode you can only sympathize with Peter, thinking of all the ups and downs you had back in the day.
This is an excellent episode, and taking some of the comedy out of it too. Peter gets really, really bummed, sitting in the park and feeding the pidgeons? Well directed by Robert Reed, who directed a few other episodes, but I think this is his best effort. Chris Knight is convincing here.
Film and tv vet Jay Novello is a super guest star. Jay was in many top movies since the 1930s, usually as a fidgety, nervous guy, sometimes mixed up with gangsters. For tv buffs, he made a classic appearance on I LOVE LUCY, as a guy (who witnessed a murder!) who rents the Ricardo's apartment, hides in a closet and won't move. Unforgettable.
Great stuff from the good old days of tv, and yes, teens will always have their fair share of problems with the new boss. From SEASON 4 Paramount/ABC dvd box set.
