Warning: Spoilers
The previous week's episode saw Richie and Eddie being arrested for flashing their rear ends to millions of viewers on 'TV-AM'. This episode sees the two in court being sentenced to life imprisonment by the fascistic judge ( played wonderfully by the late John Wells ). That is until Filthy manages to convince the judge to give Richie and Eddie a conditional discharge - the condition being that they find gainful employment outside of showbusiness, a condition which deeply wounds Richie. However, the judge sentences Filthy to death by execution for his previous criminal convictions.

Whilst visiting Filthy in prison, the three try to discuss Richie and Eddie's career prospects. Taking into account their talents ( non existent ), Filthy suggests they take up journalism.

Their first day sees them digging up dirt on Midge 'Ultravox' Ure ( who is greeted by a huge cheer from the studio audience ) for indulging in sexual activities and drug taking at Bob Geldof's house. It is of course untrue but to Richie and Eddie the point of journalism is to dig up the dirt on people whether it is true or not, a ruse further helped by corrupt Australian publisher Dingo Wucker ( John Bird ). Eventually, Richie and Eddie have smeared pretty much everyone in showbiz, meaning that as he is the only celebrity left, the television stations are forced to give him a job.

'Filthy, Rich & Catflap' rounded itself off with this little gem. It's just a pity there never was a second series. Although there was notion of it in the scene where Filthy manages to avoid being hung with the aid of a safety harness: ''I've got to be in the next series!'' says Filthy. Also during the credits, the continuity announcer says: ''And 'Filthy, Rich & Catflap' will return next year''. However, lack of interest from viewers ( who felt the show was nothing more than half hearted rehash of 'The Young Ones' ) ensured that it would be dropped from the airwaves after only six episodes. A pity as it had so much potential.

Two scenes from this episode were omitted due to rights issues from VHS/DVD releases. The scene in which Richie enacts the 'Consider Yourself' musical sequence from 'Oliver' and the scene in which Eddie sings Sting's hit 'Roxanne' upon meeting Midge Ure.

'Filthy, Rich & Catflap' may not have lasted long, but it still proved influential. For instance, the characters of Richie and Eddie were used in Rik and Ade's next sitcom - the more successful 'Bottom', screened by BBC2 in 1991.

Funniest bit - a post closing credits sequence in which while Richie sits admiring himself on the television and Filthy makes off with a suitcase, Eddie wrecks the entire studio set. As the scenery lies in a heap around him, Richie beams to the audience: ''made it!''.

Second funniest bit - Eddie headbutting Richie in the balls!
