Gomer And Jerry
sambase-387738 January 2022
When the episode opens Jerry Van Dyke is entertaining in a nightclub and everybody in the audience is completely ignoring him except one Gomer Pyle who thinks he's the greatest entertainer since Al Jolson. When Jerry is done Gomer goes back stage to talk to him. Jerry says that he's been fired and that when his final "set" is done he'll be leaving for good.

When the next "set" takes place Gomer helps to get the crowd fired up by having them do a sing-a-long. The manager of the joint comes out and sees that his joint is "jumping" and loves it. He wants to hire Gomer and Jerry to entertain there every night. This leads to complications with Gomer's Marine duty and Sgt. Carter. And then Gomer lies to Sgt. Carter. And he gets caught lying, too. Never lie to a Marine Sergeant. Never, never, never. Shame, shame, shame!

I won't spoil the rest of it. I thought it was fairly good. I'm not a big fan of Jerry Van Dyke his act is too cornball for me, but he wasn't too bad in this playing an entertainer with bad luck and no confidence.

QUOTE: "And if I ever catch you singing in that nightclub again you're going to find yourself digging up the entire state of California!" -Sgt. Carter.

QUOTE: "You're forgetting one thing. Pyle has got a soft heart. And a soft head to match. It's a set." -Sgt. Carter.
