Sue Ann claims there isn't a name for the celluloid things on the end of shoe laces. They do have a name: aglets. The modern plastic forms were patented in 1790, but they've been around since at least the Roman era when they were made of glass, metal or stone, to keep the ends of laces and ribbons from fraying and help secure them. As the Happy Homemaker, this is something she would usually know.
