- Jessica is pulled into a murder investigation by a woman who claims Jessica's husband fathered her son.
- Architect Steve Landon refuses to be bribed by contractor Ben Olston into covering up his shoddy, unsafe modifications of his plans for a school. Next, an explosion burns it down and Lt. Barney Claymore arrests Steve, who publicly threatened Olston. His mother, Nancy Landon, turns to Jessica, a fellow Korean War veterans wife, asking for help and claims Steve's illegitimate father was none other than Jessica's late husband, Frank. Doubting her story, Jessica has lawyer Andrew Dixon arrange bail and search military records. Nancy later shows her an old letter from Frank offering to help raising Steve, but is arrested after the murder of Olston in his home, where she says to have confronted him unannounced, but an appointment slip was lying on his desk.—KGF Vissers
- After her son, Steve Landon, is arrested by the police, his mother, Nancy Landon, pleads with Jessica to help them out. Steve was the architect on a major construction project but threatened to expose the main contractor, Ben Olston, and corrupt municipal officials after they started cutting corners. He foolishly threatened to blow the site up before he would sign off on specifications that made the building unsafe. Jessica is not sure she wants to gets involved but Nancy shares a painful secret with her. She and Jessica's husband, Frank, had an affair while stationed in Korea and Steve is his son. Despite warnings from her lawyer not to get involved, Jessica is convinced that Steve is innocent. When Olston is found dead however, it's Nancy who is the main suspect.—garykmcd
