- Col. T. Jennings Parker: [on his new morning suit] Unfortunately, Tinkerton's had nothing suitable for this occasion.
- Chet Buchanan: Well, that's great. We spend a million a year making people think they can get everything at Tinkerton's!
- Col. T. Jennings Parker: I know - here's the bill.
- Chet Buchanan: Two hundred and thirty-four dollars!
- Col. T. Jennings Parker: Yes - I got a slight discount.
- Col. T. Jennings Parker: [on Lt. Green having power of attorney] That empowers you, my boy, to act for Stella in this crisis, too - it permits you to choose a proxy bride.
- Lt. Fred Green: Well, yes - but who?
- [he smiles at Polly, who starts to get up, then sits down again]
- Lt. Fred Green: And the clothes fit her, too!
- Polly Parker: Meet you at six, in front of your French window.
- Hank Douglas: You mean it?
- Polly Parker: Sure do.
- Hank Douglas: Well, this is the first time you've ever said yes!
- Polly Parker: The first time you ever asked me the night before payday.
- Hank Douglas: ...Oh, you mercenary dame.
- Doretta: Would you happen to have any more of those contingent jobs?
- Mercedes Fairfax: Mr. Tinkerton would die if we ever took you out of men's shorts.
- Chet Buchanan: He wasn't at the chapel - he was outside the store, trying to get in.
- Lt. Fred Green: Boy, what a crowd - there must be a sale!
- Lt. Fred Green: [as Hank takes away a mannequin] Sorry - these things are beginning to seem real to me.
- Hank Douglas: I like these better than the real ones - easier to handle.
- [first lines]
- Doretta: [clocking in at department store] Polly!
- Polly Parker: Hi, Doretta.
- Doretta: Polly - I just heard there's an opening in perfume.
- Polly Parker: Sorry, dear; not interested.
- Doretta: But Polly! That department always smells so nice, and it's on the first floor where you meet all the men. Aw, come on - settle down in perfume; stop bein' a floater.
- Polly Parker: I am not a floater.
- Doretta: Well, area girl, relief lady - whatever you are.
- Polly Parker: I am a contingent. At least, personnel says so.
- Doretta: A contingent?
- Polly Parker: I know. I didn't know what it meant, either, 'til I looked it up. According to Webster, contingent means "likely or liable, but not certain, to occur."
