- After the Enterprise landing party beams down to investigate a geologically interesting planet, their ship is hurled across the galaxy. Kirk and company find a deserted outpost guarded by the deadly image of a beautiful woman.
- After the Enterprise landing party (Kirk and geologist D'Amato (Arthur Batanides), Sulu and McCoy) beams down to investigate a geologically interesting planet (The planet is only a few thousand yrs old, yet has full vegetation. Size is like the Moon, but mass and Atmosphere like Earth), their ship is hurled across the galaxy (the planet has a large Earthquake type event). Just before the transport, a woman came on-board and warned Kirk not to beam down (but it was too late & she killed the transport officer in an attempt to stop him)..
Spock tries to figure out what happened. He is told by Dr M'Benga (Booker Bradshaw), Medical officer in charge (as McCoy is on the planet), that the transporter officer died as every cell in his body exploded from the inside. In a flash, they have been zapped a 1000 light yrs from their previous position. Spock orders a return to the planet and theorizes that someone came on-board the ship who killed the transporter officer.
Kirk and company find that all vegetation on the planet is poisonous to them and there is no source of water. Sulu finds brief readings of magnetic fields from the planet, but they disappear after a few moment. The 4 guys split up to do their tasks. D'Amato is confronted by the same woman (as on-board the Enterprise) and she touches D'Amato, who ends up dead. Kirk also discovers that the whole planet is made of a very dense rock.
The same woman next shows up on the Enterprise and she knows everything about the ship and kills one more crew member in the Engineering section. Back on the planet, Sulu says that the planet is made of a alloy of Diburnium-Osmium and cannot have evolved naturally. Kirk and McCoy sleep, while Sulu keeps first watch when the woman re-appears. Sulu fires at her, to no effect, He raises the alarm and Kirk + McCoy respond. The woman is not able to hurt Kirk and keep saying that she needs to touch Sulu. She disappears.. Meanwhile the speed of the Enterprise keeps climbing due to a power surge. The engine bypass controls are fused and Scott says that the ship will blow in 15 mins. Kirk surmises that the destructive power of the woman is aimed at one person at a time. When she appears next, she calls for Kirk and McCoy + Sulu block her. She says she wants to kill them as they are the invaders. She is Losira (Lee Meriwether), she says the planet is a station, but appears dazed and confused. She is the defender of the station and the others are no more. Spock and Scott save the ship by disrupting the flow of fuel directly to the reactors. In the process Spock also discovers that when the ship re-materialized 1000 light yrs away, it was slightly out of sync with the original magnetic force field.
Meanwhile Kirk, McCOy and Sulu find an entrance to the "station".. There they are attacked by multiple forms of Losira, each after Kirk, McCoy and Sulu. Thats when Spock arrives and Kirk orders it to destroy the computer, which makes the Losiras disappear. A recorded messages comes, in which Losira explains that Kalandans created this planet, but ended up creating a virus that wiped out their race. The output defends itself against selective life forms other then itself. TO defend the output, the computer used the only image available to it, Losira's.
