- Chakotay is captured by a young Kazon who is undergoing a manhood ritual.
- Chakotay goes off in a shuttle to honor his dead father. However, he is attacked for being in Kazon-Ogla space by a young Kazon wanting to earn his warrior name. Chakotay defeats the Kazon vessel and saves the young boy Kar by transporting him aboard his shuttle craft before Kar's vessel explodes. When Chakotay tries to return his prisoner to a Kazon vessel, Kar begs to be killed just before they're taken captive. After Kar reveals that he will now never earn his warrior name, Chakotay escapes from the Kazon vessel, and Kar goes with him. While running away, Chakotay's shuttle crashes on a moon full of booby traps used to train young Kazons. Federation and Kazon must work together, both as Chakotay and Kar seek to survive and as their respective crews seek to find them.—Anonymous
- Chakotay (Robert Beltran) is alone on a shuttle craft when he is attacked by Kar, a young Kazon (played by Aron Eisenberg), who is completing a rite of passage to earn his Kazon adult/warrior name. Chakotay targets Kar's ship and beams him out before it is destroyed. While trying to return Kar to the Kazon, Chakotay is captured. When it becomes clear that the Kazon intend to kill both Chakotay and Kar, the two escape together. Their shuttle is fired on by a pursuing ship and goes down on a nearby moon. There Kar struggles with his internal conflict: one the one hand, his desire to kill Chakotay to prove himself a Kazon warrior, and on the other his growing respect for him. Meanwhile, the Voyager crew has discovered Chakotay is missing and begin a search. The Kazon who shot Chakotay down follow Janeway (Kate Mulgrew), Kes (Jennifer Lien), and Tuvok (Tim Russ) to the planet and together they search for Chakotay and Kar. When contacted by Voyager and told to expect imminent rescue, Chakotay agrees to let Kar "kill" him, believing he could be resuscitated aboard Voyager. That way Kar could get his name and return to the Kazon. But when the rescue party finds them, Kar turns his phaser on Razik his commander (Patrick Kilpatrick) and offers himself to the second in command, who accepts his allegiance and gives him his Kazon name.
