- Red grossly insults Hyde trough a misunderstanding on his birthday. Hyde gets a letter from the DMV for his 18th Birthday and Red had simply assumed it was another ticket for his irresponsible driving. Kitty decides to throw Hyde a real surprise party for his 18th, at neighbor Bob's place. Steven seriously tries to make clear he doesn't want to celebrate the end of his youth, and maybe moving out. Kitty is adamant that Hyde simply does not know that he needs a party and continues to plan one.
Kitty asks Jackie and Fez to do the decorations, and this hurts Donna (as Kitty doesn't see her as feminine). But Jackie and Fez can't even agree on a theme. Jackie wants Arabian Nights, while Fez says that Arabian Nights is not a right theme for Hyde. They both quit when they ask Hyde what theme he wants, and he says he is not interested in a party. Donna does all the decorations.
The kids think up a cool gift (it has to be a perfect Hyde gift for his 18th birthday), and Kelso had the winning idea: a stolen street sign. But stealing it is hell even on his beloved van. They can't climb it as Eric cannot boost Donna as she is too big. Eric refuses to be boosted by Kelso as Kelso will simply throw him off. Kelso refuses for anyone climb over his van as that would dent the roof. When Kelso uses the van to bring the pole down it busts the rear bumper (which falls off). Kelso tries to blow the pole with a cracker, and it doesn't burst, so he puts it in his jacket where it ignites and makes a hole. The next plan is to steal Red's tool to saw through the base of the pole. Red catches Kelso, but Kelso distracts Red with nonsensical answers till Donna and Eric steal the tools. Kelso says that he needs to borrow a saw to chop down a tree, as a rabbit is stuck in it. Kelso wants to rescue the rabbit to return it to the wild, where it can lay its eggs. They get back, only to find a kid had already stolen the sign. Eric offers $20, but no. Finally, Donna shows him her bra strap to get the sign.
Hyde refuses to show up to his Birthday party and so Kitty sends Red to bring him. Red enjoys pointing out to Hyde the cumbersome duties of manhood. Red tells Hyde that the first rule of being a man is to do things that one doesn't like. Hyde wants to move out as he is 18 years old and wants to make a life of his own, But Red convinces him to stay as he doesn't want Hyde to end up in prison like the most of his family. Red tells Hyde not to tell Eric about this conversation. Red says that when Eric turns 18, he is out.
Hyde shows up to the party. He tells Donna, Eric and Kelso that you can get signs at the flea market for $2. Kitty gives him a crappy sweater and Hyde has to wear it "like a man".
