Helen A. Wagner, the second contestant, was the daughter of German immigrant August Wagner who founded the 'Gambrinus Brewing and Bottling Company' in 1906 in Columbus, Ohio. In 1937 the company was renamed "August Wagner Breweries, Inc", and it was owned by the Wagner family until 1968.
Sgt. Keith E. Davis, the first contestant, trained United States Marine Corps (USMC) enlisted women. There have been women in the USMC since 1918, and in 1967 Master Sergeant Barbara Dulinsky became the first female Marine to serve in a combat zone in Vietnam.
Raymond Burr portrayed the title character on 'Perry Mason (1957)' for nine seasons. The show was Hollywood's first weekly one-hour series filmed for TV and remains one of the longest-running and most successful legal-themed series. In 1960, it received the first 'Silver Gavel Award', given to honor outstanding work by those who help improve comprehension of jurisprudence, presented by the American Bar Association.
