Their journey is destined to be pact with non-stop action, millions of laughs, heart pounding perils and endless excitement. Together they will encounter fantastic friends, evil enemies and meet creatures beyond their wildest imagination and as their story unfolds, we'll unlock the magic and mystery of the most wondrous place: the incredible world of Pokémon!

- ConnectionsFeatured in Poketto monsuta: Aki no special (1997)
You have to wonder, even with the juggernaut of Pokemon games and branding behind it, could the creative team know just how many years Ash Ketchum would remain 10 years old.
While undoubtedly a kids show with a franchise to sell, there's a great sense of both wonder and restraint this first episode shows in explaining some details, but not everything, showing a huge world and letting some fantastical creatures pass by uncommented upon, while hitting existing fans with a classic "I know what that is" dopamine hit.
And, I'll tell you what - even 25 years on, as the episode reaches its climax and an unshakable friendship between Ash and Pikachu is forged, cynicism aside, it's a lovely moment about trust and friendship.
