‘I don’t want to take these characters home’: Jesse Plemons on life playing the psychopath next door
Chilling performances in Breaking Bad, Civil War and now Yorgos Lanthimos’ Kinds of Kindness have made the actor cinema’s go-to wrong ‘un – but the roles he plays can be hard to shake off
Jesse Plemons is a successful young actor, instinctive and natural, who likes to inhabit every role he takes on. He can play lead or support; light comedy or dark drama; the cornfed all-American or his curdled, troubled cousin. The 36-year-old can handle any part, it seems, except that of Jesse Plemons, a successful young actor with a new film to promote. Now, all at once, he is ill at ease. He regards the hotel couch as though it’s a dentist’s chair. “These are two completely different skills,” he confides. “Acting, I mean, and whatever we’re doing right now.”

Without fail, every Best TV Shows Ever list will have The Sopranos, The Wire and Breaking Bad near or at the top. Unless, of course, it’s Daniel Radcliffe’s personal ranking because he has never seen a single episode of any of those iconic TV shows. For the actor, some good ol’ cartoons will do just fine.
Speaking with Comic Book Resources, Daniel Radcliffe said when it comes to his TV habits, he veers towards lighter fare and not murders, meth and McNulty. “Honestly, I watch cartoons, and I watch reality TV. I’ve never seen Breaking Bad. I’ve never watched The Sopranos or The Wire. All the sort-of, heavy hour-long stuff. Just, I can’t…”
But Daniel Radcliffe does at least have a good reason for avoiding TV dramas altogether, adding that shows like The Simpsons have a broad cultural appeal and purpose. “I think it does...

Exclusive: Rolin Jones, developer, executive producer and showrunner of Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire, has signed a new multi-year overall with AMC Studios, which is behind the gothic horror drama. This is an encouraging sign for the future of the series, which is currently airing its second season on AMC and AMC+.
As the anchor of AMC’s Anne Rice Immortal Universe with 98% Rotten Tomatoes rating for each of its two seasons to date and the biggest non-Walking Dead universe series in viewership and acquisition on AMC+ in the last year, Interview with the Vampire probably doesn’t need to worry too much about a Season 3 renewal.
Dan McDermott, President of Entertainment and AMC Studios, AMC Networks; and Ben Davis, EVP of scripted programming, AMC Networks and AMC Studios, gave Season 2 high marks in confirming Jones’ new pact.

Vince Gilligan, creator of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, is currently filming a secretive show called Wycaro in Albuquerque. Here’s what we currently know about it.
Having immersed himself for years in the darkly thrilling crime world of Breaking Bad and its spin-off, Better Call Saul, creator Vince Gilligan is making a somewhat different-sounding TV series, this time for Apple TV+. The show, said to be called Wycaro, is currently being kept in a heavily-padded jiffy bag of secrecy – all we know is that it’s set in Albuquerque, much like Breaking Bad, spin-off film El Camino and Better Call Saul, and will star Rhea Seehorn, who played Kim Wexler in the latter.

Bob Odenkirk’s unscrupulous lawyer and con artist Saul Goodman in the blockbuster series Breaking Bad, was an interesting role that got its own spin-off series with the actor as the protagonist. Better Call Saul which worked as a prequel to the Bryan Cranston series, was one of the most popular and critically acclaimed shows that put the actor front and center.

Recently, Jeopardy! host, Ken Jennings, is getting some backlash for some of his dark humor. However, many people are embracing Ken as the official host for the long-running show. Anyone stepping into Alex Trebek’s shoes was taking on a huge feat. However, Ken is doing everything he can to be true to the show. But an insider has information from behind the scenes about Ken and the longevity of his position.
Ken Jennings Shows Dedication To The Job
Undeniably, Ken Jennings had a leg up on the competition. Coming into his hosting job he had previous experience as a top competitor on Jeopardy! Many people have wondered if Ken might be the shoo-in for the new Pop Culture Jeopardy! but others aren’t sure his current gig is stable. Jeopardy! let Mayim Bialik go in December after a trial co-hosting alongside Ken. Undoubtedly, Alex Trebek is a hard-to-follow act after his regrettably cut-short 37 seasons.

It’s always painful to say goodbye to your favorite series, and this pain goes x100 if showrunners manage to maintain the high quality right until the very finale.
Sometimes the last episode of a show can hit you the hardest, much worse than the rest of it.
Here are 5 shows with the most heart-wrenching endings, picked by Reddit.
The Good Place (2016 - 2020) - Whenever You’re Ready
The finale of this fantasy-comedy hit show did it all: it gave closure to all the main characters’ arcs, as well as to the whole story. It didn’t cheat its audience and ended just like it was always supposed to end, leaving the unbearable feeling of the lightness of being behind it. Still, hurts to this day.
Six Feet Under (2001 - 2005) - Everyone's Waiting

Disney’s new Star Wars project, The Acolyte, premiered on Disney+ on June 4, 2024, with two episodes. Despite all the controversies and review bombing, it remains one of the most talked-about shows right now. Critics are generally satisfied, seeing a lot of potential in the series, while fans are divided—some love it, and others hate it. The latter group mostly consists of those who dislike the so-called “woke” content, which seems unreasonable. Regardless of where you stand on that issue, all fans agree that the opening scene was a complete shocker. Showrunner Leslye Headland was asked to explain this surprising moment.
Spoiler alert! For those who haven’t seen it yet, the shocking scene involves the death of Master Indara (played by Carrie-Anne Moss), which happens before the show even starts. She fights Mae but is struck down. Fans worry this might be the last they see of Master Indara,...

Sony’s Wayne Garvie has urged the European industry to echo counterparts in the U.S. by turning TV shows into franchises.
“Once the Americans have a successful returning series they do something we Europeans seem to be incapable of – turn them into franchises,” the boss of The Crown outfit’s international productions said this morning.
Turning to his native UK, Garvie said the local industry has been “brilliant at creating non-scripted franchises but really poor in drama,” floating that Doctor Who, which is co-produced by Sony-owned Bad Wolf, is “the only example I can think of.” In the U.S., on the other hand, he flagged Sony franchises such as Cobra Kai, Breaking Bad and The Boys.
“It is obviously not easy to do and you must start with initial success but once we have that why aren’t we thinking more about how to build that world out?...

Kim Wexler continues to pay dividends for Rhea Seehorn. When Bad Boys: Ride or Die directors Adil and Bilall endured an “emotional rollercoaster” in 2022, they found an escape through their binge-watch of Seehorn’s acclaimed series, Better Call Saul. The two Belgian directors became so taken with her performance as Jimmy McGill’s (Bob Odenkirk) romantic partner in crime that they told themselves that they’d find a role for her to play someday. Well, someday came soon, as they then had a general meeting with her regarding Bad Boys: Ride or Die and the role of U.S. Marshal Judy Howard, the daughter of Joe Pantoliano’s beloved Bad Boys character, Captain Conrad Howard.
“Believe me, there was a part of me that was like, ‘Do they know me from anything?’ But I pretty much assume that of anybody; it wasn’t really specific to them. So I think...

Drive far enough down a deserted highway, and you’ll eventually find spots where the remnants of a civilized society met the unrelenting forces of death, entropy, and decay. Crumbling buildings give way to new ecosystems as Mother Nature takes back the spaces that humanity briefly leased. These abandoned spaces are reminders that there’s nothing we can do on this planet that the universe won’t ultimately undo. Our only choice in the matter is whether we see that as depressing or poetic.
Count Alex Clark (Kai Lennox) among the latter camp. The acclaimed photographer spent much of his youth ripping through the American Southwest in a car by himself, deliberately trying to get lost so that he’d eventually find cool pictures to snap. His photos of decaying buildings earned him his first brushes with fame, and a midlife crisis has now prompted him to try and recreate his original formula for success.

In the long history of the entertainment industry, several incredible TV shows have been made that continue to be watched and loved by fans. Among such TV shows is Bryan Cranston’s Breaking Bad. Starring as the high-school chemistry teacher who goes on to become a ruthless drug kingpin to make ends meet, it was Cranston’s performance that has made the AMC show a timeless classic today.

While viewers curse streaming platforms for canceling shows too early and not giving them another chance, they are just as quick to drop the entire series based on the impressions of the pilot episode. Although understandable, sometimes this logic deprives people of watching some of the best shows.
Here are 8 TV shows that redditors of the r/television subreddit dropped after watching only the pilot, but then picked up and grew to love.
Schitt's Creek (2015-2020)
Like most sitcoms, the pilot was just the writers testing the waters. It set up a backstory, put the characters in their niches, and was released with the hope that the show would hit the right spots for all genre fans. Fortunately, the brilliant cast and the talent of Dan Levy and his father, Eugene Levy, were enough to get the show off the ground.

In January 2020, Adil and Bilall began to ride high. The Belgian directing duo’s American debut, Bad Boys for Life, set a franchise record with $424 million, becoming the highest grossing domestic film of the pandemic-stricken year. That fall, they joined the MCU’s Ms. Marvel and helmed the first two episodes of Kamala Khan’s coming-of-age superhero series. Led by Iman Vellani, the Disney+ show would eventually garner critical acclaim, especially Adil and Bilall’s outings, which added some much-welcomed visual flourishes to Earth-616. Then, in the spring of 2021, the filmmakers extended their hot streak when they signed on to direct the Dceu’s Batgirl for HBO Max. And to top it all off, in May of 2022, their Belgian film, Rebel, premiered at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival to strong reviews.

Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt are two superstars in their own rights. One, a Stranger Things prodigy who recently got married, the other, a Marvel star and an industry veteran who has been seen in his fair share of hilarious roles over the years.

But what happens when the two come together? While that has not happened as of yet, it is about to, in the form of a Netflix movie that also boasts of Anthony and Joe Russo as the two directors. A science fiction thriller set to be released sometime in 2024, The Electric State is set to become one of the most expensive movies ever made, and is set to cost a whopping $320 million.

We’re not entirely sure why, but automotive TV shows usually aren’t very good. Even if you ignore all the different Yelling Goatee Man Garage reality shows, you’re typically better off looking for a good show that happens to also include some cool cars, like Breaking Bad, than watching a show that’s more directly a car show. However, that may change soon with the premiere of Tires on Netflix. As you can see in the trailer below, the show is centered on a character named Shane, played by comedian and incredibly short-lived Saturday Night Live cast member Shane Gillis. Shane works...

The latest news coverage in Hollywood has been more concerned with the resolution or escalation of the conflict between Kevin Costner and Taylor Sheridan. Despite countless interviews and statements, the rumors whispering about Costner’s apparent return (or lack thereof) to Yellowstone have occupied our every waking hour.
But even in the middle of all the chaos, it becomes harder to hide the real reason behind the audience’s fierce attachment and loyalty to the Dutton patriarch.
Yellowstone [Credit: Paramount Network]With an almost sociopathic tendency in his character’s nature and a ruthless moral compass that moves its needle only when he commands it to, Kevin Costner’s terrifying character is quick to capture the audience’s hearts, simply based on historical evidence alone. Shows with characters as instinctively evil as John Dutton have been known to attract a higher percentage of viewers, and this has remained true since the days of The Sopranos.

If there had never been “The Tracey Ullman Show,” there likely would never have been “The Simpsons.” Too, without “Happy Days,” then “Laverne and Shirley” and “Mork and Mindy” would never have seen the light of primetime. Television series spinoffs have been a thing going back to some the earliest days of the medium itself, when “The Honeymooners” premiered in 1955 after beginning life as a series of sketches on “The Jackie Gleason Show” a few years earlier. Thus was born the concept of introducing a character or characters on a show that prove so popular it’s decided they deserve their own series.

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck once appeared in a couple of movies together during the first phase of their relationship. But Kirsten Dunst believed this had an unwanted impact regarding celebrity couples in movies.
How Kirsten Dunst felt ‘Gigli’ affected making movies with her own partner Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez | Christopher Polk/Getty Images
Gigli came out during a particular low-point in Affleck’s career. A few of his movies weren’t doing too well at the time, and his relationship with Lopez was being scrutinized in the media. Gigli didn’t help matters, either. The Martin Best-directed comedy film saw Lopez and Affleck collaborating for the first time. Because of the attention their relationship was generating with the media, some felt this would’ve translated into box-office success.
But the theory couldn’t have been more wrong, and Gigli just opened Affleck and Lopez up to more criticism.

TV's best and most passionate breakdowns are occasionally subtle and often legendary.
They're the culmination of the negative, the positive, or simply the need for upheaval in an otherwise flat character arc -- a self-destruction so piteous as to seem irredeemable.
Sometimes, this act affects others as well.
Naturally, the on-screen breakdown is the culmination of psychological stressors, whether self-induced or brought on by binge-watching The Brady Bunch Variety Hour.
It's often difficult to watch without empathy, especially in characters we've grown to love and even in some we love to hate.
After all, the most intense breakdowns are all too often close to home and personal to the viewers.
It's easier to empathize with Walter White's failure to find the money to pay Saul in Breaking Bad if you've ever misplaced a hundred-dollar bill in the couch cushions.
The closer a TV series parallels real life, the more we can empathize with the characters.

The first two episodes of The Acolyte are now streaming on Disney+, and Lucasfilm's latest live-action Star Wars series certainly starts with a bang. You might even say it slays!
Major spoilers follow.
The premiere begins with mysterious masked warrior Mae (Amandla Stenberg) walking into a cantina and challenging Jedi Master Indara (Carrie -Anne Moss) to a duel. We've seen quite a bit of their ensuing battle in the various trailers and TV spots, but the outcome is sure to come as a shock to many viewers.
Unable to get the better of Indara in a fair fight, Mae resorts to throwing one of her blades at the bartender, and when her Jedi opponent uses the Force to stop the weapon before it strikes, the Dark-side assassin takes advantage of the distraction by flinging another knife into Indara's chest - killing her almost instantly.

A year and a half ago, AMC — the network that brought us Mad Men and Breaking Bad — debuted a new adaptation of Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire. While fans of the Neil Jordan movie and blind casting haters panned the show, the press and real viewers raved about the unexpected hit.
In the show, the immortal vampire recounts his tragic biography to a journalist, sharing his memories of becoming a bloodsucker and his relationship with a close friend. The enthusiastic reception allowed the show to return for a second season, which was intended to cement Interview with the Vampire's status as one of the best and most underrated shows of our time. And it did just that.
So far, four out of eight episodes have aired, and each of the four chapters of the new season has received over 8.0 on IMDb, and the second season's rating on...
