If I'm correctly gaging the Big Brother fan base (and I think I am), Big Brother 9 has been something of a disappointment. These things happen, and I don't blame CBS or Allison Grodner. This season was something of a throw-away from the start, rushed into production thanks to the writers' strike. Since Big Brother was playing with house money (sort of), they decided to experiment with the couples twist. I, like many out there, thought the partners idea was a sound one. Unfortunately, it really mucked up the game play and didn't allow for the usual strategy that Big Brother house guests are used to. Reality show contestants generally base their game play (and overall behavior) on what they've seen on previous seasons. Just look at Survivor – every staple of game play was set during the show's first season. Without history to look back on and facing an entirely different set of rules,...

It really was James' week on Big Brother 9. As if getting the chance to come back into the house mere minutes after being evicted wasn't enough, then he had to go and win Head of Household. Then he won the Power of Veto. Then he wouldn't rest until he discovered who the three people that didn't vote to bring him back were.
Tonight, James' reign came to an end on Big Brother, but not before getting one last moment of total power. Matt cried, Natalie continued to pine over a man she will never get, Sheila continued to play the game well, and we got to catch up on where Big Brother 8 winner Dick Donato and his daughter Daniele are. Unfortunately, the answer isn't “not on my TV screen.”

Now the game gets interesting on Big Brother 9. The house guests are finally playing as individuals. Realistically, it's going to take a week or two to figure out what the new alliances are and to see which house guests will stay aligned with their prescribed partner and who will go off on their own. The big wild card is which evicted house guest will return to the house. For instance, if Jen returns to the house, that gives Ryan both a big advantage and puts a target on his back. I guarantee these power rankings will change drastically by next week once we get a better feel for the new alliances and see who Ryan nominates, but until then this is what I've got.

I have a feeling that Ryan will nominate Sheila, if only because it will be a safe pick. No one likes Sheila, she complains a...
