Destination Marfa filmed a scene at the actual MARFA LIGHTS observatory deck, and while doing so, the Marfa ghost lights were visible under the Black Texas sky all night. The skies in that part of Texas are known for being some of the best in the United States for astronomy observation due to the low population.
While filming the last scene, the production locked down the City of Lockney's Ambulance for 48 hours, taking the risk of jeopardizing continuity should the ambulance be called out to a real incident. Luckily, this never happened.
Tony Todd requested that his wardrobe be sent to him before coming to Texas to film. On the first day of filming, Tony showed up with 2 left shoes, which normally would be no big deal, except Tony wears a size 15 double wide. It's obvious you don't find that just anywhere. 14 stores later...Cara Togliatti solved the issue at a second hand store and filming commenced. Pressure then, funny now.
On the night before filming on Day 5, the film's DIT was hit by a car who then stopped to help, which ultimately saved his life. Early the next morning, the film production team flew in a replacement DIT from the East Coast. The DIT remained in a Lubbock hospital for 8 weeks after filming in order to gain stability to be transported home. He has recovered and is back to walking and working again.
The montage of the film shows the 4 exploring a hotel room that has a hat e.t.c.. This is the actual room that James Dean stayed in for months while filming his final film "GIANT."
