- After The Citizen prints an explosive story, Iris's life is threatened. Refusing to hide from those that are attacking her, Iris sets out to expose a dangerous organization. Meanwhile, Barry must face the consequences of the Crisis and fulfill Oliver Queen's wish for him.
- Jitters reopens at CCJitters, and terrorists attack it. Flash speeds there from STAR Labs, while the barista points out that they just reopened and there's no money to steal. The hero speeds in as the leader opens fire, and he gets customers out of the way as a light fixture comes down. Flash apologizes for being late and everyone applauds him.
Back at STAR Labs, Cisco tells only one Earth survived Crisis. He points out that they're entire timeline has been rewritten with all of the heroes living on Earth. Cisco tells Caitlin/Frost that not a single one their villains survived, but there are dozens of others on Earth they've never fought before. Some of their old villains are back as well like The Top and Rainbow Raider.
Nash pounds on a closet door and threatens to break out. Cisco releases him and Nash falls on the floor. He demands the Crypto circuit Cisco agreed to give him in return for fixing the pipes. Cisco suggests that Nash goes exploring somewhere, but Nash isn't interested, and plans to run tests on his dig sites to make sure that no one accidentally reopens the anti-matter universe. Cisco insists that he's run tests and the cave is staying shut, but Nash isn't convinced and leaves with his circuit.
At their apartment, Iris is checking her news story on Flash surviving Crisis. Barry arrives with Diggle, who says that Lyla has accepted a new posting and they're moving to Metropolis. He says that Oliver left him something for Barry: Oliver's original mask that Barry made for him. Diggle notes that Oliver wasn't given to sentiment, and Barry notices a mark above the left eye and figures Oliver left it as a warning. Iris gets a text and says she has to meet a source, and Barry asks Diggle if he's going to stick around to work on the mystery.
Iris goes to a parking lot and meets with her contact, Gene Huskk, who asks if she was followed. Iris assures him that she wasn't and shows him a photo of the Maelstrom logo. Huskk says that he has worked for McCulloch Industries, and then Malcolm Strombard showed up and said he was promoted into their research group. Strombard had no technical knowledge, and one night Huskk found Strombard with the infrared proton rifle they had been developing. Strombard and the rifle vanished the next day, and McCulloch fired Huskk when he objected.
Iris says that Maelstrom killed Strombard, and says that she needs someone like Huskk to bring Maelstrom out of the shadows. Huskk warns that it won't be easy.
A woman comes after a man in a storeroom. He insists that he didn't talk, but the woman shoots him with a laser-like energy rifle, charring him into a mass of charcoal.
Huskk says that the organization of killers calls itself Black Hole.
The killer makes a call and says that she made the delivery, and her superiors send her at her next target: Allegra.
The next day at the Citizen offices, Iris, Allegra, Cecile, and Kamila go over Iris' plotting of Maelstrom. They've worked out that Black Hole has been abducting and training metahumans like Esperanza, and they're involved in international arms deals. Iris explains that Joe can't officially launch an investigate, and Cecile warns them that running the story is a mistake. Iris is willing to take the risk McCulloch will sue her for defamation, but she and the others refuse to walk away from the truth. Cecile drops the matter, and Iris says that she's meeting with McCulloch's CEO, Joseph Carver, but they're going to run the story regardless of his comments.
Barry gathers equipment from the crime lab to scan the mask. He finds sediment traces on the mask, like from Lian Yu, along with traces of Mirakuru. Diggle says that Oliver always thought there might be Mirakuru left on the island, and Barry figures that Oliver wanted him to find the stash. He offers to run Diggle there, and Diggle takes some motion sickness pills.
At McCulloch, Joseph talks to Iris about how his wife Eva wanted him to maintain a personal touch with the company. Iris notes that one of his rifles is associated with Maelstrom, and Joseph talks to Iris privately. They go into a secure area and Carver figures that Iris' contact was Huskk and goes to get a file. When Carver returns, he says that Obsidian Tech tried to steal one of their prototypes. Huskk developed paranoia and thought there was a greater conspiracy, and Carver let him go. Carver assures Iris that they're implementing a new security program. Iris figures that there's still a story there, and Carver says that he does everything in Eva's honor to protect her legacy. He asks her not to run the story for fear of what it will do to McCulloch, and Iris says that she has an obligation to the truth. Iris insists the public needs to be informed before someone else gets hurt, and tells Carver that she's running the story whether he comments or not.
Back at the Citizen, the team note all the hits they got on their McCulloch story. Cecile arrives and says that McCulloch is suing the Citizen for defamation. Across the street, the killer prepares to shoot. Cecile picks up her feelings empathically and tells everyone to get down. A bullet hits the wall opposite the window, and the burn spreads across the wall where the bullet impacted.
Iris says that the others should get to STAR Lab while she escapes via Nash's tunnels and makes sure Huskk is safe. The other three women run out as the killer shoots them, and Kamilla takes a photo of the gravitational mass.
At STAR Labs, Cisco tries to reach Barry on the radio when Kamilla and Allegra arrive. Kamilla shows Cisco the burn patterns, and Cisco explains that the extrapolators don't work with the physics of the new Earth. Nash comes in and confirms that Allegra is okay. He complains that Cisco didn't tell him the women were in danger, and Cisco says that he isn't part of the team. Cisco figures that Nash wants help, and Nash notes that he helped as Parish and stopped the Anti-Monitor. Furious, Cisco points out that billions of people died, including an infinite number of Welles, and they're stuck with the one who killed the multiverse.
Once Nash leaves, Kamilla asks Cisco what his outburst was about, and Cisco says that he wants to make sure they learn from their mistakes. He tells Allegra and Kamilla that they need to find Maelstrom before Black Hole kills Iris.
Iris meets with Huskk, who says that Black Hole isn't what they think. The killer shoots him in the chest, and Huskk says "Mirror" before he's turned into charcoal. Iris takes cover and the killer steps out of the shadows looking for her. The reporter grabs a flash drive and McCulloch ID badge that Huskk was holding, then gets in her SUV and drives backward. The killer jumps out of the way and fires, but only hits the rear window as Iris drives off.
Iris goes to STAR Labs and says that Huskk is dead, and asks for the binder Cisco has put together of metas. She finds a photo of the killer, Dr. Kimoyo Hoshi: Dr. Light. Cisco confirms that Hoshi went missing four years ago, and has the power to fuel starlight. Her powers aren't precise enough to do the damage they've seen, and Kamilla suggests that she's using the photon rifle to focus her starlight powers. Iris takes out the flash drive, and then collapses from injuries from Light's last shot.
On Lian Yu, Barry and Diggle check out the underground bunker. They find a container but there's no Mirakuru inside. Barry figures the mask is a warning, and Diggle suggests the mask was just a gift. Undeterred, Barry insists that there must be more and he has to finish what Olive started. His hand glows briefly with Speed Force, and Barry gets control of his emotions. Diggle says that Oliver and Thea came to the island and faced off against Deathstroke. Oliver brought his mask with him, which is why the mask has island sentiment and Mirakuru on it. Diggle says that Barry is looking for a mission that doesn't exist, and life is more than a mission. He notes that Oliver learned that lesson too late, and he died so the people he loved could live theirs.
Diggle: Oliver died for more than this Earth's survival. Oliver laid down his life so the people he loved could live theirs.
At STAR Labs, Caitlin checks on Cisco and finds him watching a hologram of Harry doing one of his experiments. Cisco says that Harry was regaining his intelligence, but Earth-2 was wiped out. He wonders if he could have sensed the anti-matter wave as Vibe and saved Earth-2. Caitlin asks if he regrets taking the metahuman cure or being Vibe. Cisco tells her that it isn't that simple, but then admits he doesn't know. Caitlin suggests that they need someone who remembers the difference between the way Earth was and the way Earth is... and Cisco is the way for the job. She suggests that being away from Central City will give him a chance to figure out who he wants to be in the post-Crisis world, and Cisco concedes the possibility.
Joe arrives at STAR Labs and asks Iris what was she was doing. He points out that he has no evidence against Black Hole, and Iris says that she has to honor Huskk by revealing Maelstrom. Joe insists that he doesn't expect her to give up, but warns that she can't solve the case in a day. He notes that they have time because Crisis is over, and Iris wonders how she's supposed to fight Maelstrom. Joe asks if Huskk told anyone else about Black Hole. Iris figures that he didn't, but then remembers that someone else did know as she sees a newscast of Carver giving a press conference later that day.
That night, Carver calls Light, who says that she never misses twice. She's inside the West house, and shoots Iris as Joe goes to get some water. After a moment, the hologram of Iris disappears. Joe and Frost come out and Joe tells Light to drop the weapon. Meanwhile, at STAR Labs Kamilla removes the hologram projector and Cisco watches the news from McCulloch.
At McCulloch, Iris confronts Carver and says that he gave her evidence that he's using an assassin. The microchip Huskk had is the same one inside of the photon rifle, and it reflects ultraviolet radiation. The same chip is inside of McCulloch ID badges, and Iris notes that McCulloch has been using the technology for years while abducting metas with light-based powers. She figures Strombard obtained the rifle before it went to market, and then Carver gave it to Light: Carver's personal assassin. Iris figures that Carver is Black Hole, and he's been using McCulloch to back Maelstrom. Carver figures Iris doesn't have the whole story.
Light grabs a platter, throws it at Joe, and fires her rifle at Frost, hitting her in the shoulder.
Iris says that she won't let McCulloch help anyone. If she or anyone connected with her dies, she's rigged a dead man's switch that will release all of the information she has on Black Hole.
Light advances on the injured Frost, who pulls the light bullet out of her shoulder. Light aims for Frost's head.
Iris tells McCulloch to have Light stand down. He calls Light and tells her to cancel the kill. Light tells Frost that she follows orders and leaves.
The reporters approach McCulloch, who says that he's dropping the lawsuit against the Citizen. Iris smiles and leaves.
Later at STAR Labs, Nash arrives in response to Cisco's invitation. Cisco says that he is going to go suss out any new threats in Earth-Prime, and he asks Nash to hold down the fort at STAR Labs. Nash figures that it's a trick, but Cisco says that he's extending a peace offering. He admits that he took out his anger over Crisis on Nash, and asks Nash not to break anything. Nash jokingly says that he'll break everything, and as Cisco goes he tells Nash that he hopes he finds what he's looking for. Once he's alone, Nash takes out a photo of himself and Allegra's doppelganger and looks at it.
At the apartment, Barry tells Iris that he thought Oliver left him the mask as a reminder to keep fighting. He forgot that he made the mask so Oliver would remember to protect the people he loved. Oliver left him the mask so he'd take his own advice. Iris admits that she's been trying to live every day like it was her last, but now Crisis is over and Barry didn't die. They figure that she forgot to slow down, and agree that they should just take the night easy.
Later, Iris looks at a mirror and remembers Huskk's last word. She writes down "Eva" in a mirror and looks up articles on Eva's death. She then leaves with the badge and goes to McCulloch. On Level 10 where the badge belongs, Iris lets herself in using the chip from the badge, and inside finds a room with cloth-covered furniture. Pulling one cloth away, Iris finds a desk and takes photos of what's one the desk. She finds a computer monitor and turns it on, and it brings up strings of data.
Continuing her search, Iris finds a giant mirror on the wall. She wonders what Eva was up and arms reach out from the mirror, grab Iris, and pull her into the reflective surface.
