When lead singer Peter Gabriel left Genesis in 1975, Phil Collins was "between gigs" and became Brand X's drummer as they formed. Collins was by far their most famous member and played on and off with Brand X between 1975 and 1979, often eclipsing the rest of the band, as his own popularity as a pop star was beginning to rise; he'd also famously returned to Genesis as their front man and singer, riding both bands often simultaneously.
