Sanaa Hamri, executive producer and director of the Prime Video fantasy series “The Wheel of Time,” feels like she’s just getting started.
The Moroccan-born filmmaker began her career in the late 1990s directing music videos for artists such as Prince, Mariah Carey, Sting and Nicki Minaj. She transitioned to television in the mid-2000s, directing episodes of “Desperate Housewives,” “Glee,” and “Nashville.” Hamri made her feature directorial debut in 2006 with the romantic comedy “Something New” for Focus Features. She has since directed the hit 2008 sequel “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2” for Warner Bros. and the romantic comedy “Just Wright” for Searchlight in 2010.
With an overall deal with Amazon Prime Video, she’s on the Primetime Emmy Awards ballot for directing “The Wheel of Time” episode “What Was Meant to Be.” The second season finale follows Rand al’Thor (Josha Stradowski) and others to an inevitable showdown with their most formidable enemies yet.

Actress Lucy Hale ("Pretty Little Liars") poses for Dutch lingerie brand Hunkemöller, photographed by David Roemer:
"I'm at this place in my life where I accept all parts of me, not just the good parts," said Hale.
"The good, the bad and the 'ugly'. And so to feel empowered in something that is vulnerable like lingerie, that is special to me.
"To be here, shooting pieces that I had a hand in designing and actually wearing them, that just shows I have come a long way and I hope that’s apparent through all of it – the collection, the imagery, the video..."
Hale first co-starred as 'Becca Sommers' in the TV series "Bionic Woman" (2007) and as 'Rose Baker' in the series "Privileged" (2008–2009). Her breakthrough role was 'Aria Montgomery' in the Freeform TV series "Pretty Little Liars" (2010–2017) followed by playing 'Stella Abbott' in "Life Sentence" (2018) and as the "Archie" Comics character "Katy Keene" (2020).

Vertical Entertainment has signed a deal with Mister Smith Entertainment for North American distribution rights to romantic comedy “The Hating Game,” which stars “Pretty Little Liars” actor Lucy Hale and Austin Stowell, who also appeared with her in “Fantasy Island.” Vertical is planning to give it a theatrical release later this year.
“The Hating Game,” which is based on the hit novel by Sally Thorne, tells the story of kind-hearted Lucy Hutton (Hale) and her cold, efficient nemesis Joshua Templeton (Stowell). Movies New to Netflix in April: ‘Burning,’ ‘American Honey,’ and Extended Version of ‘Hateful Eight’
Netflix might be skipping this year’s Cannes Film Festival, but the streaming giant is offering a bit of a mea culpa in its April offerings, which come with some exciting options from bonafide auteurs who also happen to be Cannes regulars, including Lee Chang-Dong, Andrea Arnold, and Quentin Tarantino. Ken Loach’s Palme d’Or winner “I, Daniel Blake” will also join Netflix’s ranks next month, along with classics like “All the President’s Men,” “Bonnie and Clyde,” and “Deliverance.”
In April, Netflix will add Lee’s lauded Cannes competitor “Burning,” which missed out on Oscar love but picked up plenty of other accolades during last year’s awards circuit, including a number of nods for star Steven Yeun. It will be joined by Arnold’s 2016 Palme d’Or entry “American Honey,” along with an extended version of Tarantino’s “The Hateful Eight”.

Blake Lively has a problem as old as the patriarchy that created it: When you’re nothing if not a beautiful woman, you’re nothing if not a beautiful woman. So when Lively became a star after winning the role of it girl Serena van der Woodsen on the CW’s soapy and hyper-sexualized “Gossip Girl,” it was easy for viewers to chisel her down to the most obvious of her charms.
At that nascent stage of Lively’s career — after “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants,” but before “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2” — it was easy for audiences to conflate her with the character she played on television. Born into an affluent family that already had both feet planted in showbiz, Lively’s first screen credit was in a low-budget film that her father directed, and she landed her first Hollywood part after her brother asked his...

Growing up in the early 2000’s, it was near impossible to avoid hearing someone talk about The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Blake Lively hilariously edited her Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants costar America Ferrera into a throwback photo with fellow castmates and close pals Amber Tamblyn and Alexis Bledel.
In the snap, Lively, 29, is seen hugging Tamblyn and Bledel alongside a silly blue-and-red drawing of Ferrera with a heart-shaped head.

Lucy Hale is beginning a new chapter of her life in a very big way: she has stopped drinking.
In an interview with Byrdie, the Pretty Little Liars actress says the decision came after years of struggling to fit in with the Hollywood “it crowd.”
“I’m just always trying to surround myself with better people and be the best version of myself possible,” she says. “I know it sounds obnoxious to hear people say that, but why not?”

Lucy Hale also appeared in Scream 4 and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2.

Blake Lively's got her hands full these days with her and Ryan Reynolds' newborn baby girl, but she could never be too busy for her Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants gals....could she? At Monday's Oscar luncheon at the Beverly Hilton, her co-star America Ferrera teased a possible onscreen reunion with the new mama, telling E! News' Ali Fedotwsky that a third Sisterhood movie is "definitely in the works!" This, of course, would be a follow-up to the 2005 movie and 2008's The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2. The sisterhood couldn't truly be complete, though, without all four girls: America, Blake, Alexis Bledel and Amber Tamblyn. There's no official word yet on...

Lynch even tweeted a new photo of MacLachlan as Agent Cooper holding a “damn fine” cup of coffee. Here’s the official press release (via Collider) and photo (via David Lynch):

Last week, it was announced that Patton Oswalt, who hass appeared on such series as CBS’s Two and a Half Men, Fox’s Raising Hope and Showtime’s United States of Tara, will guest star on the upcoming season of FX’s Justified. He will play a former high school classmate of Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant).
Great guest spots are one of my favorite aspects of television. The occurrence can combine an actor and a show that are perfect for one another — even if it’s just temporarily. It can also draw viewers to a show they haven’t checked out yet, possibly giving a struggling series a boost in ratings. Some of my favorite recent moments on series have incorporated fantastic guest stars, including Parker Posey on FX’s Louie and Fox’s New Girl, Giancarlo Esposito on NBC’s Community and...

On Wednesday, The Help debuted to an estimated $5.5 million on approximately 3,100 screens at 2,511 locations, claiming first place for the day over Rise of the Planet of the Apes' $4.9 million. It's not unprecedented for a female-driven drama to make a splash in August, especially one based on a popular book. Julie & Julia and Eat Pray Love saw opening weekends of $20.1 million and $23.1 million, respectively, though they had traditional Friday launches. The Help's marketing campaign has been in full swing for weeks, promoting the movie as a feel-good ensemble comedy-drama, but the book's branding has been the star. Three recent younger-skewing female-driven August movies fared better than The Help in their Wednesday launches, though two were sequels and one was a remake. In 2008, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 had a $5.7 million Wednesday that resulted in a $10.7 million weekend (for $19.6 million in five days). In 2004, The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement nabbed an $8.5 million Wednesday,...

The Hollywood mantra: may no potential brand name go unsequelized, unrebooted, untouched. Where there's a whiff of franchise opportunity, studios go sniffing.
So it's not really a surprise to hear that Ridley Scott's 1982 sci-fi noir classic "Blade Runner" is back in the spotlight with talks of spin-offs and continuations.
A press release announces that Alcon Entertainment, the brains behind "The Blind Side," "The Book of Eli," "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2," The Nic Cage "Wicker Man" remake and "My Dog Skip," have picked up the sequel/prequel/do-whatever-you-want rights to the aforementioned cinematic classic. Sounds up their alley, right?
Now - the gut reaction is "How Could They?!" but we're an understanding group of moviegoers and, perhaps, there could be some good here. Maybe.
For years, talk of a "Blade Runner" sequel was on the tip of many a tongue, but nothing ever came of it until Alcon's announcement this week.

It's said, possibly apocryphally (which is a fancy way of saying that it's a clever lie about the past), that when William Gibson saw Blade Runner in the theater, he left halfway through and had a nervous breakdown in the street because the images he saw on the screen were the same as the ones he was seeing in his head while writing the half-finished Neuromancer. Somehow I doubt that he'd have the same reaction to whatever comes out the recent rumors of a remake/reboot/TV series/game show/tentacle fest that is currently in the works for Blade Runner.
Alcon Entertainment is in final talks to acquire the "film, television and ancillary franchise rights to produce prequels and sequels." That doesn't sound terrible at face value, it really doesn't sound like anything. What does Alcon have to say?

This is General Hospital‘s James Franco, We Are Marshall‘s Kate Mara and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2‘s Amber Tamblyn in Slumdog Chamillionaire Danny Boyle’s new film, 127 Hours, based on Real Life’s story. Eeep. If you know what happened to Aron Ralston (James Franco’s character) it’s not pretty. But it’s not insanely ugly either. Blake Lively has been alleged to have threatened to ditch The CW's "Gossip Girl". Heat magazine recently came up with a story that the 22-year-old actress has grown tired of the constant arguments behind the scenes, and has requested to be given a dramatic exit from the popular teen drama series.
"Blake has asked producers to kill off her character. She's tired of working on the show," so claimed a source. "It was great at the beginning, but she's started to get bored of her story lines and all the petty fights on set. Nearly all the cast members have had some kind of bust-up. Besides the fact that she gets to work with her boyfriend [Penn Badgley], Blake wants to leave."
Not stopping there, the source elaborated that the "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2" star has made request for her character to be given a "dramatic exit" from the show.

Just Wright is a rarity: An awful movie that I really, really don't want to pan. It'd be like booing a junior-high production of Oklahoma. Just Wright is hopped up on so much earnestness that my critical faculties have been neutralized. If someone slaved over a stove to make you soufflé, you don't tell them that you hate soufflé and throw it back in their face. You pretend to eat it with a smile on your face while feeding it to the dog under the table. That's how I feel about Just Wright.. Only an achingly thin-skinned person could've written this movie (Michael Eliot), and I don't want to hurt his feelings.
Queen Latifah stars as Leslie Wright, a physical therapist who is perpetually stuck in the friend zone. She's a "homegirl." Guys like to hang out with her, they just don't want to bone her. Meanwhile, her gorgeous but shallow God-sister and roommate,...

Finally! A movie than combines all the gender bashing of terrible TV commercials and awful sitcoms -- in which manipulative women must crack the whip on their manchild husbands -- with the repulsive wedding porn of every other romantic comedy of recent years. It’s all your cheap, easy “entertainment” needs in one movie. When Hispanic America Ferrera (The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2) and black Lance Gross (Tyler Perry’s Meet the Browns) drop a bomb on their parents -- surprise! they’re getting married! in two weeks! and no caterer, dressmaker, or clergyman laughs in their faces at such a fantastical timeline! -- all juvenile hell breaks loose as their dads (respectively, Carlos Mencia [The Heartbreak Kid] and Forest Whitaker [Where the Wild Things Are]) take up a sort of warfare in crosscultural dick measuring: who can be the most bigoted, the most insulting, the most childishly repulsive before the movie must shift gears and...

First, there's the fact that society has ghettoized a vast lot of movies with a female protagonist under this lovely namesake that instantly implies shallow frivolity, artlessness, and utter commercialism. Secondly, there's the fact that many movies labeled as such do, indeed, deserve to be ghettoized, condemned to the celluloid wasteland, mocked by film students and scholars. Case in point, last weekend's box-office winner, Dear John.
But not all chick flicks need suck. This weekend, there's even hope for a non-sucky one in Valentine's Day (hope being the operative word). With that hope in our hearts, we offer up 10 Chick Flicks That Don't Totally Suck. Heck, many don't even suck at all.
