There’s nothing quite like when HBO is airing one of its trademark watercooler-worthy dramas weekly. Thankfully, we’ll get to it experience exactly that and more on HBO Max in March 2023.
The big ticket item on HBO Max this March is undoubtedly Succession Season 4 on March 26. Part prestige drama and part screwball comedy, Succession is about as fun a watch as they come. Season 4 of the series about egregious wealth will find the Roy siblings reeling after trying and failing to take down their father, Logan (Brian Cox).
HBO Max’s other major TV option this month is another weekly release from HBO. Matthew Rhys returns as the titular lawyer in Perry Mason Season 2 on March 6. Season 1 of this period piece reboot flexed the classic TV character’s detective skills. From the look of the trailer, it seems as though this is the year Perry makes his name in the court room.

Yasiin Bey, the musician formerly known as Mos Def, will portray jazz piano legend Thelonious Monk in the biopic “Thelonious,” which is slated to begin production in the summer of 2022. The project is being brought to the screen by Jupiter Rising Film and its co-founders, Alberto Marzan and Peter Lord Moreland.
Moreland will also write the screenplay for the film, which “will center around [Monk’s] struggles for musical success, mental illness and the spiritual love triangle between his wife Nellie and one of the world’s richest women, Nica Rothschild,” according to a statement.
“This role is one that requires great depth and a unique understanding of who and what Thelonious Monk was and how his lasting impact can still be heard throughout the music world today,” said Marzan. “The moment I met Yasiin, I knew we found our Thelonious. November can be a slow month for streaming services. Amazon, however, is entering into 2020’s penultimate month with some steam.
Amazon is really beefing up its TV library in November 2020. Both Community (which arrives on Nov. 8) and Scrubs (Nov. 14) will be added to Amazon Prime this month and in the process complete the streaming trifecta: Netflix, Amazon, Hulu. That’s pretty impressive stuff for both shows. And then on the film side of things, November 1 sees the arrival of The X-Files: I Want to Believe, Twilight, and the Underworld franchise. Somebody didn’t tell Amazon Spooky Season was over and bless them for it.
As for the originals, Alex Rider is the most intriguing TV series here. That is based on the British spy novel series and premieres on Nov. 13 on IMDb TV (which is available to all Prime subscribers). That will be followed by Steve McQueen’s Small Axe series on Nov.

All streaming services go through a down period after the excitement of Spooky Season, it’s only natural. Thankfully with its list of new releases for November 2020, Hulu is making the best out of a barren pop culture landscape.
For starters, Hulu is premiering one of its major 2020 reboots this month as Animaniacs arrives on Nov. 20. Yakko, Wakko, Dot, and the rest of the Warner gang are set to return for this long-awaited revival of the animated classic. That’s about it as far as original series go but Hulu is also premiering original movies Greta, about climate activist Greta Thunberg on Nov. 13; and Run, a horror film starring Sarah Paulson, on Nov. 20.
Still, despite all the Animaniacs, Gretas, and Sarah Paulsons, the biggest hits this month might just be on the library content side of things. November 1 sees the arrival of some major TV properties. For starters, racy British...

Hulu has released its list of content arriving at the streaming service this June, as well as everything that will no longer be available to watch there after June 30.
At the top of the must-watch list is season three of Hulu Original “The Handmaid’s Tale,” which was notably pushed back to a June premiere date in order to ensure it would “maintain the quality it has,” Craig Erwich, Hulu’s Senior Vice President of Originals, said at the Television Critics Association (TCA) press tour in February. The first three episodes of the new season premiere on Hulu June 5, after which new episodes will be released every Wednesday.
Another Hulu Original of note is “The Weekly” series from The New York Times, coming June 3. Each half-hour episode will feature a Times journalist investigating one of today’s most pressing issues, with new issues being explored each week.

Welcome to this week’s “Preview Reel” column, where we look at the week’s upcoming wide release movies. Last week saw Tom Cruise and The Mummy stumble with a disappointing $30 million opening, while Wonder Woman continued to show her muscle with one of the best holds for a blockbuster ever. This week features a very crowded marketplace as four new releases hit the screen. There seems to be something for everyone as Pixar revs their engines with Cars 3, Tupac gets a biopic with All Eyez on Me, Scarlett Johansson’s bachelorette party goes terribly wrong in Rough Night, and Many Moore fights sharks in 47 Meters Down. Let’s see which one of these is the right movie for you.

So I reckon you done waited too long. Probably distracted by Fallout 4 or trolling each other on whether or not Star Wars: The Force Awakens was good to get Holiday presents. I mean, sure, it mirrored A New Hope just a little bit but come on...it isn't like Star Wars is going to be some under-the-radar indie hit. They have to wait for those Anthology movies to come out! Wait, they aren't calling it that anymore. Oh well! Where were we? Oh yes. Procrastination! Funny how that works out, no? My guess is that you probably just gave up on shopping at this point, but worry not, we still get you what you need! Unfortunately, it may be a bit pricey and you'll have to go with a 2nd Day or Next Day Air options through Ups but guess what? We can still get you stuff! Sorry about it being pricey.

Barring fleeting cameo roles in both 2009’s Notorious and this year’s excellent Straight Outta Compton, rap legend Tupac Shakur is still to be the center of attention in a feature film.

Colin Farrell's "Swat" film grossed over $200 million worldwide on a $80 million budget when it hit theaters back in 2003. That was enough to merit a straight-to-dvd sequel, called "Swat: Firefight," for which we now have a trailer. Check it out below. Plot: The story revolves around an insidious and unstoppable villain (Robert Patrick), determined to exact his revenge on the new, hot-shot instructor (Gabriel Macht) of Detroit's most elite crime fighting team. The new movie is directed by Benny Boom (Next Day Air) and co-stars Kristanna Loken (Terminator 3). It is scheduled to hit stores on DVD and Blu-ray on March 1st. Trailer: If you cannot see the player, click here.

We’ve got our hands on a new, longer trailer for the upcoming alien invasion movie Skyline, which we told you about back in August.
The film, which is being released by Universal Pictures in November, stars Donald Faison, Eric Balfour, and Scottie Thompson, as a group of friends who are awoken after a late night party, by an eerie beam of light, as it draws other people to it, like moths to a flame, before they suddenly vanish into thin air. They soon discover an otherworldly force is swallowing the entire human population off the face of the earth. And now our band of survivors must fight for their lives as the world unravels around them.
Brothers Colin Strause & Greg Strause both co-directed the film; their last effort was 2007’s Avpr: Aliens vs Predator – Requiem, which I didn’t see.
Skyline reportedly was not financed by a studio. The...

Oh-oh – it’s another alien invasion movie folks! This one’s called Skyline, and is being released by Universal Pictures in November. It stars Donald Faison, Eric Balfour, and Scottie Thompson. So there I was reading This Slant writer’s evisceration of Armond White’s negative review of Toy Story 3, which led me to This chart someone created, comparing the movies Armond White panned to those he praised, where I was surprised to find out that Shadow & Act’s favorite African American film critic actually once praised a Tyler Perry work! But maybe I shouldn’t be surprised… he is Armond White, noted contrarian, even though he himself has stated, in his defense, “I don’t say these things to call attention to myself or to get a rise out of people. I say them because I believe them.”
Question is whether you believe him… or maybe you really just don’t give a rat’s-ass about this pugilist and his polemics.
Well, if anything, he’s entertaining! At least, I find him so. He’s somehow managed to demand...
