- It is the year 199X and nuclear war has ravaged the world. Society has collapsed, leaving the weak to fight for their lives while the strong take what they please. The Zeed gang is looting villages and killing anyone that they find, not even women and children are safe. But, from the wasteland a mysterious stranger appears, to protect those that cannot protect themselves.—HokutoDisciple
- The year is 199X. A nuclear explosion is shown as the narrator explains that the entire earth has been ravaged by nuclear war. the camera pans over views of the wreckage of major cities including New York, Paris, and London before the sun fills the screen.
The sky is shown before the camera pans out again to show more images of the the wasteland that the earth has become. The narrator begins to speak again, "The oceans have dried up. The land has been torn apart. It is a world in which no living thing seems to be left."
A gang of men on motorcycles rides through the desert leaving behind an enormous cloud of dust in their wake. They all have the letter Z tattooed on the left side of their foreheads. The narrator continues, "However, mankind hasn't died."
A truck carrying a cow in it's bed is shown driving through the desert. The camera cuts closer to the truck showing that it is carrying three men, a woman, and supplies. The gang of men from before is now on top of a ridge looking down on the truck, armed with a variety of clubs and bladed weapons. A man with Z-666 tattooed on his forehead gestures towards the truck with a grunt, and the men jump their motorcycles off the ridge screaming and brandishing their weapons.
Two of the men in the truck yell that Zeed is coming and the woman yells to go faster. The driver tells her that their going as fast as they can while the camera moves back to show Zeed (The man with the Z-666 tattoo) and his men gaining on them. The bikers begin to shoot arrows from handlebar mounted launchers, killing the driver. The woman takes the wheel as Zeed rides up alongside her. He laughs before throwing a hand axe at the wheels of the truck, causing it to veer uncontrollably before falling onto it's side.
Zeed walks up to the vehicle as it's wheels stop spinning. Supplies along with the two remaining men are strewed around the wreckage. The woman is shown lifting a gas can. She turns around, and upon seeing Zeed runs away. He holds out his hand and grunts at one of his men. The camera cuts back to the woman running before returning to Zeed, now holding a bow, as he fires an arrow at her. She is struck in the back and falls with a scream.
Zeed is shown drinking from the can, which was full of water, while his men attempt to repair the vehicle and search through the supplies it was carrying. The men laugh as they find clothes and carry off the now dead cow. Zeed opens a suitcase full of money calling it crap, while one his men remarks that it is not worth anything anymore. Zeed stands up holding the case above his head as all of the money is blown into the wind.
As the money breezes past the men, the screen pauses on the wreckage and the narrator returns. "Nuclear war has destroyed all of human civilization. The world has been plunged into an age of chaos and terror ruled by violence."
The camera once again cuts to the sun and pans down to show a figure walking through the desert. As the camera gets closer the figure is revealed to be a brown-haired man in a tattered cloak. His lips are chapped and he is panting with exhaustion as he walks. the man is shown digging into the ground with his hands, he picks up sand and lets it fall back out between his fingers. Sweat is shown running off his head as he stares up into the sun. He falls down onto his chest with his head looking to the side at a bull's skull. A hand tears out of the ground from under the skull. The camera cuts to show the full body of the man who came from the ground, standing and laughing evilly. He has blond hair and purple clothes. The brown-haired man opens his eyes with a start, and the skull is in one piece again. He pushes himself up with his hands and looks up at the sky. A red haired woman's face is smiling down at him from above. The woman is transparent as if she is a memory. The man says her name "Yuria" before standing again and continuing to walk.
The man walks through an abandoned town towards a jeep that members of Zeed's gang are sitting in. They laugh as he approaches. The man walks by them without acknowledging their presence. They continue to laugh as they start the car and begin chasing him. One of the Gang members has a lasso that he manages to throw over the brown-haired man and tighten around his feet. They laugh as they continue driving and he is dragged behind the car on his back. The brown-haired man's eyes glow and he begins to yell as the camera cuts to Zeed's camp.
Men are shown eating and drinking by a fire as a member of the gang rides up on a motorcycle yelling that they've got trouble. Zeed asks what happened before the camera cuts again. Zeed is now looking over the corpses of the men from before asking who did this. One of his men notices that one of the bodies has it's rib cage burst out from the inside. Another man finds a survivor. Zeed asks the survivor what happened. The man says Hokuto before the back of his head lengthens and bursts. Zeed's men panic and one of them mentions that it was almost like the man had a time-bomb in him. Zeed says "No. A weapon that sophisticated shouldn't exist anymore. Who did this? what did he mean by Hokuto?"
Another town is shown with pleasant music playing. A young girl carrying a bucket runs past a group of tomato plants towards a man holding a spear who is sleeping next to a well. He wakes up as she approaches. The man calls her Lin and tells her that they don't have any water for her dog. She kisses his cheek and he relents saying she can have just a little. She smiles and a white puppy is shown drinking from a bowl. Lin also feeds him a piece of food from her hand before picking up her bucket of water and beginning to throw water on the tomatoes.
A man is heard yelling about a thief, and a group of men are shown holding an adolescent boy by his arms. They accuse him of trying to steal their potatoes for the fourth time, and call him Bat as they threaten to hang him. Bat begins to struggle as Lin runs up with her dog. Bat threatens to haunt the men and they decide to lock him up. Bat offers to make up for it and begins to play a harmonica while dancing along. He does a back-flip while playing which earns applause from Lin before he says that he is too hungry and falls onto his back.
A man yells that they have another one, as the brown-haired man from before tries to draw water from the well. The men go over to the well, while Bat tries to escape. He is immediately grabbed by one of the men. The bucket from the well is seen being pulled up before it suddenly hits the top of the well and the camera cuts to the brown-haired man falling onto his face. He gasps and pulls himself onto his elbows. He asks for water and Lin is shown looking at him.
Two men and Lin stand outside of a jail cell as the gate closes. The brown-haired man is laying face-down on the ground. One of the men tells Lin to keep an eye on the prisoners as both men begin to walk away. Bat is shown sitting against the wall, telling the brown-haired man that he screwed up before spitting on the ground. Lin puts a cup of water through the bars of the cell for the Brown-haired man who looks up at it with a gasp. He thanks her as he reaches for the cup, but Bat runs screaming at the girl and grabs her hand, causing the cup to fall. He tells the brown-haired man to grab the key as he pulls her against the bars. Bat explains that they were both caught stealing and they will both be hung. The man grabs Bat's arm and energy begins to come off of it. He lets go of Lin, who falls backwards to the ground. Bat grabs his arm and screams as the energy intensifies. He falls onto his back screaming that it hurts and asking the brown-haired man what he did. The man asks Lin to forgive him and requests another cup of water. Lin nods at him.
Bat asks the man what his problem is as the man lays back down on his side. The man asks Bat what would happen to Lin if he ran away. Lin is shown waling away as Bat laughs and says "That's a wimpy thing to say in this day and age! How'd you ever manage to live this long?" The man is shown laying on his back as Bat asks him to be honest bout why he is at this village. He asks the man to join up with him, remarking that there is plenty of food and water and together they can rule the village. He says that guys with the strength to steal what they need live, and violence is what rules now. He mentions that the village has it's own self-defense force but it would be no match for them. The man rolls onto his side to face away from Bat, and Bat angrily yells for him to do what he wants.
Lin comes back with a tray holding food and a cup of water. The man drinks from the cup as Bat begins to eat. As he sets the cup down he thanks Lin and says that he feels much better. He asks her if she will get in trouble for bringing these things to them, and Lin blushes. while giving the man a wink. The man introduces himself as Kenshiro and asks her to call him Ken. Ken asks her what her name is and she looks away. Bat tells Ken that she doesn't talk because her heart is closed up. He tells Ken that she saw her parents and brother killed by bandits right in front of her as Lin has a flashback of her family dying and her home burning. Bat explains that the shock took her ability to speak and says that she has no one now. He continues, saying that she is forced to guard the jail and the villagers are mean to her, mentioning how it "Sucks to be a little kid nowadays" and saying that she chose the wrong time to be born, before spitting out the stem of the tomato he was eating.
Lin has tears rolling down her face and Bat apologizes to her. Ken asks her if it is tough and Lin shakes her head no. Ken thinks to himself that her eyes must have seen Hell, before reaching his hands out to her through the bars. She gasps, and Ken asks her to stay still. He puts his hands behind her neck and presses his fingers into it. Bat asks what he did, and Ken says it was magic to let her talk. Bat says that he must be kidding, and Ken tells him that the rest is up to her heart. Lin touches her face gasping, and two men walk into the jail.
They order Ken out saying that the Elder is back and the camera cuts to Ken in a room surrounded by men. the Elder asks him where he is going, and Ken tells him "Nowhere special." One of the men asks the Elder if Ken could be one of Zeed's men. The Elder says that if he is the mark will be on his body and tells the men to check. The men rip off Ken's shirt and reveal seven scars in the shape of the Big Dipper on his chest, which shocks the Elder. One of the men ask the Elder what is wrong. He thinks to himself that the stars of the Big Dipper foretell death, and that Ken's scars are a bad omen before a man yelling that Zeed's gang has arrived is heard.
Two people are shown running as Zeed's gang rides up on their bikes. Zeed is leading them and laughing. A man is shown in the jail telling Lin that she has to fight too as Ken looks on, once again in the cell. Lin nods at the man, and after waiting for him to leave, throws Ken the keys before running out of the building. Bat tells Ken that Lin has it bad for him before grabbing the keys from the ground. He tells Ken that Lin threw him the keys because she knows she'll be killed. Ken asks him what he meant and Bat tells him that Zeed's gang kills women, children, and whoever else gets in their way. Bat struggles with the lock as Ken grabs the bars. Energy is shown coming off of Ken and his eyes glow. He begins to pull the bars apart as a look of fear crosses Bats face. Ken yells as he pulls the bars far enough apart to walk through. Ken walks out of the cell and begins to run as Bat asks where he is going. He tells Ken that if they mess with Zeed they'll be killed. Ken gets out of the Jail and sees Zeed holding Lin up in the air. Zeed is surrounded by his gang, and the ground is littered in the corpses of villagers. The survivors stand among the bodies. Ken gasps at the site, and Zeed tells the villagers not to resist or he'll kill Lin. He orders them to bring him all of their food. One of the villagers says that they have no choice, and they have to fight Zeed. "Guess you won't believe me unless unless you see me do it!" Zeed says as he begins to twist Lin's head. Ken begins to walk towards Zeed, and Lin screams for him to stay back. A villager looks shocked upon hearing her voice and Bat begins says "She... She Talked! Lin Talked!" in surprise before asking himself "Who the hell is that guy?"
Zeed and his men stare on in disbelief as Ken continues to approach them. Ken stops a few feet from Zeed, and three of Zeed's men run up to him asking, who he thinks he is. Ken cracks both his knuckles and tells them to get lost. The men run at Ken and he hits all three of them with a single kick before jumping from where he is standing to directly in front of Zeed. Lin says his name as the men he kicked rub their hands where they were hit. One of the men tells Ken not to make fools of them as they start running towards him again. All three of the men's heads begin to expand before violently exploding. Their headless corpses fall to the ground.
Bat asks what Ken just did as the Elder looks on in disbelief and says "Hokuto Shinken!". Ken tells Zeed to let Lin go, and Zeed asks Ken if he was the one that killed his men. HE tells Ken that he'll twist Lin apart for what he did. He begins to twist Lin's head again, as Ken begins to yell. An aura appears around Ken again as his muscles expand enough to rip the clothing from his torso. Ken unleashes a flurry of blows on Zeed While yelling "WA-ta-ta-ta-ta!". Zeed is lifted off the ground by the force of Ken's attack and goes flying backwards as Lin falls into Ken's arms. Zeed falls to the ground behind Ken and the words: The Hundred Crack Fist of the North Star! appear onscreen as Ken says them.
The Elder begins to think to himself again. He remembers a killing technique from China known as Hokuto Shinken or The Holy Fist of the North Star. The Elder continues as Zeed begins to rub his jaw. "All of the practitioner's energy is concentrated into one blow, and it shocks the hidden power points of the body." Zeed begins to stand while the Elder continues. "He's just performed a killing technique that ruptures the body from within instead of from without!" Zeed stands behind Ken and says, "Your fists are about as strong as a mosquito's." as he raises his arms to strike. Ken tells him that he is already dead. As Zeed says "What?" his face begins to expand and his body contorts before he explodes.
Bat falls to the ground quaking in fear, as Zeed's corpse falls as well. Bat asks "What is he?" before the camera cuts to Ken leaving the village. Bat follows him holding a bag over his shoulder and asking why Ken is leaving. He tells Ken that "A guy as powerful as you could have it easy! All the food and water you want!". Bat decides to stay with Ken so that he won't have to go hungry again and races to catch up to him while Lin, still in the village, begins to chase them as she yells Ken's name. She asks herself why ken is leaving as tears run down her face.
The Elder tells Lin that where the Big Dipper appears, chaos follows and that Ken left to save the village. Lin continues to yell Ken's name as he and Bat walk into the distance.
