She finally asks Maneeba about going to AvengerCon, and claims Bruno is the one who wants to go and asked her to tag along. Maneeba refuses to let Kamala go, and isn't happy that Kamala will be going in a version of Captain Marvel's "tight suit". Aamir comes in and Kamala figures her parents would let her brother go, but they won't let her do normal teenage things. Yusuf says that Kamala isn't normal, and an exasperated Kamala storms off to her room.
Later, Aamir brings some chai to Kamala in her room, and tells her what she did was a bold move but not very well thought-out, and he respects her for trying. Kamala complains that Maneeba always tells her "no" and Aamir says that he'll talk to their parents. Once Aamir goes, Kamala texts Bruno and tells him what Maneeba said. Bruno is going home and gets the text. He goes to his room at his parents' apartment above a bodega.
The next day, Kamala is trying on her cosplay costume in her room. When Maneeba knocks on the door, Kamala puts on a robe to cover up her costume. Maneeba comes in and says that thanks to Aamir, she and Yusuf have decided to let Kamala go to AvengerCon, and she has a Hulk costume for Kamala to wear there. Yusuf comes in wearing another Hulk costume so he can go with her, and Kamala tells her parents that it's her and Bruno's thing, and Yusuf going with her in costume is humiliating. She then apologizes, saying she didn't mean it like that. Maneeba tells Kamala that if she doesn't go with Yusuf, she's not going at all, and dressing up in a skimpy outfit isn't Kamala. Yusuf agrees with her wife and follows her out,

As they tour the con, the motion sensor on the phone goes off. Kamala brings in a video of her parents, just as the Captain Marvel cosplay contest starts. Zoe is there in costume, and Kamala figures she can't beat her. Bruno assures his friend that she can, and Kamala goes to the restroom and puts on her Captain Marvel costume with Nani's bracer, accidentally leaving her photon gloves behind.
Bruno is in the audience in his Bruce Banner costume, and they realize that Kamala lost the photon gloves. They don't have time for Kamal to go back to the bathroom to get the gloves, and Kamala manages to get the bracer on and dons it. Her body glows with energy spreading from the bracer, and Kamala briefly falls into another world. She returns to the real world, but no one notices. Bruno gets Kamala up to the stage with the other entrants.
Kamala puts on her Captain Marvel helm and goes up. Blinded by the flashes, she instinctively fires a burst of energy from her hands. She fires more bursts above the crowd, and the audience applauds. She knocks the head off a giant Ant Man statue, and it falls and rolls through the auditorium, destroying everything in its path. Zoe congratulates the masked Kamala, while a giant mock-up of Thor's helmet falls when the head breaks its connecting cables. Zoe is swept up by it, and she finally falls off. Kamala extends one elongated arm and catches Zoe before she can hit the floor. Bruno grabs Kamala and tells her that they have to go.
They ride Bruno's bike back to Kamala's house. Kamala climbs up to her bedroom, and energy comes out of her foot and propels her up. Bruno says that he'll never tell anyone and rides off. She goes into her room and finds Maneeba waiting for her. Her mother asks Kamal where she's been, and is shocked that her rebellious daughter is sneaking out and lying. Kamala says that she's not trying to be rebellious, and figures that Kamala knew she was going to betray Maneeba but did it anyway. Maneeba tells Kamala that it's time to stop fantasizing and wants her daughter to jut focus on her story. She asks if Kamala wants to be good like they raised her to be, or she wants to be a head-in-the-clouds person. Maneeba tells Kamala to think about it and leaves.
Kamala collapses on her bed, then makes her hand glow and smiles.
