A unique and enjoyable art film

Boys Will Be is something I've been waiting to watch for a long time, ever since Jake announced it over a year back. I was finally able to watch it at a screening in Australia and it went FAR ABOVE my expectations (which were already very high).

The film is a sort of double feature which encases two near identical copies of the same film, however one version is a drama and the other is a comedy. While the story and characters remain the same, the music, minor dialogue changes and editing are altered to change the atmosphere.

It's an incredibly unique way to tell a story and I found it reflective of the multifaceted way in which we can view our own lives. Moss, the director, spoke of how he deals with his own difficulties in life by identifying the humour in them, and perhaps this film is a way of showing that all events can be experienced in more ways than one.

The acting is phenomenal. Dimitri Politis as usual is brilliant, Tori Webb, Michael Allen, Sam Sidhu and a plethora of other actors comprise this talented cast who masterfully handle both the comedic and dramatic interpretations of the text.

Behind the scenes, the music (provided by local musician King Colossus), editing (by Jake Moss) and all other elements work together perfectly to deliver this two-punch masterpiece.

In brief, many films have you crying in some parts, laughing in others. In this film, you will do both at once in the same scene, given twice.

In the words of an artist, poet, writer, painter and overall polymath who himself described the film, it's "GANGSTA".
