Lois goes to the gaze office, and talks to Derek. He says that he blacked out, and doesn't remember anything about the texts he sent to Sharon about being scared. Sharon tells Lois that she's happy Derek is back and none of it matters. Lois points out that someone tried to kill her, but then accepts Sharon is dropping the matter, despite Chrissy's objections.
Once Sharon and Derek leave, Chrissy tells Lois that their story was obviously rehearsed. Lois agrees, and says that they will figure it out together but should be happy Sharon got Derek back. Luthor is across the street watching, and tells his AI that he knows wherever Lois is, Superman will be close to her.
At the community center, Lana is taking contributions from the townspeople. She assures one woman, Aidy Manning, that after all she's been through, what Aidy is donating is enough. Sharon and Derek bring in some men's clothing, and Lana tells Derek that she's glad he's back. Derek rubs his head in pain, and excuses himself, and calls Leslie. Clark is preparing to go to the festival for the first time, when he was a teenager. She reminds him that Lana will be there. Martha then asks if Lana is still seeing Kyle, but before he has to answer Clark hears an alarm and speeds off. Wearing a ski mask to disguise his face, Clark confronts two robbers stealing TVs and a third robber comes out and prepares to shoot Clark.

Clark arrives outside and sees Sharon, safe, and uses his x-ray vision to see Kyle inside and a beam about to fall on him. Speeding in, Clark uses his super -breath to secretly save them, and Kyle looks around and finds frost.
Back at the Kent farm, Clark tells Lois that he should have got there sooner and most of the donations were destroyed. He tells his wife that Sharon was there and apparently looking for Derek, and Lois prepares to go investigate. Jonathan and Jordan return from school, and Jonathan says that he isn't hungry. Jordan explains to their parents that Eliza dumped Jonathan, and Lois goes to talk to Jonathan.
Lois asks Jonathan if he wants to talk about it, and Lois says that he has to give it some time and Eliza might remember how dumping Jonathan is her loss. Jonathan isn't impressed by his mother's advice and walks off.
That night, Lois finds Kyle at the center and asks him about the fire. Kyle says that Mitch was the best man at his wedding and his condition isn't looking good. Lois asks him if he's seen Derek, and that she needs to talk to him about a story. Kyle vaguely remember seeing Derek around the back earlier. Lois calls Chrissy and tells her what Kyle said, and asks her to find Sharon and get her to the Gazette. Luthor approaches Lois and says that he's been looking for her.
Lois and Luthor go to a nearby diner, and Luthor claims that he's a reporter focusing on big tech. He says that he used to work at LuthorCorp, and says that he's a fan of Lois and after reading her story on Morgan, thought there was a bigger story. He asks if someone else is covering Superman now that she's left Metropolis, and Lois deflects his questions. Luthor says that he can have a way to get into Morgan's mind. Lois isn't impressed, gives Luthor a card, and tells him to give her a call if he finds out anything.
Sharon goes to the Gazette and tells Chrissy that Derek sent her a text saying that he needed space. She show the text to Chrissy, who confirms that Sharon and Derek have the same phone plan.

Jonathan says that he's going to move in with someone back in Metropolis whether Clark wants him to or not, and goes to the Festival with Jordan. Clark looks after them, and remembers the past.
-----
Martha tells Clark that he can't play vigilante. He says that the rules against his acting public were his father's and it's been a year since Jonathan Sr. died. Martha tells Clark that she knew Clark was sent there for a reason, and Clark figures that it was more to be Clark Kent. He storms out, angry.
-----
Lana is at home and on phone, talking to someone about how surprised Clark will be. She hangs up as Kyle comes in and talks about Mitch and whether he can come back to the station. Lana hugs Kyle and realizes that he's been drinking, and then prepares to leave and says that she has people waiting for her. Sarah and Sophie come in, and Sarah has Lana take Sophie with her.

Kyle is lying on the couch, and Sarah gets him some coffee. He has her sit with him and starts singing a song he sang to her as a child. Sarah finally tells him to stop and says that it's been a long time, and she should be going. Kyle tells her that he'll follow her later, and his daughter leaves.
Derek meets with Leslie and they kiss. He says that he started the fire, and she tells him that he can fix him. As they go off, Chrissy secretly watches from her car.
Clark looks in Jonathan's room and looks out the window at the barn.
-----
A young Clark is in his room, and Martha comes in and apologizes. She says that she figures that the house isn't for him, and he's meant for bigger things. Martha gives Clark a red crystal and says that Jonathan Sr. found it in the spaceship, and it might be the key to his figuring out what his future needs.

Chrissy calls Lois and tells her that she got Derek's location from Sharon's phone, and she found Leslie with Derek and put him in a machine. Clark, overhearing the call, flies to the building.
Leslie pulls Derek out of the machine and asks if it worked. Superman flies in through the ceiling. Derek tells Leslie to protect the "asset", then flies out and Superman goes after him.
Luthor is monitoring the city from the equipment in his RV, and the AI identifies Superman by his flight pattern.
Superman flies after Derek, who sets a barn on fire to distract his pursuer. Superman puts it out and they fly through a cornfield. Luthor follows them, has the Ai engage the auto-drive, and gets weapons out of a cabinet.
As they fly through the corner, Derek says that Leslie "resurrected" him and addresses Superman his Kryptonian name, telling him that Kal-El isn't alone.
Luthor arrives below and fires a missile at the two "missiles". He then goes back to his RV, while the people at the festival see the explosion in the air but assume it's fireworks. Superman and Derek crash to the ground, and Superman tells Derek that he can help him. Derek says that he's already dead, and emits a burst of solar energy that turns him into ash.
Luthor grabs another gun from his RV and goes to the impact crater, but finds no one there.
Later at the Kent house, Jonathan tells his parents that he's sorry. Clark tells him that it's okay and it's his one "get out of jail free" card. Jonathan and Lois are both surprised, and Clark says that he knows what is going through because when he was a teenager, he realized that he had to leave Smallville to become someone else. Martha sacrificed her time for Clark, and Clark tells Jonathan that he has a great future and asks him to give Smalville some more time.
Jonathan agrees, and Clark gives him the empty case. Clark explains that Jonathan Sr. gave him the box when he proposed to her, and Martha gave it to him. They send their sons to bed, and Lois says that she feels bad for Sharon. Clark figures that it wasn't Derek, and whatever happened to him was similar to what happened to Tag. Lois figures that it has something to do with the mines.
The next morning, Clark and Lois take what they can to Lana. Lana tells them that Morgan already wrote them a check, and she then gives a speech to the town about how kind and generous Martha was. She dedicates the bench where Martha always sat in her name, and invites Clark to sit down.
-----
Clark sits down on the bench with Martha to wait for the train. She says that it's time as the train whistle sounds, and Clark goes to the nearby station.
-----
Sitting on the bench with Lois, Clark tells his wife that he was selfish. Lois assures Clark that Martha wanted him to be happy, and Clark wonders if they were just born their sons want to leave home. Luthor watches them from hiding, and then walks away. He goes back to his RV, and his AI tells him that it's not the Lois from his world that married him.
Jordan meets with Sarah, and says that his father was cool about Jonathan getting drunk. Sarah asks Jordan to apologize to Jonathan for her for her snapping at him, and says that she could use some time. Jordan jokingly says that he'll think about it and they laugh.
