An archaeology team is digging in the ruins of a temple, and the leader finds the bangle on a blue-skinned severed hand. Aisha comes in and demands to see it, removes the bangle, and says that one will have to do. The temple shakes from the British soldiers attacking and Aisha puts on the bangle and it glows with energy for a moment. She and the last member of her team, Najma, agree to meet late and run out separately.
The Present
At her home, Najma tells Kamala and Kamran that she and Aisha have been running ever since, but that was the last time she saw Aisha. The others in the team, and Najma explains that they and Aisha are from another dimension. They were exiled from that dimension and close to finding their way home, but were separated. They were separated during Partition but never found Aisha, and the others tease Kamran in their team for being born there and looking so young. Najma leads Kamala off to talk privately, and Najma explains that when Kamala put on the bangle, they sense the presence of "Noor". The energy of Noor slows down their aging, but they can't access its full potential. Najma figures that since Kamala is from Earth, she might be able to access the full potential of Noor. She hopes that someday the same will happen with Kamran.
Kamala points out that bad things happen because of the bangle, including the fact she dropped a kid off a building. Najma assures her good can come of the bangle, and the bangle and its visions brought Kamala to her. She assures Kamala that she sees the greatness in Kamala, and says that Kamala must finish Aiasha's vision to bring them all home. Najma says that they're known as "ClanDestines", commonly as "Djinn".
The next morning, Kamal goes to Bruno's apartment. He says that the police showed up at the mosque and she just disappeared, and Kamala explains that she's a Djinn, like the stuff in her childhood nightmares. She explains that a group of "Djinn people" saved her from the drones, and Kamran is one of the ClanDestines. They need Kamala's help, so Kamala needs Bruno's help. Bruno agrees but wonders how he can help, and Kamala asks him what he knows about interdimensional travel. Bruno says that he's read a paper by Dr. Selvig about the topic, and tells Kamala that video of her saving the boy is trending.
Deever and a team of agents go the mosque and say that they're with the Department of Damage Control, and received a report of an uncontrolled enhanced individual operating out of the mosque. Nakia says that Deever has no legal authority there and says that the DDOC needs a warrant. Deever warns Sheikh Abdullah that it's a serious matter, but he refuses until Deever has a warrant.
In her bedroom, Kamala watches the video of her rescue and smiles. Nakia comes, in, throws herself on the bed, and sighs in exasperation. She sees "Nightlight" on the computer screen and tells Kamala that DDOC came to the mosque, and figures the heroine doesn't care that she made the Muslim community a target. Nakia tells Kamala that she became a board member, and Kamala hugs Nakia in congratulations.
Later, the Khan family gathers in the living room, with all their extended family, to celebrate Amir's upcoming wedding. Aamir complains about his family hiding all of his shoes, and the Abdullah mentions the DDOC coming by. Kamala asks for more details, but the Abdullah has nothing to say except that the DDOC didn't seem happy that Nightlight was a Muslim girl. Muneeba says that Nightlight should be ashamed for causing such trouble, and gives Kamala a box that one of her relatives sent her because he couldn't make it.
Kamala goes out on the porch with the box. Abdullah comes out and Kamala asks him if he agrees with everyone about Nightlight. She wonders if Nightlight is making things worse, and wonders how the heroine convinces everyone that she's good. Abdullah says that "good" is a thing one does, and leaves. Kamala opens the box and finds a mask inside.
That night, Bruno is working the counter at his parents' bodega when Yusuf comes in. Yusuf buys a Hostess fruit pie and admits that Muneeba doesn't let him have them, but he can't resist them. The older man notices that Bruno is reading about the Djinn, and helps Bruno translate the work from Urdu. According to the paper, the Djinn have had many named across time, and some cultures have called them demons. Some were exiled from their homeworld and damned to live out their lives on Earth. They search for the key that will help them get home, but need a primordial power. After finishing, Yusuf leaves.
Later, Brno meets with Kamala and tells her him that he ran a simulation on her new energy signatures. She's rubbing her injured knee, and Bruno tells her that it's theoretically possible to achieve international travel but the base power of the Sun is necessary, and if Kamala helps the ClanDestine then it might blow up the Earth. Kamala seizes on the world "might", and figures it's something good she needs to do. Bruno abruptly tells Kamala that he got into Caltech, and thinks he needs to go. However, he can't leave unless he knows everything is okay. Bruno says that he'll help Kamala help the ClanDestine if that's what she wants, but he doesn't see a safe way to do it. Kamala says that Carol Danvers did something similar, but Bruno tells Kamala that Danvers is reckless and maybe it's a good thing that Kamala isn't Danvers.
Kamala is at home binding her knee, and Muneeba come in to the bathroom and sees the injury. Her daughter claims that she fell off her bike, but Muneeba insists on helping. Kamala asks her mother if she ever felt like she was against the world, and Muneeba says that she and Yusuf dreamed of coming to America but when they came, it was hard and Muneeba felt alone. She found the mosque and her family, and let them love her. Muneeba tells Kamala that whatever she's facing, Kamala doesn't have to do it alone. Kamala hugs her mother, who assures Kamala that it's okay and tells her to cheer up because Aamir is getting married. Once Muneeba leaves, Kamala texts Kamran and says that she needs more time. He tells her to focus on the wedding, and they'll figure out the rest later
Later at the mosque, at the wedding, Abdullah prepares Aamir for the ceremony. Aamir worries that he only has $732, and Abdullah assures Aamir that he'll find a way to go by after grad school. Kamala comes in and secretly listens as Abdullah tells Amir that a man has one fundamental choice in life, to live a life in fear or love. He says that the man should choose love, passion, faith, and courage. Abdullah assures Aamir that he's brave because he's chosen family, and the man who chooses family is never alone.
At the ceremony, Abdullah united the couple in matrimony
At home, Kamran discovers that Najma has seen her texts to Kamala. He says that he was going to tell her mother, and Kamala needs more time. Najma says that they don't have more time. She knows that it might be dangerous, shocking Kamran, and they'll make Kamala help them and Najma isn't asking anymore.
At the reception at the mosque, everyone has their first dance. Kamala dances with her family and Bruno joins in. The dancers pull Aamir up, and he brings Tyesha up. Brown Jovi then performs. Kamran comes in, as Kamala invites Bruno to dance. Coming over, Kamran asks Kamala if they can talk, and then drags Kamela away and says that she and her entire family are in danger, and he came to warn her. He warns that the ClanDestine will kill everyone there.
Bruno follows them over and tells Kamran to leave. Kamran tells Bruno to back off and Najma won't let anyone stand in her way. The ClanDestine comes in, and Kamala sets off the fire alarm to distract them. Everyone goes out, and Najma tells Kamran not to get in her way.
In a kitchen hallway, Kamala sees one of the intruders take out a security guard. Kamala runs but another ClanDestine corners her. She runs into the kitchen and tells everyone to get out, and the ClanDestine come in and surround Kamala. She fights back using the bangle, holding her own.
Outside, the Aamir/Tyesha party meet with another party that also escaped. One of the aunties says she saw Kamala pull the fire alarm, and Muneeba and Yusuf hear her talking.
Najma calls to the hiding Kamal that there's no use resisting, and the bangle is meant for something bigger than Kamala.
Bruno comes out, and Yusuf and Muneeba ask him if Kamal is all right. Nakia is in the crowd and notices that Kamala is missing, and runs in after her friend.
Kamala crawls on the floor to stay out of sight. Najma turns off the lights and calls to Kamala to help them get home, and it will be all over. She hits a frying pan on a counter, and Kamala instinctively generates an energy crystal, giving away her position. One of the other ClanDestine knocks Kamala out onto the dance floor with his weapon, and then all of the ClanDestine move in on the girl. Kamala fights back as best she can, and Bruno comes back in and throws wedding presents at them until they knock him out. Kamala redoubles her efforts, and Kamran comes in and tells the ClanDestines to leave Kamala alone.
Kamala runs to Bruno to make sure he's okay, then helps get him out. Kamran gets knocked off a balcony in front of them, and the ClanDestines surround them. Najma grabs the bangle, causing a vision of a ship. Deever and her DDOC agents come in and blast the ClanDestines with their energy weapons, then take the Djinn into custody, including Kamran, while Kamala and Bruno look on. The two teenagers get out the back and run into Nakia. Nakia realizes that Kamala is Nightlight, and her friend didn't tell her. Bruno tells Kamal to go, and once Kamala leaves, Nakia asks Bruno what just happened.
When Kamala goes home, Muneeba asks her where she's been, and if she pulled the alarm. Her parents ask Kamala what happened, and Muneeba says that they want to help her but can't if they don't know what's going on with her. Kamala says that she can't, and her parents walk away, disappointed.
Kamala goes to her room and lays on her bed, and Nani calls her telling Kamala that she needs to come to Karachi, and Muneeba needs to come with her. Nani says that she saw the vision as well and figures that Kamala did, and that's why Kamala needs to come to Karachi.
