After just two weekends of release, “Inside Out 2” is towering above the rest as the highest-grossing movie of the year.
Disney and Pixar’s sequel has generated $355 million in North America and $724 million globally to date, overtaking the previous record holder, “Dune: Part Two” ($282 million domestically and $711 million worldwide). At this rate, it’ll soon be the first movie of 2024 to cross $1 billion worldwide.
Internationally, the “Inside Out” sequel collected $164.4 million from 44 territories in its second outing. So far, it has earned $369.2 million overseas to stand as the year’s third-biggest international release behind “Godzilla x Kong” ($371 million) and “Dune Part 2” ($429 million). Top earning markets include Mexico ($63.9 million), the United Kingdom ($29.2 million), Korea ($29 million), Germany ($17.9 million) and Brazil ($17.3 million). It opens in its final major market, Japan, on Aug. 1.

Spoiler Alert!Spoilers for Season 2 of House of the Dragon
While House of the Dragon boasts of many anti-heroes and villains, the character of Ser Criston Cole seems to have irked fans to new levels. The Kingsguard is known for his turncoat behavior and in the latest episode, is seen sleeping with Queen Alicent Hightower while the assassins Blood and Cheese kill Jaehaerys Targaryen.
Cole is played by Fabien Frankel, who reportedly did not expect to be cast as the controversial character. Frankel revealed that when he auditioned for the role, the brief by the makers for Criston Cole mentioned that they were looking for a ‘Jason Momoa type’. However, the creators seemed to have changed their minds after Frankel’s audition.

Pixar’s “Inside Out 2” (Disney) grossed $254 million in its first seven days in U.S. and Canadian theaters. By as early as Saturday, it will best “Dune: Part Two” (Warner Bros.) as 2024’s biggest success, and by Sunday, the film should reach at least $315 million.
The surprisingly strong animated sequel (top industry projections gave it a shot at $300 million) now looks certain to gross at least $500 million for its run. That would make it the sixth to do so since theaters reopened.
Buttressed by summer vacation and the mid-week Juneteenth holiday, the seven-day total is $14 million better than “Super Mario Bros.,” and stunningly only $4 million below “Barbie.” But at this point, odds are against “Inside Out 2” equaling “Mario” ($574 million), much less reaching “Barbie” ($636 million). But to be even talking about getting close is an incredible accomplishment for Disney’s Pixar unit, which since Covid struck, has not managed...

The Annecy Animation Film Festival is a place of wonder and discovery. It's an event where you can catch the premiere of the latest "Despicable Me" movie and the return of the Looney Tunes to the big screen, but you can also enjoy teases for the next big thing in studio animation (like Chris Sanders' "The Wild Robot") and appreciate small independent films from around the world.
It's usually in the latter category that the biggest gems can be uncovered, such as "Flow," the sophomore feature by Gints Zilbalodis. This is a beautiful, poignant movie about a group of animals trying to survive in the wild, told entirely without dialogue and animated in a naturalistic way — with the animals not being anthropomorphized but acting just like animals (echoing the golden era of Disney and movies like "Bambi").
"Flow" is also a kick-ass post-apocalyptic movie. You see, when we first meet the film's young cat protagonist,...

Australian director Adam Elliot ‘s stop-motion picture Memoir of a Snail has won the top Cristal prize for best feature at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
The movie gathers a starry cast led by Succession star Sarah Snook, who lends her voice to protagonist Grace Puddle, a young woman with a difficult life story who finds comfort in the hoarding of snail memorabilia.
Memoir of a Snail is Elliot’s second feature after 2009 animation Mary and Max, and Oscar-winning 2004 short Harvey Krumpet.
In other prizes in the main Competition, Japanese director Shinnosuke Yakuwa’s Totto-Chan: The Little Girl at the Window won the Paul Grimault Award and Latvian filmmaker Gints Zilbalodis’ Flow was feted with the Jury Award.

It’s a good time to go bananas for gamers on Steam. While many gamers are busy out there playing visually stunning games like Call of Duty, Helldivers 2, Valorant, and more, one game with nothing special in it is making waves on the internet. All they have to do is click what appears on the screen, which is literally a banana.
Interestingly, it is climbing the Steam charts rapidly. At the time of this writing, it has a concurrent user base of 392K and is hanging onto number four with Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, and Pubg: Battlegrounds, ahead of the game.
Steam Has Been Getting a Lot of Clicks From This Banana on Steam has been trending among gamers lately.
It would likely be a very captivating game for the minions from the popular animated movie, Despicable Me. Players don’t have to do anything but click on a banana and they’ll get more bananas.

Pharrell Williams rides a slick bass line through “Double Life,” his latest contribution to the musical universe of the Despicable Me franchise. The record appears on the soundtrack for Despicable Me 4, out July 3. The first time the musician teamed up with the animated film franchise was a decade ago, when “Happy” from Despicable Me 2 became one of the most inescapable pop tunes in recent memory. He also landed five songs on the Despicable Me 3 soundtrack.
“Double Life” is less sunny than “Happy,” with a bit of a menacing and existential edge.

It's been almost 15 years since "Despicable Me" burst onto the scene, heralding the arrival of a new powerhouse in American animation, a new money-printing machine, and the most popular animated characters in decades — the Minions.
Now, after several spin-offs, we're back to the main series, absent for seven years. And yet, in that time, not much has changed. Felonius Gru (Steve Carell) is still a reformed villain with zero temptation to return to his evil ways. He is still very much in love with his family — wife Lucy (Kristen Wiig), and adopted daughters Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier), and Agnes (newcomer Madison Polan) — and doesn't seem to be doing anything with his army of hench-minions. The only new thing in this movie and Gru's world is the addition of a new child. Gru Jr. looks like a mini-Gru, but with slightly more hair. The addition of a child...

Seven years have passed since the last “Despicable Me” movie, and the only thing that’s changed in Gru’s world is the addition of another child, Gru Jr., who’s the spitting image of his dad: hook nose, shifty eyes, squatty head — just with slightly more hair. The addition of a biological son to a family of three adopted daughters (not to mention a platoon of unmanageable Minions) would be plot enough for “Despicable Me 4,” but whatever drama the new kid might cause goes underexamined in Illumination’s overstuffed sequel. At times, it feels less like a feature than a collection of Looney Tunes-y shorts piled one on top of another.

Illumination’s Despicable Me 4 received an ecstatic homecoming welcome as it made its French premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on Thursday.
The Annecy screening was arguably as special as its starry world premiere in New York on June 9 – with cast led by Steve Carell, Will Farrell and Kristen Wiig in attendance – but for different reasons.
“This franchise has a long history with Annecy,” festival director Marcel Jean told the crowd gathered in Annecy’s 1,000-seat Bonlieu cinema theatre.
“All four episodes of the franchise have been screened at the festival in this theatre,” he continued to applause.
The cast were not present on Thursday, but director Chris Renaud and Patrick Delage took to the stage and more than 60 members of the Illumination crew were in the audience. This meant that for once, the audience stayed until the end of the credits.
“I’m actually here hoping I don’t get emotional,...

The cast were not present on Thursday, but director Chris Renaud and Patrick Delage took to the stage and more than 60 members of the Illumination crew were in the audience. This meant that for once, the audience stayed until the end of the credits.

So we got Inside Out 2 potentially reaching $90M this coming weekend, Paramount’s Quiet Place: Day One north of $40M+ on June 28, and the July 3rd release of Illumination/Universal’s Despicable Me 4 targeting a $100M+ over 5-days, likely more. Fingers crossed, but it’s momentum at the summer box office.
Why a Wednesday opening? Because depending on where the July 4th holiday lands, you’ll get Wednesday openings. The last time Universal debuted a Despicable Me movie on a Wednesday before July 4th was part 2 which came out in 2013. That made $143M over 5-days.
The last one in the franchise, Minions: Rise of Gru, came on lower on tracking than DM4 and that overperformed to a 4-day haul of $123M. DM4 is tracking with everyone I’m told, particularly men under 25. However, just because a movie arrives on tracking higher than its previous installment,...

Despicable Me 4 got the crowd going bananas over big moments at its French premiere during the Annecy Animation Festival.
Director Chris Renaud and co-director Patrick Delage took the stage Thursday to introduce the latest installment in Universal Pictures’ popular film series. The franchise is clearly special to the nation; Delage is a French filmmaker, as is Pierre Coffin, who directed 2010’s initial Despicable Me movie with Renaud and continues to voice the mischievous Minions.
“I’m actually here thinking I’m hoping I don’t get emotional,” Renaud told the attendees. “About 14 years ago, my introduction to Annecy was premiering a film called Despicable Me, and the reaction Pierre Coffin, the other director, and I got in this room is something I’ll never forget and something I carry with me to this day. I find it fascinating every time Joey King walks the red carpet, as she never fails to bring something new and unexpected to the table. This was evident when she showed up at the Despicable Me 4 New York City premiere wearing a futuristic Sportmax dress with an interesting plastic overlay.

She epitomized Old Hollywood glamor in a yellow Miu Miu dress and channeled her inner ice princess in a blue Cong Tri gown only two weeks ago at the Cannes Film Festival. The upcoming animated comedy Despicable Me 4 is the fourth mainline installment of the long-running and global popular Despicable Me franchise and the sixth overall film when counting spin-offs. Beginning in 2010, the franchise has since made over $4.6 billion worldwide in films alone and billions more in merchandise sales.
The new film will be about Gru’s expanding family with the birth of his son Junior as they battle a new villain named Maxime La Mal (Voiced by Will Ferell). However, one of the most notable additions was the introduction of the Mega Minions, a group of super-powered Minions with various superhuman abilities, from super strength to flight, to elasticity, and even laser eyes.
In the film’s most recent promotional video, “Enter The Megaverse,” Steve Carell, the voice of Gru, presents a planned timeline for films based on the new Mega Minion characters that spans over the next century.

During Steve Carrell’s appearance on Today, anchor Savannah Guthrie talked about many topics, including an iconic movie series.
Carrell has starred in countless popular and acclaimed films like Foxcatcher, Little Miss Sunshine, and The Big Short.
One of his recent roles is his return to voicing the villain Gru in the popular Despicable Me franchise, with the fourth film arriving in early July.
While Carrell discussed that on Today, Savannah mentioned another classic set of films: Anchorman and Anchorman 2.
Carrell appeared as a main character in both films, and Savannah said she was ready for a third one to happen.
She also pleaded with Carrell about getting an Anchorman 3 film role.

The cinematic world has long been fascinated with cute assistants, often tiny creatures or robots that bring a unique charm and support to their human counterparts. Let’s delve into some of the most iconic and beloved little assistants from our favorite movies. Minions in Despicable Me The Minions are undeniably adorable and have become an essential part of the Despicable Me franchise. Initially, these yellow, pill-shaped beings were mere background characters in Gru’s story. As described by Pierre Coffin, I guess it was an appeal issue for Gru. We kept finding that the sillier it was, the better it was.

“Nothing lasts forever.” There’s something deeply ironic about that line of dialogue being dropped by Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow in only the second Avengers movie from almost 10 years ago. While Johansson’s tenure in the superhero genre is apparently over, with the Oscar-nominated star more recently focusing on films like Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City, the MCU is still going strong with the latest whispers about Avengers 5 getting the rumor mills spinning again. Hence one of the reasons Steve Carell and Illumination Entertainment’s new marketing for Despicable Me 4 is so biting.
Carell—who, by the by, was also in Asteroid City—took time to promote not only Despicable Me 4 in a new viral marketing video, but an entire supposed “Mega Minions” shared universe that will outlive us all and see the 22nd century.

But now Steve Carell and company are back, and there’s even a new Gru — baby Gru Jr. — who plays a large part in the new film’s plot. To Carell, that’s a big plus, because he loves the quirky relationship that his character has with his young son. There's less than a month to go until Despicable Me 4 arrives in theaters, and Illumination has released a new promo which takes a shot of Black Adam star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Warner Bros.' tax write-offs, and the MCU.
The pro wrestler and actor vowed to change the "hierarchy of power" in the DC Extended Universe with the 2022 movie, only for it to flop at the box office and bomb with critics and fans alike. From there, Johnson's plans to take over the franchise failed and he was promptly ousted when James Gunn and Peter Safran took charge of DC Studios.
As for the 100-year slate of "Mega Minions" movies, it's a tongue-in-cheek dig at Marvel Studios and its habit of revealing slates of movies and TV shows years before they're released.
It's all meant in good fun, though we're sure Johnson doesn't appreciate being made fun of in this way.

Would-be summer blockbusters have had a bit of a hard time pulling in audiences lately. These movies not only failed to meet expectations but have also started to make cinema observers second guess what the audience and moviegoers crave. Movies like The Fall Guy and Furiosa have had good buzz building before their premieres and both were generally well received by the critics and people who saw it. However, neither made much in the way of money, and even a seemingly sure thing like Garfield didn’t fare much better.
The real test comes with the summer release titles like Deadpool & Wolverine, Inside Out 2 or Despicable Me 4. All of them are movie sequels with pre-established fan bases and past successes. However, Bad Boys: Ride or Die is also somewhat of a litmus test. The franchise has been a big money-maker, and it may give an insight into whether...

With the unofficial beginning of summer — Memorial Day — come and gone, the season has entered full swing. Several of the summer weekends will be crowded at the box office with sometimes three releases competing on similar dates. With action films like Bad Boys: Ride Or Die, A Quiet Place: Day One and Twisters taking us through July, some animated adventures like Inside Out 2 and Despicable Me 4 will provide fun for whole families.
Deadpool 3 will cap off July with a new Marvel installment from Shawn Levy, Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, making way for more sinister films ahead of fall like M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap and Alien: Romulus. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice deserves an honorable mention although it won’t hit theaters until September to lead into spooky season and October.

This summer, "Despicable Me 4" is coming to theaters, bringing back Steve Carell as Gru, the super-villain who has since become an agent of the Anti-Villain League. Over the years, Gru and his girls Margo (Miranda Cosgrove), Edith (Dana Gaier), and Agnes (Madison Polan) have been through plenty of wild adventures, and now that they're joined by Gru's wife Lucy (Kristen Wiig), they're welcoming a little bundle of joy into the family: Gru Jr., who is apparently intent on tormenting his dad.
However, the family will be forced on the run, as Gru is forced to deal with a new nemesis in the form of Maxime Le Mal (Will Ferrell) and his femme fatale girlfriend Valentina (Sofia Vergara). Of course, the little yellow Minions will be joining them, ensuring there will be plenty of chaos (and bananas and farts) in theaters this summer.

Steve Carell has been responsible for some of the funniest characters on the big and small screen this century. Brick Tamland in Anchorman, Michael Scott in The Office, Gru in Despicable Me, Mark R. Naird in Space Force — the list goes on. Now, per THR's reporting, Carell is set to add another notch to his funnyman belt with a starring role in a new HBO comedy from Ted Lasso co-creator Bill Lawrence and Scrubs' Matt Tarses.
The victor of a multi-platform bidding war, HBO have ordered the as-yet-untitled show straight-to-series, with a 10-episode first season in development. Lawrence and Tarses, who are currently hard at work on Apple TV's upcoming Vince Vaughn comedy series Bad Monkey, are set to write the first episode of this show, a single-camera comedy set on a college campus that centres around the complicated relationship between an author (presumably Carell) and his daughter.

HBO has given out a straight-to-series order for a single-camera comedy series starring Steve Carell from Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses, Variety has learned.
The untitled, half-hour series has been given a 10 episode order. The official logline states that the show is “set on a college campus, centering on an author’s complicated relationship with his daughter.”
“HBO has long been a standard bearer of quality TV,” Lawrence said. “Getting to do a show there with Steve Carell is an immediate career highlight for Matt and me. Nothing can go wrong now.”
Lawrence and Tarses wrote the first episode of the series. Both serve as executive producers, with Carell also executive producing in addition to starring. Lawrence executive produces via Doozer Productions along with Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer. Warner Bros. Television, where both Lawrence and Tarses are under overall deals, is the studio.

Steve Carell is headed to HBO.
The former star of The Office will lead the cast of an untitled single-camera comedy from Ted Lasso co-creator Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses (Scrubs). HBO has handed out a straight-to-series order of 10 episodes for the series, which had been the focus of a multiple-platform bidding war.
The comedy is set on a college campus and centers on an author’s complicated relationship with his daughter. Lawrence and Tarses, who previously collaborated on Scrubs and who are currently working on the Apple series Bad Monkey, will write the first episode.

The series hails from Warner Bros. Television, where Lawrence recently renewed his overall deal. Lawrence, Tarses and Carell will exec produce the comedy.

Spanish animation is experiencing a historic boom. Shorts and features from the country are achieving notable success at festivals and the box office, while Spanish artists are contributing to some of the most influential film and TV productions coming from Hollywood today.
The question now is what steps should be taken to build on recent success.
Spaniard Almu Redondo won an Emmy this year for her work on the Cartoon Saloon-produced “Star Wars: Visions” episode “Screecher’s Reach,” and Pablo Berger’s Spanish feature “Robot Dreams” was nominated for a 2024 animated feature Academy Award. Few artists had as profound an impact on the aesthetic of the “Spider-Verse” films as Alberto Mielgo, who also won the animated short Oscar in 2022 for his film “The Windshield Wiper.”

Closer in tone to the sharp adult series “BoJack Horseman” than to Illumination’s bland “Sing” franchise, Netflix’s “Thelma the Unicorn” avoids being rendered completely unoriginal by its overly familiar premise thanks to consistent splashes of acid humor and a plethora of wacky supporting characters. Reimagined from the popular 2015 children’s book by Aaron Blabey, this bright-colored fable concerns a female pony chasing musical stardom disguised as a horned magical creature. But by changing her identity to chase those ambitions, Thelma betrays herself and those who truly know her.

The Despicable Me franchise will soon include half a dozen movies, all following a chronological timeline.
Produced by Universal, Steve Carrell's now-iconic Gru and his extended family have gained incredible success over the past 14 years with over $4.5 billion in box office revenue (per The Numbers).
The franchise includes three Despicable Me movies and two Minions spin-offs before Despicable Me 4 hits theaters in July, although they jump back and forth through time on multiple occasions.

There is something very nostalgic about looking back at the shows we grew up with, but the people we looked up to have changed. Some have continued to build their careers and now hold various awards, and others couldn't handle the stress of the industry and have retired.

The fourth installment of the Despicable Me franchise recently showed off a new trailer, giving us more details on the upcoming sequel. The popular Illumination franchise, which began in 2010, has seen three mainline films and two spin-off films earning over $4.4 Million at the worldwide box office. Now, the new film will potentially continue that trend.
But some interesting things were of note in the new trailer. While we were introduced to the new main villain duo of Maxime Le Mal (Voiced by Will Ferrel) and Valentina (Voiced by Sofía Vergara), the trailer shows us that at least five of Gru’s minions have been given superpowers by the A.V.L (Anti Villain League).
In the previous film, some of the minions left Gru to join his twin brother Dru, but there appear to be a few still with their boss. However, most of the trailer focuses less on Gru...

As far as modern animated franchises go, Despicable Me is undoubtedly one of the best-known and most lucrative ones in history. It all began in 2010 and now, 14 years later, we have three main movies, two spin-off prequels, numerous shorts, and an upcoming fourth movie, Despicable Me 4, which is set to be released in theaters on July 3, 2024. Now, the premiere is not that far away, so we already know a lot about the upcoming movie, but Illumination has today blessed us with yet another trailer, which you will be able to see below!

Writer-director S. Craig Zahler (“Bone Tomahawk”) is set to reunite with his “Dragged Across Concrete” and “Brawl in Cell Block 99” star Vince Vaughn and Oscar winner Adrien Brody (“The Pianist”) for upcoming crime thriller “The Bookie & the Bruiser.”

The Despicable Me movies always do very well at the box office (even if the reviews haven't remained quite as positive), so it came as no surprise that a fourth instalment in Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment's animated franchise was on the way, and a new trailer and poster have now been released.
Though Gru will appear, the Minions have really become the main focus of these movies, and there's plenty of fun to be had with the little yellow fellas in this latest teaser, which sees several "volunteers" transformed into super-powered Mega-Minions.
One gains stretchy abilities like Mr. Fantastic, another is a clear not to The Thing, and there's also a Minion with Cyclops-like optic blasts.
Check out the new trailer and poster below, and let us know if you plan on catching this one on the big screen.

Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment have released the final trailer (we think?) for the latest entry in the Despicable Me series, Despicable Me 4, premiering in July.
With the release of The Fall Guy last week, summer blockbuster season has officially arrived, which means lots of eyes are looking at the year’s biggest and splashiest projects and watching how they perform commercially. One such set of eyes will be those of Universal Pictures, who will be keen to retain its crown as the studio that grossed the most money last year and as such, the performance of its biggest movies will play a key role.
Whilst the jury is still out on whether The Fall Guy will be numbered among its successes, hopes will be high that Despicable Me 4 – set to release in July – will be a strong addition to Universal’s balance sheet. After all, 2022’s Minions: The Rise of Gru...

The Minions are going Marvel for Illumination‘s Despicable Me 4 by getting the Super Soldier treatment in a new trailer!
