An Ode To Midwestern Living
ricky_horn8 September 2023
Those of us who have spent any amount of time in the midwestern United States will have a lot of sympathy for our pitiful hero in this modern low budget fairytale about a man and his dream and, as he attempts to live up to the fantasy he has concocted for himself. It rings true on many levels. Maybe people from the eastern or western coasts of the United States will find this story unbelievable, however, if you have lived in places like Wisconsin, Nebraska, Iowa or you have cousins from there you will really connect with these characters and you know like I do that people like this really do exist in those states. You have all kinds, the wanna be filmmaker who you know deep down is never going to amount to much, the hopeless actor who finally lands a job but then doesn't even bother showing up, and the clumsy guy who breaks his foot skateboarding while drunk because well there is simply nothing better to do. And of course who of us does not remember hearing the stories of Charles Starkweather and his ilk? Even when the story seems to go off the deep end in the most shocking of ways it still manages to keep one foot grounded in reality. Did it really happen or is it all in his head? It is left up to you the viewer to decide for ourselves.

decent no budget film
Nathan19672 December 2021
Suffers from the usual symptoms associated with not having a budget. Makes up for it with bone dry comedy. Several genuinely hilarious moments.

Could do with a trim or at least a re-edit. Doesn't flow well at some points and certain scenes feel out of place.

But other scenes make the film work and feel genuinely original.

A perfect kind of independent film
eltn717 January 2021
This film was a pleasure to watch not only because it is hilarious but because it is also so original. It doesn't feel like any other movie, which is nice to see in a time when all movies feel like each other. It's something rare these days that you only ever see in independent films and some foreign cinema. You can really see the true personas of the filmmakers shine through in this. It kind of reminds me of Woody Allen's early work, back before he got to where he could only make "Woody Allen" films.
