- TriviaHaving arrived back in 2024, Picard tells his crew not to step on any butterflies. This is a reference to the Ray Bradbury short story "A Sound of Thunder" in which a big-game hunter travels back in time to kill a dinosaur. In doing so, he steps off the predetermined path and inadvertently kills a butterfly. Arriving back in his own time, he finds the timeline has been changed. This gave rise to the phrase "The Butterfly effect" where small actions can have much larger repercussions.
- GoofsPenance (2022) ends with the La Sirena crew confronted by Confederate security. They raise their hands in surrender and Picard's hands are empty. When "Assimilation" picks up the very next moment, Picard is suddenly holding a phaser in his still-raised right hand.
- Quotes
Dr. Agnes Jurati: [groggily] Picard?
Jean-Luc Picard: Doctor, are you alright?
[Agnes nods yes]
Jean-Luc Picard: Your plan worked. Power has been restored, along with the Queen. However... same leopard, same spots.
Dr. Agnes Jurati: No need to keep her activated, then.
Jean-Luc Picard: Agreed.
Borg Queen: [scoffs] Idle human threats. You won't deactivate me because of your deeply flawed inability not to hope in the face of hopelessness. I hold information you need. You, against all odds, hope I'll relent. Therefore, you won't deactivate me. And with each passing second, the mathematical probability that I get your ship grows. In the end, you'll sacrifice your lives for the future of the many. So, in the interest of efficiency, shall we just fast forward?
Dr. Agnes Jurati: What exactly is the information you hold?
Borg Queen: The location of the Watcher and when the temporal divergence occurs.
Dr. Agnes Jurati: Hmmm.
[nods her head]
Dr. Agnes Jurati: Are you sure about that?
Borg Queen: [starts to think, then realizes something is wrong] What did you do? Where is it? You...
Dr. Agnes Jurati: Stole it. Computer, dictate the file logged, "Shit I stole from the Borg Queen".
Ship's computer: 34.0488 North...
Borg Queen: No one takes from me, my dear.
Ship's computer: 118.2518 West.
Jean-Luc Picard: Coordinates.
Dr. Agnes Jurati: To find the Watcher.
Jean-Luc Picard: Ah, well done!
Dr. Agnes Jurati: I suppose even higher, cybernetic life forms can get sloppy with where they leave secrets lying around. But there's more, isn't there? When it happens. I can alm... I can almost feel it.
[Jurati chuckles]
Dr. Agnes Jurati: It'll come to me.
Borg Queen: What you have just done here is more difficult and vastly more dangerous than you realize.
Dr. Agnes Jurati: And what is that?
Borg Queen: You've impressed me.

There is almost constant action, but the whole episode is just setting up the stage for what is to come. It's the fastest 47 minutes in the series so far. At the first end-credit you might yell No! No! Not yet, please! The Borg Queen hears you, but so does Agnes. They might both deliver in the next episode. Dynamics are changing. I'm very interested to see how the series will define the characters that will result from these changes.
