- At the Vampire Council Headquarters, Nandor and Nadja argue over who is in charge of the Council, and explain that one of their duties it to look after the Sire, the first vampire. Over the centuries the Sire has devolved into a horrific and fearsome creature, but its continued health is of extreme importance to vampire-kind.
Earlier that night, Nandor and Nadja go to the archive and discover that the Sire escaped his cell. Nadja blames Nandor, even though she never told him to feed the Sire. She never got around to asking him, but Nandor takes the Sire's escape personally anyway.
Nandor and Nadja tells the others about the Sire's escape, and Nadja insists if the Sire dies, all vampires that it sired die as well. Laszlo doesn't believe what he claims is a myth, while Nandor blames himself and is ready to go out and fix his mistake. Guillermo's dog goes after Nandor, and Guillermo chases after the dog. Laszlo notes that the Baron is dead and if so, then he and Nadja would be dead. They then run out to check where the Baron is buried in the backyard to make sure the Baron is dead.
Nandor checks the books and confirms the sire's real name, and figures he has to work it out before he tells the vampire community what happened and set them at ease. He summons the spirits of the greatest vampire journalists, and tells them what happened. Nandor accepts full responsibility for the escape, and a journalist asks if there's a plan to recover the Sire. They soon blame Nandor for dooming them all, and Nandor sends the spirits away and breaks into tears.
After recruiting Guillermo to do the digging, Laszlo and Colin have him dig up the Baron's gravesite. They search through the various buried bones, and Baron finally yells that he's there. They dig him up and he says that when they buried him, he was pretty much dead but not completely dead. He slowly regained his strength, subsisting on the blood-soaked dirt from the vampires' many victims.
The Baron recovered enough to cry out and beg them to dig him up. Colin heard him but thought it was somebody else in the neighborhood, and ignored them figuring it wasn't his problem. The Baron says that he's never felt better, and Guillermo is relieved that the Baron doesn't remember how Guillermo killed him by accident. Guillermo picks the Baron up, and worries that the Sire-dying theory might be correct.
The three take the Baron to Nandor, Nanda, and the Guide, and admits that things with the Council aren't going so well. The Baron wants them to find his missing eyes and ears. Everyone panics until Guillermo screeches, and says that as their bodyguard he should be in charge of capturing the Sire. Everyone in the group agrees, but the Baron is shocked they're going to put the fate of all vampire-kind into their familiar. Nandor says that Guillermo killed the Baron, and then quickly glosses over his mistake.
Guillermo tells the Guide to check with her intel sources, the Watchers, and Nadja should go with her. He gives orders to the vampire, and when they rebel he threatens to leave. They reconsider and Guillermo tells them to go.
The Guide goes to talk to her intel sources: two female gargoyle statues on a building. She takes Nadja with her, and tells the gargoyles that an ancient vampire is on the loose. They haven't seen the Sire, and gossip a lot. They finally agree to check with the other gargoyles, and hear from another gargoyle in Queens that the Sire is in Ozone Park. and the vampires fly there.
Guillermo heads to the Park with the group, and finds vampire piss and the Sire's tracks. They find a wrecked guard and the bones of a local security guard, and figure the Sire took the body into a nearby department store. Guillermo tries to get the others to go in with him and they refuse. Nandor figures when the sun comes up, the Sire will die4 and they'll all die and it's because of him. Guillermo slaps Nandor and tells him to help him help them.
The others go in and Guillermo has them split up to search the place for the Sire. he runs past Nadja and Laszlo, making his way across the shelves. They try to run him down, and Nadja figures that they need something to get his attention. Laszlo grabs a nearby harmonica and plays a lullaby, and the Sire approaches him and then throws him into the shelves, sniffs at Nadja, and speeds off.
Nadja goes over to Laszlo, who is okay but swallowed the harmonica.
Guillermo builds a trap out of soccer nets, while Nandor makes armor out of swimming pool inflatables. Their familiar figures they need bait, and Nandor and Colin pick him. The others arrive, the Baron driving a child's electric car. Nadja explains that the Sire moves like lightning, and the Sire approaches them and everyone hides except Guillermo, who prepares to fight with a hockey stick he's grabbed.
Nandor pulls Guillermo sand says that he's the one who should be bait, since he thinks he let the Sire loose. Nadja almost tells him it's not his fault but balks, and Nandor says that she's a good friend. Nandor confronts the Sire, who throws paint cans at him. The Baron says that the Sire keeps saying that it wants to be free, and explains that he speaks its language.
As the Sire grabs Nandor, Guillermo runs up with the Baron and tells him to speak. The Sire releases Nandor, and the Baron talks to it and then tells the others that the Sire thought they wanted to kill it. Now that the Sire has been feed and knows everything is safe, it's okay... and it will rip out their throats if they try to put it back in its cell.
Everyone becomes friends, and Nandor and Nadja provide the Sire with a home in Nutley, New Jersey along with the Baron and Guillermo's dog. The dog, a hellhound, can be itself by breathing fire on trees, while the vampires feed on Airbnb customers.
Nandor and the others tell the journalists that they got the Sire captured.
