No, it's not the early 2000s. Be that as it may, not one but two "Lord of the Rings" movies found themselves comfortably in the top 10 at the box office this past weekend. Indeed, thanks to a re-release of Peter Jackson's much-beloved trilogy based on J.R.R. Tolkien's epic fantasy saga by Fathom Events, both "The Fellowship of the Ring" and "The Two Towers" managed to sneak past "The Strangers: Chapter 1" to make it onto the charts.
"Fellowship of the Ring" found itself at number eight over the weekend with a $2.45 million haul, just behind "The Fall Guy" ($2.59 million). Landing at number nine was "The Two Towers," which pulled in $1.9 million. Warner Bros. and Fathom released both films on just over 1,500 screens. What's more, these were the 4K remastered, extended editions of the films, meaning they clocked in at nearly four hours each. Plus, they played just once each day across the country,...

It was the year 2003 when Peter Jackson released the end of his iconic trilogy with the release of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is one of the most anticipated adaptations of Tolkien’s franchise without a doubt. This anime adaptation of one of Tolkien’s best stories is currently scheduled for a December 13, 2024 release, but the lucky people at the 2024 Annecy International Animation Film Festival have had the chance to actually see the first footage of the upcoming movie. We don’t know how much of it will change before the official premiere later this year, but we assume that it won’t be much, which is why the exclusive information we have from Annecy can be considered correct. So, what do we know?
In short, we can confirm that The War of the Rohirrim can indeed be considered an anime based on the production crew and staff. We can also confirm that Peter Jackson is coming back as executive producer and that...

When the first trailer for Kraven the Hunter was released last summer, the response from fans wasn't particularly positive. Some embraced the over-the-top violence, but the majority of comic book readers recoiled as soon as a mutated Rhino showed up.
The Sony Pictures movie has been delayed multiple times, with it most recently moving from the end of August to December 13, later this year.
That means it will go head-to-head with The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim and, just a week later, faces stiff competition from Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Mufasa: The Lion King. On August 30, it had no real competitors.
Despite that, longtime Sony's Universe of Marvel Characters producer Matt Tolmach tells Collider the move isn't because Sony has given up on Kraven the Hunter; they believe it stands a chance of becoming a Christmastime hit.

There's been a lot of speculation surrounding who holds which rights to The Lord of the Rings franchise. Last year, New Line Cinema renewed its 25-year-old license with Middle-earth Enterprises, a company now owned by Embracer Group.
They immediately made plans to develop a new slate of movies, with the first of those recently confirmed to be Andy Serkis' The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.
Amazon, on the other hand, negotiated directly with the Tolkien Estate for rights the family still held outside of anything New Line, Mee or Embracer, explaining why The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is a "prequel" to the movies released on streaming rather than in theaters.
Interestingly, both New Line and Amazon can now use the same characters...just at different times in their lives. Talking to Deadline (via SFFGazette.com), movie producer and writer Philippa Boyens addressed any...

While everyone is talking about the next live-action Lord of the Rings film, the Hunt for Gollum, which will include Peter Jackson making a comeback to the franchise, WB Animation has been quietly working on its previously announced Lord of the Rings animated picture.
First revealed in June 2021 during 20th anniversary celebrations of the film franchise, WB shared the first details on The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.
Described as an anime movie, the project was subsequently confirmed to be a collaboration between WB Animation and Tokyo-based Solo Entertainment.
Earlier this week, WB Animation confirmed that The War of the Rohirrim would be showcased at next month's Annecy Film Festival and also released three hi-res versions of previously released conceptual images from the film. Specifically, the first footage from the film will be showcased (and hopefully) uploaded near the time of the panel.

Twenty years ago, Troy and its cast made its mark on epic filmmaking. Director Wolfgang Petersen’s take on Homer’s Iliad featured an ensemble cast led by Brad Pitt and created a wildly entertaining, if not entirely accurate, movie.
Working from a script by future Games of Thrones showrunner David Benioff, the Troy cast brought to life legends like Achilles, Helen of Troy, and Hector. Eric Bana, Orlando Bloom, and Diane Kruger were among those who joined Pitt in the impressive cast. While many of the actors haven’t made another film on Troy‘s scale, they continue to perform in blockbuster movies 20 years later.

Andy Serkis gained critical acclaim for his role as Gollum in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Serkis made a name for himself in motion capture soon after he did the role of Gollum. While the actor was praised for his incredible performance in the role, he was not admired by all.
Andy Serkis shared that there were many people including some older actors from the industry who mocked him when the first movie in the Lotr trilogy came out.
Andy Serkis as Gollum
The role of Gollum changed the world of CGI and motion capture forever. It led Serkis to more motion capture performances like King Kong and Caesar in The Planet of the Apes reboot trilogy. However, it is sad that the actor initially turned into a joke when Gollum first appeared in 2001’s The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.

The legacy of the great writer J.R.R. Tolkien lives on, but not all of its manifestations are equally successful. After mixed (mostly negative and neutral) reviews of The Rings of Power, it became known that several projects in Tolkien's universe are being planned, but the project that currently attracts the most attention and hopes of fans is full-length anime – The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.
What Will The Anime Be About?
The upcoming project tells the story of Helm Hammerhand and the defense of the fortress of Hornburg in Helm's Deep.
The events described above were precipitated by the murder of Freca, the ruler of the lands of the Dunlendings. At one of the councils, he asked for the hand of King Rohan's daughter for his son, to which Helm responded only with ridicule. Then Freca, enraged by the refusal, insulted the king and began to threaten him.

Sony’s Kraven the Hunter was supposed to be 2024’s second Spider-Man-adjacent film. However, the studio is trying to put as much space between it and Madam Web as possible. Kraven is just barely staying in the calendar year.
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that the live-action adaptation of the comic book villain, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, has been moved from August 30 to December 13. The Karate Kid previously held this date. Sony has since moved that reboot to May 30, 2025.

The move comes after the sixth and final season of Cobra Kai, the Netflix spinoff starring Machio as his original Karate Kid movie character Daniel Larusso, was delayed due to last year’s actors strike. Sony pushed the new Karate Kid to allow it to follow Cobra Kai‘s final season, with the summer date also seen as friendly for the all-ages audience its intended for. What is the best trilogy of all time? Fans might immediately jump to George Lucas' original "Star Wars" trilogy or maybe Christopher Nolan's more recent Dark Knight trilogy. The more prestige audiences might pull out "The Godfather" trilogy, even if the final chapter doesn't match up to the quality of the first two installments (especially since Francis Ford Coppola revisited them with a superior cut of the final chapter). The indie crowd may put forth Richard Linklater's "Before" trilogy with Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy's evolving love story. But honestly, there's really only one answer that makes sense.
Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" trilogy is the greatest motion picture trilogy of all time. An incredible feat of blockbuster filmmaking and a box office phenomenon, all three movies were shot back-to-back in one of the biggest risks ever taken by a Hollywood studio on a largely untested filmmaker.
