- The religious rehab center where Luka, the main character of EDEN HOUSE, has landed is led by a self-proclaimed priest named Antoni - a charismatic leader who speaks the word of God, wishing to convert lost souls who are addicted to drugs. Luka has been sent there by his deeply religious mother after she caught him smoking marijuana. She sees the religious program as the best way to both educate and convert her troubled son. But the "Eden House" of the film's title is not the name of the rehab center. It refers to the community of people living under its prison-like conditions. These "inmates" live under the rule of "Ora et Labora" ("Work and Prayer"), which is strictly reinforced by Antoni and his team of guards. Any act of insubordination is subject to widely unreasonable punishment. Luka soon realizes that to survive in this place, he will have to fight for his own life. When the one person he trusts is beaten to death, he decides to reach out to his mother. She doesn't pick up the phone and so he realizes that he will have to fend for himself - EDEN HOUSE is based on a true story. In Ukraine, more than 300 places like this today are not subject to state control or regulation.—Adelina Borets
