“M*A*S*H,” “I Love Lucy,” “Six Feet Under,” “Beetlejuice” and “The Cosby Show.” What do these classic TV shows or films have in common? They all had a deep impact on five of today’s top TV showrunners. We discuss that and more during our “Meet the Experts” group roundtable panel with 2022 Emmy contenders.
This “Meet the Experts” panel includes showrunners and producers Melissa Joan Hart (“Christmas in Tune”), Sarah Burgess (“Impeachment”), Justin Noble (“The Sex Lives of College Girls”), Dustin Lance Black (“Under the Banner of Heaven”) and Gloria Calderon Kellett (“With Love”). Watch our full group chat above and click on each name above to view each person’s individual interview.
“I was obsessed with ‘M*A*S*H’ growing up,” reveals Black. “And one day I hope I can write like that. Where you can take really dark, deep, challenging subjects and get people to laugh.

“This movie was developed for a while. We actually were going to shoot it during the Covid lockdown,” reveals Melissa Joan Hart, the executive producer of “Christmas in Tune” for Lifetime starring Reba McEntire. “We put it off because we wanted to be able to have big audiences and do it right. We didn’t rush it. In the meantime, we were able to get Reba to be interested in it and developed it more for her.” We talked to Hart as part of our “Meet the Experts” TV showrunners panel. Watch our exclusive video interview above.

Since the 1960s, Emmy voters have honored made-for-television films with the Best TV Movie award. Unlike the continuing program categories, this one is not bound to genre restrictions. This typically leads to diverse lineups of films, and it appears this year’s will be no different.
HBO is the most prolific network in the category’s history, having produced 22 winners from 76 nominations. The most recent of these victories came in 2020 for “Bad Education.” After losing with “Oslo” last year, they are back in the hunt again with the HBO Max films “The Fallout” and “The Survivor.”
Since the academy gave the 2021 prize to “Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square,” they may feel compelled to award “Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas,” “Christmas in Tune,” or “The Waltons: Homecoming” this time. The former is a continuation of NBC’s “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist,” while the latter is a remake of the 1971 holiday film that led to CBS’s “The Waltons.

Exclusive: Samantha Mathis and Norm Lewis and are set as series regulars opposite Matt Passmore and Floriana Lima in Blank Slate, NBC’s drama pilot from Dean Georgaris, John Fox, Davis Entertainment and Universal Television.
Created by Georgaris and Fox, written by Georgaris and to be directed by Richard Shepard, Blank Slate draws some parallels to Davis Entertainment’s long-running NBC series The Blacklist. In Blank Slate, Special Agent Alexander McCoy (Passmore) is a legend in law enforcement, the agent we all hope is out there, the agent we’d all like to be. The only issue is — he doesn’t actually exist. He’s a ghost, a phantom. So what happens when a man claiming to be Alexander McCoy walks through the door with all of his skills and knowledge but with an agenda nobody will see coming?
Mathis will play Dr. Sylvia Matthews, the team’s forensic psychologist.
