Jump that shark
lor_30 August 2021
The dramatic and even melodramatic story content for this Girlfriends series has been abandoned in this edition, part of the label's recent rush away from its original mandate toward merely producing sexy girl/girl scenes showing explict sex, period.

First half of the DVD concerns a pair of charlatans (and an unlikely one at that) of beautiful Black actress Cecilia Lion, current leader of the "big hair" revival. And label regular Serene Siren, offering a sort of New Age service. Clients Cadence Lux and Vina Sky come to them for a "Past Life Regression", sort of an update of that old saw associated with Bridey Murphy in the 1950s.

So we have a couple minutes of so-called "hypnotherapy" in which subject Cadence appears to channel a previous life in the 19th Century of a woman living in India. This largely verbal hook leads to Lion insisting she must complete what Lux did in the past, and handily stating that she's also a sex therapist she convinces the girl to have sex with her. Similarly, but illogically, assistant Siren takes Lux's pal Sky into the bedroom to hump her too.

So PsychoDrama becomes hypnotherapy, all leading to seduction of one's gullible customers. Whether Girlfriends Films' customers are equally gullible or merely fast-forwarding through the acting/dialog footage to get to the XXX meat is an open question.

All four vignettes present interracial sex, the unspoke raison d'etre for this particular feature, at odds with the labels history of only token employment for minority actresses over the past two decades.

Second half of the show concerns a pop music diva played by Candice Dare, a blonde actress known (a la Mandy Muse, Abella Danger or Jada Stevens) for her big butt. Casting works in that Dare vaguely resembles iconic Britney Spears.

Candice is upset at her career decline, and her agent Bunny Colby concocts a scheme to revivify that career by staging a contest for two lucky fans to win a meeting with Candice, in order to generate favorable publicity.

Ember Snow and busty Jenna Foxx are the lucky winners, and during a somewhat awkward scene (staged with Girlfriends' favorite set-up, a 4-woman composition in the frame chatting) Ember suggests that pretending to be a recruit to lesbianism will get all the tabloids excited and generate enough publicity to put Dare back in the spotlight.

Candice and Bunny like the idea, and soon Jenna is humping her idol, with photos to be leaked to the media. Colby meanwhile takes the opportunity to have sex with Ember. I always enjoy seeing voluptuous Bunny in XXX action, and suppose that similarly fans of each of these eight attractive actresses will possibly find that enough to excuse the corniness and stupidity of the "story set-ups" accompanying the four 45-minute long sex scenes. Since this pre-Covid-19 release, Girlfriends has switched over to delayed VOD releases (no DVD) of web scenes indicating all-sex content is the goal.
