Well, it looks nice...

Like the episode before it, director Mathias Herndl again mechanically walks us through the beats of the story. Feels perfunctory. Need Trachtenberg back toot-sweet. Looks nice.

This hurts my brain

Is this a faithful adaptation of the book ?! If it is, it's dumb af.

Anatagonist - I will kill her father if you don't come alone, Langdon

Protagonist Langdon - he will kill your father if I don't go alone Female character - I'm coming along and I will try to save my father even if it kills him

All these characters are supposed to be highly educated and rational. But they are dumber than the two-bit punks in a b-grade horror flick. I'm loosing brain cells with every episode.

Murmuration

I struggled with this episode. It just failed to arouse my interest.

The problem is working out that baddie by the second episode.

So you have Freemasons. Peter Solomon is stuck in his nightmare state. You have a machine that tries to decode a long hidden puzzle in Robert's mind.

There is an unstoppable assassin. It is all spinning plates until the show goes for the home run.

In short The Lost Symbol is a 10 episode series with content to fill 4 episodes.

Identikit 'Murkan "thriller" with the obligatory Feds
seymour_sp28 October 2021
The Freemason element almost feels like a McGuffin to allow yet another bunch of bland American actors to say lots of hackneyed American things, run around speaking in urgent half-whispers, and generally take themselves far too seriously. Heavy on the CIA involvement, light on the symbology - ugh. I'm giving up half way through Episode 3.

Pity. I enjoyed the films, silly though they were, and I had high hopes for the excellent Eddie Izzard's involvement - but, surprise surprise, in this cookie-cutter drama he's woefully underemployed.

I'd like to think that it gets less formulaic and more interesting, but I for one won't be hanging around to find out.

Warning: Spoilers
...by bringing out random brainscan tech that the writer clearly used to escape a tough story flaw.
