- "Dad's visit" is the story of a son's painful coming to terms with his past. Rasapandi, an immigrant from India, leads a successful suburban life with his wife (who is white) in the US.
The story happens on a cold winter morning. Rasapandi wakes up from a bad dream in cold sweat. He feels an unusual sense of foreboding and disorientation. He walks out to get his newspaper and meets someone he has not met in a long time. His dad. The dad who lives in India, and whom Rasapandi has not seen in 10 years after an estrangement.
He is shocked and surprised at the unexpected manner of his arrival. Thus starts a meeting between the dad and son that takes them through the labyrinth of their joys and regrets from the past. Emotions wash away the errors of each other's past and they embrace a long awaited reconciliation. Rasapandi undergoes near catharsis from his deep sense of guilt of shunning his dad's love. The film ends with Rasapandi unexpectedly experiencing the deep loss of a loved one. Did the dad, actually visit him?
