Upright was an absolute surprise and an absolute treasure after the first season. A delightful mix of comedy and misadventure and at least 6 of the 8 episodes were really good.

But the story wrapped up nicely with a bow and I don't know what else was left to tell. That became instantly clear when the new season started with a massive time jump and Lucky being at least somewhat successful. That did not really make any sense as that's not what people want to see from Lucky. We want him down on his luck.

But they didn't waste much time in letting us know they will back on the road soon. That's what people want and we'll see how that goes.

An unnecessary opening, entirely different to that of the show's prior success. I'm not sure why it's here, this is not Lucky at all. Perhaps better put, this isn't why we like him at least. It's all forced mania, trying to be funny, filled with annoying PC garbage and nothing landing. That's before Meg arrives late in the episode, they chat and then set off again on another journey. This time trading the desert for Far North Queensland. Milly Alcock off the back of her big role in "House of the Dragon." I'm sure it will be like before for a while at least, so long as the chemistry between the two remains.

I did not think Upright was good enough for a second series. I did not think that another series was even required.

Here it is, this time events have moved on four years.

Lucky Flynn (Tim Minchin) is a minor celebrity. He is gigging as a musician, he has an actress girlfriend. He is still prone to fly off the handle.

A radio interview does not go well, he attacks a paparazzi who is bothering him.

In comes Meg Adams (Milly Alcock) after four years with a proposition.

She wants Lucky to take her to North Queensland to find her mother.

A chaotic beginning only took shape when Meg turns up. It just means there is more chemistry between Lucky and Meg than he has with his girlfriend.
