The Winner!
boblipton12 November 2023
Several onlookers in holiday garb watch a race among several donkeys. Eventually the winner is brought forth.

It's a typically nicely planned Lumiere actuality, with the good composition and lines of movement that their better works showed: here the composition is defined not only by the frame, but by a rail past which the donkeys race. The movement, naturally, is that of the racing animals, and later the onlookers walking around the track. "Oui, mon enfant" I can imagine them saying in the remnants of the French I studied half a century ago, "J'etais la!" Well, it wasn't my favorite subject, and I seem to have had little talent for it.
