A few of the American students were from my former high school, where I was librarian and Assistant Principal. They commuted every day from Brooklyn to Manhattan and struggled with many life obstacles in order to succeed. This video is an accurate depiction of their dedication and aspirations. Now, as a teacher in East New York, Brooklyn, at a school aptly named, Aspirations High, I can assure viewers that there are many, many more kids like these... good kids, promising kids, kids where you'd least expect to find them. Everyone should watch this! Too often, we tend to dismiss the commonplace, the everyday people in our world without considering how, together, they can make a difference. I see this with my own students and marvel at what can become of the world if the best opportunities are there for them to grasp. The key is making sure that the word gets out that they exist, and that they matter. Ms. Tarr succeeds in sending this message... not just from Brooklyn, but from across the world. It rings true. Well done. EDF Aspirations DPHS
