This short film sees a single mother struggling to make a connection to her toddler daughter. The child seems so different and this almost frightens the mother but, as the short progresses, she tries to find love and acceptance for her daughter regardless of these things.
As a narrative this film is a good one and an interesting idea to take the issue over motherhood and fear of the new and unknown creature in the house and make it very specific as if the daughter was a whole different creature or species. It does this within animation that is beautifully drawn with detail and movement but also a good understand of what makes a good shot – several of the images are very memorable in their framing and also their detail. All of these things make the film interesting but I did have an issue with the narrative as an idea because for a lot of the short the "differences" are presented too harshly. So while I understood the point that was being made, the animation of the child made it look a little, well, backward. Additionally the actions are initially so odd that it is hard to see beyond them.
Overall it does work even with these weaknesses (as I saw them) and the animation and general tone is well done.
