When Vicente tells Clara the story of the couple that appears in the photographs of the old album, he calls them the Cavalcanti's. Taking into account that Cavalcanti is the surname of one of the pioneers of Brazilian cinema (Alberto Cavalcanti, 1897-1982), the anecdote can be considered as a small tribute to him.
In Vicente's first visit to Kaufmann Studios, there's a white recorder with colored buttons on a shelf. This object may be perceived as a nod to Mundo da Lua (1990), a TV series focused on a boy dreaming alternative lives on a daily basis, recording everything with a white device with colored buttons - Vicente's job is essentially what that boy used to do.
