Exclusive: So long for now to Jodie, an animated film-cum-Daria spinoff that was set to feature Tracee Ellis Ross voicing the main character.

In 2020, Comedy Central picked up the adult animated show from creator and head writer Grace Edwards and Mtve Studios with hopes to pair it with South Park.
Two years later, it morphed into a movie.

She reteams with the latter’s director, Yorgos Lanthimos, for Searchlight Pictures’ “Poor Things.” The film, which is out in US theaters on Dec. 8, follows Stone as Bella Baxter — a woman brought back to life by a scientist (Willem Dafoe) and subsequently goes on a journey of self-discovery, meeting a variety of people along the way including a lawyer (Mark Ruffalo) and a potential suitor (Ramy Youssef).
Stone’s performance is remarkable here, as many critics have noted.

The Oscar front-runner for Best Picture, “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” got a massive boost on nominations morning when it reaped a leading 11 bids. Among those many citations was one for lead actress contender Michelle Yeoh, her first ever after working in the business for decades. Tracee Ellis Ross is busier than ever despite closing the chapter on “Black-ish.” The actor, producer, entrepreneur and CEO’s focus has turned toward a list of projects including the Hulu/ OWN/ Onyx Collective docuseries “Hair Tales” (which she’s producing through her production company Joy Mill Entertainment), voicing the lead character in MTV’s animated Daria-spinoff movie “Jodie” and launching the podcast “I Am America.” In addition, she’s celebrating the three-year anniversary of her hair care company Pattern Beauty.
During her keynote conversation at Variety’s Entertainment and Technology Summit presented by City National Bank, Ross explained how she keeps all these different pursuits in “harmony.”
“I don’t strive for balance because it’s impossible, but a sense of harmony,” Ellis Ross told Variety senior entertainment reporter Angelique Jackson. “One of the biggest things that I do is do my best to walk consciously from A to B.

At long last, MTV’s ’90s cult hit “Daria” is coming back to the small screen. The previously announced spinoff “Jodie,” with Emmy-winning actor and icon Tracee Ellis Ross voicing the title role of Daria’s Lawndale High classmate Jodie Landon, has landed at Comedy Central. The series comes from creator and head writer Grace Edwards, who’s served as writer/co-producer on HBO’s “Insecure,” with additional credits on multiple seasons on the Emmy-nominated comedy “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” and “Inside Amy Schumer.”
Ellis Ross will executive produce the series as well as voicing the main character, Jodie, the academic star of Lawndale High who often struggled to make her voice heard amid a very white suburban school — but always found in Daria Morgendorffer a wise confidante. “Jodie” will pick up with the title character graduating from college and entering a complicated world as an adult.
