Nice Interview with Writers of Fulci's Zombie
Deadtime Stories (2011)
*** (out of 4)
Nice interview with ZOMBIE co-writers Elisa Briganti and Dardano Sacchetti, which can be found on Blue Underground's special edition of the Lucio Fulci classic. Within the 14-minutes it's very clear that both writers were extremely happy with the work of Fulci and what he managed to get on screen with very little money. Sacchetti gets the majority of the running time as he discusses how he came to write the screenplay, the original idea of mixing zombies with the Western genre and why Fulci was perfect for the directing duties. Both writers really rave about Fulci and how he could take something small on the page and turn it into something powerful. There's an interesting aspect about the splinter/eye scene where Fulci knew right away the only lens to use to perfectly capture the effect. There's also some talk about how the movie really broke down all sorts of walls in Italian cinema and why it really started the entire horror genre and turned it into something very hot and valuable.
